1. Kenelme Digby to Sir Wm. Cecill. In behalf of John Flower, Sheriff of Rutland, to be discharged of the Privy Seal for the loan of 50l., addressed to him.

2. Sir John Spenser and Thos. Lee to same. Measures taken by them for letting to the best advantage the manor of Hodnell, co. Warwick, part of the estate of Tho. Wilkes, deceased. Inclosing,

June 7. 4. Thomas Stanhope to the Council. Recommends Mr. Edwd. Skipworth, of Nottingham, to be discharged of the Privy Seal for the loan of 50l.

5. Sir Henry Percy to Sir Wm. Cecill. Desires to have his counsel as to the mode of proceeding with his brother, who he hears is very penitent, and his wife is in great distress. Hopes certain of his lands will not be granted away. Incloses,
5. i. Sir Henry Percy to his brother the Earl of Northumberland. Reproaches him with his proceedings in the late rebellion. Urges him to seek the Queen's mercy, and to think on the misery and desolation he has occasioned.

Bruges.
6. Harry Lord Morley to the Queen. Beseeches her not to entertain any doubt of his loyalty on account of his leaving the kingdom. He knows the malice of the Lord Keeper and Mr. Secretary against him. Solicits permission for his wife and children to join him.

7. Same to his wife Lady Morley. Has arrived in safety at Bruges. Has written a humble letter to the Queen, and solicited that she will allow her and his children to come over to him.
June 8. 8. Sir William Sneyde to the Council. Forwards a list of such persons in Staffordshire who have or have not paid the contributions required by letters of Privy Seal.
June 9. 9. Same to same. Has delivered the Privy Seal for loan of 50l. to John Bowes, who prays to be exempt therefrom.

10. Edward Stanhope to Cecill. Richd. Whitmore, who has attended the Council to shew his inability to contribute, desires to know when his further attendance may be required.

11. Wm. Chaderton to same. Requests that some effectual means may be taken for a reformation of the disorders in the University of Cambridge, encouraged by the evil doctrines and conduct of Mr. Cartwright, Mr. Chapman, and Mr. Some.

12. Edward Clere to the Council. Is of opinion Mr. Wheteley may well be charged with the whole or part of the loan assessed on him by Privy Seal.

June 15. 16. Substance of the speech of the Lord Keeper in the Star Chamber upon the subject of some unfounded reports that had been circulated as to an inquisitorial power being exercised in matters of religion.

June 16. 18. Alexander Nowell, Dean of St. Paul's, to Sir Wm. Cecill. The Latin catechism, which he wrote about seven years since, and dedicated to him, is now at length printed, by appointment of the Archbishops of Canterbury and York.
June 18. 19. Duke of Norfolk to the Queen. Had hoped that by her merciful goodness he might have been allowed to remain at his own house on account of his health. Beseeches her to remember what he declared in December last, that he never purposed to deal any further in the matter of the Queen of Scots.
June [20]. 20. Account of the Customs and Subsidies of London, Sandwich, and Chichester, for the eleven years of the Queen's reign; with estimates of amount of fine (5,000l.) to be paid by Mr. Tho. Smythe on the new rent.
June 20. 21. Articles for drawing a lease to pass from the Queen to Thomas Smythe of the customs and subsidies in the ports of London, Sandwich, and Chichester, wines only excepted.

June 29. 27. The Vice-Chancellor (John Meye) and Heads of Houses in Cambridge, to Cecill. Favour shewn to Mr. Freake in his preferment: in the P.S. complain of the conduct and doctrines of Mr. Cartwright.
June 29. 28. Summary of the whole amount raised and expended for the equipment of soldiers, furniture of armour, weapons, &c., within the County of Essex.
June 29. 29. Account of sums of money received for the Queen's use by the collectors of loans on Privy Seals in various counties of the realm.
June. 30. Petition of the inhabitants of Cirencester, Gloucestershire, to the Council. Pray to be relieved from the tyranny of certain mischievous Papists.

June. 32. Dr. Martin a Rhurnbeck, Chief Physician to the Duke of Norfolk, to same. Is in attendance on the Duke, whose health is greatly disordered. He is likely to fall into a dropsy, &c.
June ? 33. Tho. Aldrich, Alan Par, and fourteen others of Cambridge, to same. Have taken no part with Mr. Cartwright relative to the question of apparel; but have conducted themselves with due moderation and caution. Lat.
