63. Sir Edmund Andros to Secretary Sir John Trenchard. Acting upon letters from the President and Council and Sir Thomas Lawrence, Secretary, I arrived here on 29 April for the provincial court, which was to sit on 1 May. I hope all will continue well until the arrival of the royal commands and a governor. Until then I shall continue to assist our neighbours against the Indians and common enemy, for which purpose 250l. have been sent to New York from this province and 500l. from Virginia. For the latter sum I pray their Majesties' favour out of the quit rent, the other revenue being insufficient for it. On the representations of New York the auditor ordered an advance, as in like cases; for New York is the nearest frontier attacked at this time. All very well in the these parts. Signed Andros. 1 p. Endorsed: Sept. 14 1694. [C.O. 5/718 ff.99–100]
