great neglect there has been in that Province in not sending over

revenue raised there from 16 May 1695 with the vouchers [thereof]
to this [present] time, whereof they are not to fail for the future :
and it is therefore hereby given you in charge by his Lordship that
you take care that the said accompts be duly transmitted after
having been examined in Council and approved of by you or the
Lieutenant Governor and attested by my Deputy, Mr. Addington.
I am further to acquaint you that there is a reservation of a yearly
acknowledgment of 7 beaver skins to her Majesty from the tract
of land called Mount-hope ; of which the persons concerned are in
a default for many years last past. My Lord Treasurer does likewise

Inglis, merchant of Edinburgh, to compound a debt of 1776l. 1s. 6d.
to the Crown on payment of 500l. : it appearing that Alexander
Smith deceased had a farm from the Treasury of Scotland of the
revenue of the Post Office in Edinburgh and was likewise employed
by the Postmasters General of England to collect the moneys arising
by the English port of letters from England to Scotland, and said
Inglis together with Patrick Crichton was surety for said Smith ;
and said Smith is dead insolvent indebted to the Crown and said
Crichton is in so low a condition by reason of losses that the whole
of said debt is like to fall on said Inglis : this composition is agreed
in view of the fact that the laws of Scotland are so favourable to
cautioners and that money is so difficult to be got from Scotland.
