Letters patent by him as "nepos" of the late John Bertoun his grandfather, appointing John Cokburne captain, and Alexander Hering master, of the Michael, to revenge the injuries done to his said grandfather by the fleets of the Portuguese. Leith. Signed: Jhon a Bartoun of Cragis. Witnesses: John McNeill, John Ker, and Archibald Fraser.
