Miscellaneous, 1537

1537. June. Madrid. Bib. Nat. 470. Report of the reception of the new English Ambassadors by the Emperor at Valladolid.
On Friday, the 22nd June, the English ambassadors were introduced to the Emperor by Don Pedro de la Cueva, the Cardinal of Toledo being present. The Emperor was informed by order of the King of England that four noblemen of the north (of England) had been beheaded as rebels, namely Lords Darcy and Hussey, Lord Giles (Pole), Constable and Bigod; and that the Queen was pregnant (which, however, the Emperor already knew).
At the bull fight Don Luis de Avila y Zuñiga was caught by one of the bulls and badly gored, but was saved by a soldier. The Emperor himself dealt a skilful lance-thrust to the same bull. The Emperor left Valladolid on the 10th July.
