December 3. 158. Same for the execution of warrants from the Bishop of Sarum, Chancellor of the Garter, to Lord Lynn, for the provision of jewels as follows, viz.: For the Bishop of Sarum, said Chancellor, for his badge or jewel a Rose of gold enamelled red within a Garter, and St. George's cross on the reverse and one gold chain, at which said jewel is to be appendant, according to the usual form and weight as for any other Chancellor of the said Order.
And for the Bishop of Winchester, Prelate of the said Order, a jewel of gold enamelled with the figure of St. George on horseback killing the dragon, and encompassed with the Garter, and over it an episcopal mitre, to be worn on a gold chain or purple ribbon, all of weight, &c. as was made for the late Bishop of Winchester, Prelate of said Order. Mr. Keene having by letter from the Escurial, dated November 26, 1734, advised the Duke of Newcastle of 500l. to be paid to Mr. John Wace, value in account, to reimburse expenses for His Majesty's particular services, order for a sign manual for same with fees.
Order for the issue to the Treasurer of the Navy of 20,000l. for wages to ships as by his memorial of the 2nd instant.
The Attorney General's opinion, read, on the title of the trustees of Wm. Strode to the Lambhay, near the citadel of Plymouth. Agreed that 6,784l. appropriated for the purchase of those lands be paid on the trustees conveying same to the use of the Crown.

December 5. 160. Warrant under the royal sign manual to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland for instructions to the Receiver General and Paymaster of His Majesty's revenues there to remit to the Paymaster General of the Forces in England 44,700l. 7s. 6d. due to the regiments of Col. Cope, the Earl of Effingham, Cols. Hamilton, Howard, Lanoe, Cornwallis, Hargrave, and Paget, from the day of their embarkations respectively, to 1734, October 24, and that of the Earl of Rothes from 1733, December 25, to 1734, December 25.

December 5. 161. Royal sign manual to the Clerk of the Signet attending, to prepare a bill to pass the Privy Seal authorising the Treasury, in accordance with the clause for appropriating supplies, 1734, in the Act of last session, to make payment to Henry Pelham, Paymaster General of the Forces, of sums not exceeding 71,175l. by way of imprest and upon account for defraying the expenses of the augmentation of the forces.

December 9. 162. J. Scrope to the Auditors of Imprests. Mr. W. Dawson, formerly clerk in the office for the classis lottery, 1711, has made application to the Treasury for their directions concerning the books and tickets belonging to said lottery, which he alleges to have been many years in his custody and for defraying the expense occasioned thereby. Their Lordships direct you to make out schedules or inventories in triplicate of all such books of accounts or other effects now in his possession as may be for the public service, and to receive such effects and preserve them for the public service in the record rooms belonging to your office at the Exchequer at Westminster, and, further, to consider of some remuneration for Dawson. Order for the issue to the Treasurer of the Ordnance of 20,000l. out of supplies, 1734, towards answering the services mentioned in the letter from the Board of Ordnance of the 12th ult.
The Commissioners of Customs and of Excise to be written to for an account of drawbacks or other allowances authorised by Parliament defrayed out of revenues under their management during the past year.
The petition of the brass manufacturers for putting the duty on brass battery and metal prepared for battery, on the same foot, the brass now paying 30s. and the metal 20s. per cwt, read and referred to the Customs Commissioners.
Same of the administratrix of John Manby, late receiver of Lincoln, for certain surpluses on his accounts, referred to the Taxes Commissioners.
Same of George Osborne to succeed Nathaniel Thorne as receiver of land tax and house duties, Devon, referred to same.
Same of the almsmen of St. Peter's, Westminster, referred to the Board of Works.
Order for the issue to the Treasurer of the Chamber of 1,000l. for the messengers for their foreign journeys, as by Duke of Newcastle's letter of the 3rd instant.

December 11. 164. J. Scrope to the Governor of the Bank of England. The Lord Chancellor has applied to the Treasury for 19,000l. of the Chancery money to be lent on land tax, 1734, at 3½ per cent. Desires to know if the bank has any objection thereto.

December 11. 165. The Duke of Dorset to the Treasury, dated Whitehall, conveying His Majesty's pleasure for an additional pension of 200l. per annum to Richard Lord Altham on the Irish establishment and desiring preparation of the proper instrument for royal signature for same. 1 page.

