Intelligence as to the state of affairs between the rival parties in France, the King and Queen, the Admiral, the Cardinal of Guise, &c. On 29th December the Pope held a congregation. Signor Marc Antonio Colonna has the galleys which belonged to the late Count Frederic Borromei, the Pope's nephew. Notice of the legatine offices assigned to certain cardinals.—Rome, 1 Jan. 1564.

1. All English ships and goods here are embargoed, and all Englishmen entering St. Sebastian may not leave it upon pain of death. Many of the company of the "Mary Holloway" are ready to perish for hunger. They have sent two Englishmen to represent their case to the Court, in which they ask Challoner's aid.—St. Sebastian, 10 Jan. 1563. Signed.
2. P.S.—Details the losses which he sustained at Orio, between Bilboa and St. Sebastian.

1. In reply to his offer to assist her in preferring her in marriage to some foreign prince, she states that although she is not weary of her single life, yet, as she is the last issue that her father left, this and other reasons induce her to alter this course of life. In consideration of the leave given her by her subjects to make her own choice, she is bound to make such a choice as shall be for their benefit.
2. Appended are notes on the privileges which an alien has under any other prince or state, and of the resources of the Hospital of St. John in various countries.
