Treasury warrant to the Excise Commissioners. To discharge the widow and sureties of Joseph Marter, late collector of Excise for Reading collection, of 110l. for a dishonoured bill, drawn by Thomas Read on Mary Tull, and taken by said Marter for purposes of remitting; he having for several years sent said Read's bills: and to set same in super on Thomas Read and Mary Tull.

Aug. 1 Report to the Treasury from the Barons of the Exchequer. Scotland. On the petition of William Campbell, of Lochdochart, for a grant of mines on his lands. Advise the grant, tho' there is no concurrence of a Master of Metals as required by the Act of 1592, said office being long disused.

Aug. 11 Treasury order for the execution of a Lord Chamberlain's warrant to the Duke of Montagu. For the provision of liveries (velvet coat trimmed as usual) for the trumpeters and drummers of His Majesty's Royal regiment of Horse; to an estimate of 825l. Lord Chamberlain's Warrant Book II. p. 142.
Aug. 15 Report to the Treasury from Sir Dudley Ryder Attorney General. On the memorial of the Duke of Grafton, Lord Chamberlain, concerning the action brought against him by the Earl of Halifax, as housekeeper of Hampton Court Palace, for his refusing to swear in an underhousekeeper of Hampton Court Palace, said Duke not thinking himself at liberty so to do, as apprehending said office to be in the Crown. 2 pages.
