July 1666

July 6. Deposition sworn before Clement Spelman, Cursitor Baron, by Richard King of Preston, Lancashire, after reciting the order of the Committee for Compounding of 30 Jan., 1649–50, calendared in Cal. Comm. Comp., p. 168, that he was employed to pay the officers and soldiers, who had served within the said county, their shares of the arrears and revenue of sequestration, and that to the best of his remembrance every one of them that received any pay out of the said moneys observed the rules of the said order. [On parchment. S.P. Dom., Car. II., Case G.]
July 18.
The Milkmaid in the river Taine (Tay) in Scotland.
Thomas Stollord, master, to the Navy Commissioners. Having a conveniency of sending by the post, which seldom falls from hence. I give an account of my proceedings. We with the Franikin and two convoys got into this river, where we are to load, the 16th. We lie very near where the masts lie, which are close by the water side, and are ready to take them in. I will use my utmost endeavours. All our business lies on Master Pett's coming or sending and then I expect to make haste, but I doubt he is taken sick in his journey, having received letters from him two days before we came out of Yarmouth Roads that he would go with us by sea, being then but eighteen miles from Yarmouth, so we stayed a day and a night for him. He mentioned he had been ill, otherwise he would have been with us before. I hope he will suddenly be with us. [S.P. Supplementary 136, No. 423.]
