207. Advices from London. The absence of letters from England this week leaves one impatient to know the result of the negotiations with the king, parliament looking for many advantages from the disposition on the royal side. A report is current of a reinforcement of Irish frigates for the Prince of Wales' squadron, which might serve to enable him to carry out some of the enterprises he contemplates. Although these are stated to be considerable nothing has yet been announced about their nature. According to the latest news he was in the Dutch ports, not without some fear of being molested, but feeling safe under the protection of the Dutch if he is attacked in their ports. The queen of England is in the Louvre still, slightly indisposed, but it is expected she will soon be better. [Italian.] |

209. Michiel Morosini, Venetian Ambassador in France,
to the Doge and Senate. I am sending money to Castelli, who is sick in London, so that he may return when he is better. There is no sign that the fourth ship promised can leave for a long time. I regret that I have no means of satisfying M. della Valetta, who presses me every day for the half pay. I enclose the sheet of London. Paris, the 10th of November, 1648. [Italian.] |

210. Advices from London. The House of Commons have decided to keep a naval force this winter also, to defend the trade of English merchants from the pirates of Ireland ; and for its maintenance they have ordered 50,000l. to be raised from the goods of numerous delinquents in Wales. They have also directed that 100,000l. due to the masters of several ships shall be promptly paid, to avoid the confusion and disorder which seem to reign in the very fleet of the Earl of Warwick, which is off Goere in Holland, in order to attract the king's ships which for lack of everything, but especially of money, have quitted the service. 212. Advices from London. As the king of England would not agree to some of the proposals made by parliament they have decided to prolong the conference for 8 days, the original 40 having expired. They are hopeful of success because of the king's desire for an adjustment, as although he has firmly resisted some of the terms, it was only to prevent the parliamentarians from altering and increasing their demands. News has come that Major Gen. Mirton has captured Anglesea castle and that Lieutenant Gen. Cronuell has demolished that of Cokermut. Prince Rupert has set out for Holland to command the fleet of the Prince of Wales, who is ill of small pox, and the Duke of York as well, according to report. [Italian.] |

214. Advices from London, of the 18th November, 1648. Sir Peter Killigrew having reported the king's reply, the Commons have declared themselves far from satisfied, and so Killigrew has gone back hurriedly to tell his Majesty. The issue of the negotiations, one way or the other should be known soon. Colonel Reineborugh who was besieging Pontefract for parliament, has been stabbed in many places by one who pretended he had letters to give him from General Cronuell. (fn. 1) Parliament learning that many are conspiring against their lives, has decided to bring from the army a regiment of horse and one of foot to guard it, but this has not yet been done.
