June 2. The memorial of the 30th ult. from the Excise Commissioners, read and entered, proposing to allow 80l. (over and above the salary of 2s. in the £) to Edward Wrottesley and Edward Cornwall, late Sub-Commissioners of Excise for co. Hereford for their extraordinaries on their final accompts to Sept. 29 last. Ordered: allowed of. [Ibid. XII. pp. 11–12.]
June 8. The memorial of the 2nd inst. from same, read and entered, proposing similarly to allow 555l. 12s. 8d. (over and above the usual salary of 2s. in the £) to Thomas Egerton, Thomas Ashton, James Smith and John Tatlock, sometime Sub-Commissioners of Excise for Cheshire and Lancashire, towards their extras in their account to 1662, March 25. June 11. The memorial of the 2nd inst. from the Excise Commissioners, read and entered, proposing to accept 200l. from Robert Squibb, one of the late Sub-Commissioners of Excise for co. Cornwall, for the arrears of 876l. 19s. 4d. standing out on said county and in settlement further of the demand for extraordinaries from said Sub-Commissioners on their [final] account. Petition from William Howard (on reference from the King of date 1662, March 28) one of the sureties of Nicholas Bond, who farmed the Excise of timber for a year ended 1657, March 25, at 4,700l. rent, and who, being charged with an arrear of 1,112l. 7s. 6d., is now beyond sea and his sureties accordingly troubled therefor. The memorial of the 18th Feb. last from the Excise Commissioners, read and entered, proposing to allow 200l. to Edmond Peirce and Hugh Piggott, late Sub-Commissioners of Excise for co. Stafford, towards their extraordinaries in their final account to Sept. 29 last. With Treasurer Southampton's minute. "I allow the petitioners [towards their total extraordinaries] of 336l. 14s. 11d. the sum of 236l. 14s. 11d." [Ibid. pp. 18–19.]

Robert Sandys, George Gill and, John Place, late Sub-Commissioners of Excise for York, Hull and the East and North Ridings of Yorkshire, towards their extraordinaries on their account for one quarter ended 1661, March 25, and an additional 30l. to Col. The memorial of the 18th ult. from the Excise Commissioners, read and entered, proposing to allow 350l. to Scroope Tirwhitt, Israell Jackson, Henry Harrington and Edmond Ogar, late Sub-Commissioners of Excise for co. June 13. The memorial of the 27th ult. from same, read and entered, proposing to accept 291l. from Dr. John Windsor and Capt. Roger Clark, late Sub-Commissioners of Excise for co. Surrey, for the arrears of 582l. 1s. 6d. standing out on the Excise of said county between 1660, Dec. 25, and 1662, November 8: and further to allow to said Sub-Commissioners 574l. towards their extraodinaries in their account from 1661, March 25 to 1662, Dec. 25. June 17. The memorial of this day's date from same, read and entered, for payment of the salary bill, entered in detail, of the Excise Office, London, for the 1663, June 24, quarter. (Total 915l. 0s. 0d.) Ordered: Allowed of. [Ibid. pp. 21–2.]
June 18. The memorial of the 15th inst. from same, read and entered, concerning the farm of the Excise of the city and county of Bristol, which was let to John Seymour and William George for three years from 1662, Sept. 29, at 3,400l. per an., which the said farmers intend to surrender at June 24 next: and proposing to grant afresh the remainder of said farm from that date to said John Seymour (and William George), together with George Raleigh and Mathew Coppinger at the aforesaid rent. June 27. The memorial of April 30 last from same, read and entered, proposing to allow 200l. (over and above the usual salary of 2s. in the £) to Robert Squibb, Samuel Spry and Peirce Manaton, late Sub-Commissioners of Excise for co. Cornwall, towards their extraordinaries in their final account to Sept. 29 last. Ordered: allowed of. (Ibid. p. 25.]
Same of April 11 last from same, read and entered, proposing to allow a defalcation of 65l. 6s. 0d. to Humfry Beane, farmer of Excise of Essexc, on his account for said farm for the quarter ended Dec. 25 last, same being for several quantities of beer and ale that have within the said quarter been brought out of London and Middlesex, and consumed and spent within the limits of his farm, viz., between Sept. 29 last and Nov. 8 following thereupon, when the farm of the London Excise began. Same of same date from same, read and entered, concerning a further item of 82l. 1s. 0d. for beer and ale similarly consumed within the limits of the said Humfry Beane's Excise farm, being imported out of London and Middlesex between the said 8th of November, when the London Excise farm began, and Dec. 25 following. With Treasurer Southampton's minute. "This is to bee paid by the farmers of London [Excise] whom wee order to discharge the same. And in case they make any dispute thereupon wee order Saturday the 11th of July for them to [shew] cause. And we desire Mr. Solicitor [General] to attend. [Early Entry Book XII. pp. 26–7.]
The memorial of the 2nd inst. from the Excise Commissioners, read and entered, proposing to allow 628l. to Sir William Blakeston (Blackeston), Sir Gilbert Gerrard and Henry Brabant, merchant, Sub-Commissioners of Excise for Durham, Northumberland and Newcastle, towards their extraordinaries in their final account to 1662, Sept. 29: and further to accept from the said Blakeston 330l. and 170l. for the arrears of 753l. 4s. 3d. and 366l. 4s. 6 ½d. depending on Durham and Newcastle respectively. Same of the 16th inst. from same, read and entered, proposing to accept 170l. from George Rawleigh, Mathew Coppinger and William George for the arrears of 518l. 15s. 4d. standing out on the county of Gloucester on Sept. 29 last: the Sub-Commissioners of Excise for said county (viz., Mr. John Pare, William Warner and William Parsons) having refused to contract for same. Same of this day's date from same, read and entered, proposing to accept 80l. from William George and Mathew Coppinger for the arrears of 216l. 8s. 4d. standing out upon the county of Dorset on Sept. 29 last, Richard Betts, one of the late Sub-Commissioners of Excise for that county being lately dead, and William Danvers, the other, "never coming at us." The report of the 4th ult. from the Commissioners for Arrears of Excise, read and entered, upon the petition of John Ball, Cashier of the Excise, as well of the growing duty as of the arrears, who has had no allowance or gratuity since he was employed therein, and who prays some allowance therefor. In reply hereto propose a salary of 100l. per an. for him from his first undertaking thereof, viz., since 1660–1, March 1. Ordered: allowed of. [Ibid. p. 31.]