December 12. 166. Royal sign manual directed to Henry Pelham, Paymaster General of the Forces, and countersigned by the Treasury, for the payment to the King of Denmark, pursuant to the Privy Seal of 1734, December 11, of 39,937l. 10s. for the purposes following, viz.:—“25,575l. to answer the value of 115,000 crowns, being a moiety of 230,000 crowns payable by a treaty between us and our said good brother, dated the 19–30th September 1734, for levy money for a body of 6,000 Danish troops, whereof 1,000 horse at the rate of 80 crowns each, and 5,000 foot, at the rate of 30 crowns each, at 4s. 6d. each crown,” and 14,062l. 10s. “to answer the value of 62,500 crowns for a quarter of 250,000 crowns bank money of Hamburgh payable to our said good brother for an annual subsidy pursuant to the said treaty, which quarter becomes due the 19–30th December 1734, at 4s. 6d. each crown.” [King's Warrant Book XXXI. p. 403.]
December 16. 167. J. Scrope to Mr. Thurston forwarding the reply of Horo Townshend, Governor of the Bank of England, to the Lord Chancellor's desire that 19,000l. of the Chancery money may be lent on the land tax, 1734, at 3½ per cent. The bank cannot comply with said request, as being greatly prejudicial to its interests. [Letter Book XIX. p. 357]

Order for a warrant for the King's signature for 1,500l. to Sir John Norris, commander in chief of the fleet, for his ordinary charges last summer.
Order for 50l. to Walter West, assistant to the Receiver General of the Customs for services in that office during the late vacancy.
“The savings on the Irish establishment by the removal of the eight regiments from that kingdom from the 25th October last to the 25th December instant are to be applied as levy money for raising one sergeant, one corporal, one drummer and 26 men to each of the companies of the 11 regiments of foot now remaining in that kingdom. So prepare a warrant for that purpose according to His Majesty's pleasure signified by the Lord Lieutenant in his letter, dated the 17th instant.”
Peter Buck to be customer at Chichester, loco John Miller, deceased, at the recommendation of the Duke of Richmond.
“My Lords settle the King's bounty list for the year 1734, and the same, amounting to 1,140l. is ordered to be paid by Mr. Lowther, out of the King's money in his hands.”

December 17. 169. The Duke of Dorset to the Treasury, dated Whitehall. The King has ordered the removal of the foot regiments under the Earl of Effingham, Colonels John Hope, Thos. Paget, Thos. Howard, Wm. Hargrave, Stephen Cornwallis, Archibald Hamilton, and Charles Lanoe from the Irish establishment to that of Great Britain, as from October 25 last, and the addition to the several companies of foot regiments now remaining in Ireland under the Earl of Orkney, Brig. Gen. James Dormer, Col. Charles Otway, Brig. Gen. Sir James Wood, Major Gen. Andrew Bisset, Brig. Gen. John Moyle, Colonels Robert Murray and Thos. Wentworth, Maj. Generals Rich. Sutton and Robert Dalzell, and the regiment lately commanded by Maj. Gen. Nicholas Price, deceased, of one sergeant, corporal, drummer and 26 privates to each company, to be raised and paid for from the savings on the Irish establishment by the removal of the said eight regiments, the said savings from October 25 to December 25 to be issued as levy money for the above, and thenceforward as pay in the usual way. Desires the Treasury to order the proper instrument to be prepared according for royal signature. 2½ pages.

December 19. 171. Report, in duplicate, viz. (1) in full form, and (2) in extract, from the Commissioners of Customs to the Treasury, concerning the accounts of the 4½ per cent, duty in Barbados and the Leeward Islands. Forward (a.) and (b.) representing the necessity of obtaining a Privy Seal for supplying the defects in the said accounts. Have ordered such vouchers as remain in the offices here to be delivered to the Comptroller General, and are of opinion he should exhibit said accounts in the most perfect manner he can to 1721, Christmas, to the Auditors of Imprests, and from that time to the Auditor of the Plantations, pursuant to the Treasury warrant of 1721, October 20; further, that the particulars of such articles as cannot be passed without a Privy Seal or other authority should be stated with a view to being laid before the Treasury. 2 and 1 pages.

The report of the Customs Commissioners of the 17th ult. read, on Mons. Hop's memorial concerning sugars returned from Holland and seized. Said Commissioners to explain the diminution in the weight of the cargo between 1731 and 1734.
Philip Chapman's petition to be receiver of taxes for co. Huntingdon, loco Wm. Dowse, referred to the Agents for Taxes.
The report of the Excise Commissioners, of the 4th instant, on Miles Troughton's petition read. Their Lordships adhere to said report, viz. not to pay duty on rum shipped coastwise and wrecked at sea.
Robert Green to be boatman at Newcastle, loco Wright, resigned, at the recommendation of Colonel Geo. Liddel.
