[?] Same to same of the petition of Thomas Granger shewing that he was appointed by the Customs Commissioners to see the bonds discharged that were left by Mr. Wicks, late Receiver of the Plantation Duties, whereby he becomes chargeable in the Comptroller General's books with 513l. 8s. 0¼d.: in answer to part of which charge he has a certificate that 5 notes amounting to 369l. 6s. 9d. were taken in by him and allowed to the merchants as so much money in discharge of their bonds, the said Wicks having received effects for the said notes and having promised to allow same to the merchants: therefore praying to be allowed said item. Same to Mr. St. John, Secretary at War, and the Comptrollers of the Accounts of the Army of the petition of the Officers of the French Regiment of Dragoons shewing that the Commissary at the musters did not pass their servants as mounted “though they make part of their pay”: therefore praying relief. January 10. Same to Mr. Brydges. At your attendance on the Lord Treasurer he directed you to send him fortnightly certificates of your receipts and payments for the service of the Forces abroad as is constantly done by the Paymaster of the Guards and Garrisons [for the Forces at home]. He desires you to make a certificate of all your receipts to the 10th inst. out of this year's funds [anno 1707], how much has been remitted abroad and for what services and how much applied here [at home] and for what uses: and to do the like every other Friday in future. And in all the said certificates you are separately from the above to express all your receipts since Dec. 23 last out of any other funds or revenue and your application thereof. Same to Mr. Howe, Paymaster General of Guards and Garrisons: for a certificate when the Invalids were last clothed and what the clothing will come to for a detachment of 50 privates of the four Companies of Invalids that are to do duty at Upnor Castle. Ibid., p. 278.

January 13. Same to Mr. Blathwayte of the petition of Samuell Barwick for the office of Receiver of her Majesty's Casual Revenue in Barbados loco John Wiltshire deceased. Ibid.
Same to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of the merchants of Bristol shewing that they discharged the principal money of their bonds before June 1 last according to the Act of last Session and have also paid several sums for interest of former bonds long before that date, amounting to 3088l.: which they pray may be repaid them. Ibid.
[After January 13]. Report to Treasurer Godolphin from William Blathwayt, as Auditor General of the Plantations, on the petition of Samuel Barwick praying for the place of Receiver of her Majesty's casual revenue in the island of Barbados loco John Wiltshire deceased ut supra. Hereon Blathwayt reports that the said office consists in the receipt of all rents, revenues, fines, escheats and forfeitures and other Duties arising and becoming due to her Majesty in that island except only such Duties for the receipt of which other provision is already made particularly of the Duty of Four and a Half per cent. and all Prizes, for which especial officers are at present appointed.
There is usually allowed to the Receiver of the Casual Revenue the salary or allowance of 6 per cent. of all his receipts which [receipts] may amount to 500l. per an. or thereabouts chiefly by fines, escheats and forfeitures, as the said revenue is accidental. The petitioner is well acquainted with the affairs of Barbados where he has lived some years and has an intention of returning thither as soon as he can settle his business here, being ready to give such security in England as is required and as was lately given by Mr. Wiltshire; as also like security in Barbados. I conceive he is well qualified for the office and [he] hopes by his careful discharge of his trust to qualify himself for some other more valuable employment in her Majesty's revenue there as any vacancy may happen.

January 14. Letter of direction for 11,500l. to Sir Thomas Littleton, the Navy Treasurer: out of loans on the Land Tax 1707: to be placed to the head of Wages and is to pay the Flag officers of the Fleet to 1706 Dec. 31. Disposition Book XVIII, p. 231.
William Lowndes to Secretary Harley to communicate to Monsieur Vryberg, Envoy from the States General, the enclosed report [missing] from the Customs Commissioners on his memorial concerning the high Duty on linen thread and tape imported from Holland. Out Letters (General) XVIII, p. 278.
Same to Mr. Burchet to lay before the Lord Admiral the enclosed report [missing] from the Customs Commissioners relating to a convoy for the Virginia Fleet. How did it happen that no convoy was appointed for this fleet last year? My Lord Treasurer desires that a convoy may be yearly appointed at the times proposed in the said report. Ibid.
Treasury reference to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands of the petition of Thomas Dacres Esq. and Eliz. his wife shewing that by right of his marriage he is entitled to a fee farm rent of 8l. 5s. 2d. out of the Castle of Winchester, which is in arrear since 1682. Reference Book VIII, p. 252.
Same to Mr. Wilcox [Surveyor General of Woods, Trent South] of the petition of Sir Fra. Windham and 50 gentlemen and others freeholders and landholders having common of pannage and pasture and other rights in the Forest of Dean co. Gloucester, shewing that the Act of 19–20 Charles II c. 8 for enclosing 11,000 acres in said forest will be a great prejudice to them and the yearly cutting of wood therein will much damage the timber and destroy the woods designed to be preserved by the said Act; therefore desiring to be heard by Counsel “before any proceedings on such inclosing in and cutting on the said 11,000 acres.” Ibid., p. 253.
Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Attorney General to confess Nathaniel Jackson's equitable title to a Victualling bill for 328l. 10s. 0d. now in course of payment, which he bought of one Armiger to whom it was made out and which is stopped in the Victualling Office by the Salt Commissioners, having been seized on an extent against said Armiger on salt bonds given by him: the reality and time of Jackson's buying the same have been made appear on oath.

January 15. Royal warrant dated St. James's for a privy seal for 30,000l. to Edward Nicholas as imprest to be applied [for pensions etc.] according to Establishments signed by the Queen. Queen's Warrant Book XXIII, p. 134.
Same to Treasurer Godolphin to give warrant to Edward Wilcox, Surveyor General of Woods, Trent South, to raise 2000l. in Dean Forest by wood sales of scrubbed beach, birch, holly, hazel, thorns and orle within one year and a half, over and above what has been already directed to be raised by wood sales there: the moneys arising therefrom to be paid into the Receipt as fast as same shall be raised, and for such purposes as the said Lord Treasurer shall appoint. William Lowndes to the Earl of Ranelagh to report on the enclosed petition [missing] of Lord Cheyne praying payment of the remainder of the purchase money for land bought from his father in 1686 for the accommodation of Chelsea Hospital. Out Letters (General) XVIII, p. 279.
Treasury reference to Mr. Blathwaite of the petition of Susan Thomas shewing that her late father Cha. Thomas, when Receiver of the Casual Revenue in Barbados, advanced for the public occasions between 5000l. and 6000l. and was to repay himself with customary interest out of the public funds of that Colony; that Benj. Bullard, her father's executor, hath not as yet been able to prevail with that Government to adjust his accounts: therefore praying that the present Governor Mitford Crow may recommend the speedy finishing her father's accounts and that the balance [due thereon] may be paid.
