August 2. William Lowndes to the Attorney General to report on the enclosed presentment [missing] of the Excise Commissioners concerning the assessments on their officers for the years 1703 and 1705. Out Letters (General) XVIII, p. 117.
Same to [same] to report on the enclosed petition [missing] of Ann Evans widow praying a grant of the 200l. which was paid into the Exchequer Court out of the sale of the estate of George Knype of Semley co. Wilts. outlawed for debt at her suit. How can it be paid to her with the least charge? Ibid.
Same to the Victualling Commissioners to hasten the despatch of the accounts of Mr. Papillon, late Cashier for the Victualling, to the end you may go on with Mr. Sturt's and the other Victualling accounts which have been so long depending before you. Ibid.

William Lowndes to the Revenue Commissioners in Ireland to report on the enclosed petition [missing] of Frederick Trench shewing that his father-in-law William Woods deceased, late one of the surveyors at Ringsend, seized the ship Providence of London alias of Dublin with her lading for trading illegally to France, which was condemned and sold for 1464l. of which one third belonged to said Woods : therefore praying payment of same. August 3. Same to Mr. Borret. I have read to the Lord Treasurer your report on Thomas Walder's memorial relating to several Bankers' annuities which have been mortgaged for several sums by Mr. Richard Taylor, late Paymaster of the Million Lottery Tickets. The Lord Treasurer directs you to sell the said annuities as soon as you can find a purchaser for the most that can be had for the same. Out Letters (General) XVIII, p. 118.
Same to Mr. Wilcox to certify the Lord Treasurer whether timber sufficient and proper may be had out of Windsor Forest for building the bridge intended by the Queen over the river at Datchet and if not from there from where else. Ibid.

William Lowndes to the Agents for Taxes to report on the enclosed memorial [missing] of Sir Mich. Biddulph relating to his composition as one of the sureties of Morgan Whitley. Out Letters (General) XVIII, p. 117.
Same to the Earl of Ranelagh. By the Lord Treasurer's warrant of 1704 May 17 you were ordered to dispose of tallies and orders for reversionary annuities and so many of the returned debentures in your hands as would suffice thereout to pay the outpensioners of Chelsea Hospital. On your certificate that you had satisfied all the said outpensioners and that 1417l. 8s. 10d. of said moneys remained in your hands the Lord Treasurer by his warrant of 1704 Sept. 25 directed you to apply same towards a debt of 2200l. for clothing for Col. Collingwood's Regiment which was sent to the West Indies in 1698. I wrote you several times last summer for a list of the said reversionary annuities and returned debentures and of the produce of sale thereof in order to charge you properly therewith in your accounts. But the Lord Treasurer never received such lists or accounts and several widows and others in behalf of deceased persons belonging to the said Hospital have frequently represented to him that they cannot obtain payment of their arrears and are told by you that they must apply to the Treasury for same : and the clothiers of Collingwood's Regiment are also applying to the Lord Treasurer for their debt. I am to repeat his orders and earnest desire to you for an immediate, faithful and exact account of the above viz. the numbers of all the reversionary orders which you owned to the House of Commons almost two years to be in your hands, and of the whole produce thereof ; and a distinct account of all the returned debentures and what they have been sold for ; and what you have paid out of the produce of the annuities and the returned debentures : and what now remains in your hands of the said money, orders or returned debentures, that so it may be directed to be applied to the uses intended by the said Act and prevent the clamours which, till this be done, will too justly be made against your Lordship : also I am to desire of you an account of what remains in your hands of the 30 per cent. directed by Act of Parliament to be deducted out of the pay of the arrears to the Forces in New York for the saving by the difference of exchange in that place. Treasury reference to the Comptrollers of Army Accounts of the petition of the Earl of Peterborough representing that before his Deputy came to Lisbon he was obliged to advance 84 days' pay to the Aides de Camp of some of the General Officers amounting to 210l. for which he has drawn a bill on Mr. How but Mr. How thinks he cannot properly answer same not being impowered by the Establishment. Same to the Attorney General of the petition of Geo. Preston, Richard Pepper, John Hartley, Richard Paine, Christopher Metcalfe and Francis Stephenson, sureties for the appearance of Jos. Letters patent by Treasurer Godolphin appointing Gregory King to be Secretary to the Comptrollers of Army Accounts loco Henry Cartwright who is since employed in the Office of the Paymaster General of the Forces acting with the Allies : with the salary of 300l. per an. Ibid., p. 72.
Entry of a Treasury caveat in favour of Thomas Addison Esq. against any grant of such houses in the Savoy as at the Revolution were deserted by the Jesuits and Popish Priests, he having obtained a verdict for the same "but that he may be permitted as soon as possession is obtained for her Majesty to lay the whole state of the proceedings before my Lord Treasurer in order to obtain a grant of the remaining terms in the several leases thereof as have been advised by her Majesty's Surveyor General." Rooke in satisfaction of his charge in entertaining the Prince of Hesse and his brother with several officers and servants to the number of 16 at his own cost for above 4 months on board his ship whilst her Majesty's Fleet was under his command the last summer in the Mediterranean. Treasury reference to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of John Mascall et al. merchants of London praying that 190 tuns of small French white prize wines which they have in store and are perishing by reason of the weather may be sold by auction before they are quite decayed. Subscription by Treasurer Godolphin for the execution of a Lord Chamberlain's warrant dated July 20 to John Charleton, Master of the Jewel Office. to deliver to Lord Raby, Ambassador Extraordinary to the King of Prussia, 5893 ounces of white plate and 1066 ounces of gilt plate "which was the allowance heretofore given on the like occasions" : to an estimate of 2500l. Aug. 12. Royal warrant to Treasurer Godolphin to give warrant to the Auditor of Crown Revenues of North and South Wales from time to time to renew and grant leases for all such small tenements and cottages where the full annual value thereof shall not exceed 50s. for such term as the Lord Treasurer shall think fit, not exceeding 31 years : all such leases to be enrolled in his [the Auditor's] office and the reserved rents to be delivered in charge to the respective Receiver of North and South Wales : at every Michaelmas the Auditor to transmit to the Lord Treasurer a certificate of such leases : the said auditor having represented that there are several such small tenements &c. which as he is informed have been anciently leased by the Auditor of Wales, the value being so small that the tenants do not think it worth the charge of renewing them by Exchequer leases "whereby we do not only lose the ancient fine and reserved rent but often the said tenements and wastes are enjoyed by the adjacent inhabitants as their freeholds." Treasury reference to the Auditors of Imprests and the Deputy Remembrancer in the Exchequer of the petition of Sir William Robinson praying to be allowed 792l. 10s. 2d. in his account as Commissary General of Provisions at Chester for the use of the army sent to Ireland, the said sum having been paid by him for salaries to the deputies, storekeepers, clerks, waggoners and contingencies during the time of the service and he having proper vouchers for same. The first list contains the names of the original assignees or of the assignees as they stood on the books of the Exchequer prior to the date of the said certificate. The second list contains the names of the heirs or assigns of the said original assignees. As this second list repeats the information contained in the first list I here omit the first list.
The second list is headed by the following paragraph.
"But it appearing to me by wills, deeds or other assurances since produced that the said several annuities payable for the said principal sums above mentioned were then the properties of and the estates absolutely vested in the persons hereafter named, I do hereby certify them to be the proprietors thereof and humbly desire your Lordship's warrant for drawing orders for paying the same accordingly.
