Aug. 6. Original Despatch, Venetian Archives. 298. Marco Venier, Venetian Ambassador in Constantinople, to the Doge and Senate.
The French Ambassador has offered me, and I have not refused, a sequestration order against the goods of Paul Mariani in Egypt, where he is French Consul, to the amount of six thousand sequins, which he owes your Serenity,

Aug. 13. Original Despatch, Venetian Archives. 299. Francesco Vendramin, Venetian Ambassador in Spain, to the Doge and Senate.
There is confirmation of the destruction of the Portuguese ship by the English; and the ministers of the Treasury calculate his Majesty's loss at seven hundred thousand ducats.

Aug. 17. Original Despatch, Venetian Archives. 300. Giovanni Mocenigo, Venetian Ambassador in France, to the Doge and Senate.
The Queen of England has recently urged the King to summons the Prince of Condi to Court, declaring that this would be a guarantee for the personal safety of the King, and that the plots against his house would cease. His Majesty replied in very gracious terms, but pointed out that her Majesty was not inclined to follow a similar course in her own case, for she still refused to name her successor.

The English are sending eighteen ships with five thousand infantry into Brittany.
