November 1. Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to John Thompson gent to deliver to Margaret Griffith widow the 339l. 17s. 4¾d. residue of the Exchequer Bills in your hands (which by warrant of 1704 May 17 you were directed to deliver to Guy Palmes): to be towards the support of her grandchildren according to an agreement made with her by said Palmes: she having made discovery of the said Bills.
Appending: request by said Palmes to said Thompson dated 1703–4 Feb. 21 to pay to said Mrs. Griffith 340l. “or so much money as shall surmount 1400l. of the Exchequer Bills to be delivered to you which Robert Presgrave took away, for I give and appropriate the same to the said Mrs. Griffith in trust for and to the maintenance of her two grandsons, children of the said Robert Presgrave by Mrs. Griffith's daughter. And I direct and order and consent that upon your receipt of such Exchequer Bills of the amount of 1400l. or upwards you vacate all inquisitions and process which I have obtained against the said Presgrave and his creditors.” Money Book XVIII, p. 329.

Treasury reference to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of Gregory Page and John Moore, owners of the ship Anna employed by the Managers of the United Trade to the East Indies, shewing that they gave bond in 10,000l. that said ship should not break bulk on her homeward journey; that the Commander sold some goods of his own to supply the ship with necessaries in consequence of great misfortunes at sea and is prosecuted for same. November 1. Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Excise Commissioners to sell 20 tons of eager cider lying at Dover taken out of the prize Hope of Rouen and to retain two thirds of the proceeds for Duty and to pay the remaining one third to Richard Richardson.

November 2. Royal warrant dated Kensington, to the Warden, Master and Comptroller of the Mint to give liberty to the gravers of the Mint to make medals of gold and silver for the improvement of the art of graving, not relating to State affairs, taking care that such of them as shall be for rewarding persons for good service to the sovereign have impressed upon them the service for which such medals were given, with the date; and to make such other historical medals in memory of great actions as shall be approved by you: all in accordance with your report proposing as above in order that the gravers may not lose their skill by being without practice in their art. Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Salt Commissioners for stay of process against Dr. Benjamin Woodroffe on Salt Duties, he having considerable sums due to him for maintaining the Greek youths residing at Oxford. Warrants not Relating to Money XIX, p. 582.

Treasurer Godolphin to Sir Godfrey Copley. I am obliged for the information in yours of the 2nd inst. Mr. Gilliver has an authority from me to collect certain arrears. I have directed an inquiry as to whether he has exceeded his commission or not. Out Letters (General) XVIII, p. 256.
[? November 5.] Treasurer Godolphin to Col. Handasyde, Governor of Jamaica. Thanks for yours of June 18 Aug. 6 and Sept. 15 last and for your concern for Lord Marlborough's honour. I will do you right to his Grace as soon as he arrives here, which I expect will be in a few days. The Prizes Commissioners found Mr. Brown very backward in sending over accounts of prizes and therefore replaced him. In accordance with the advice in yours of the 18th June last I directed all prize money in Jamaica and the Plantations to be paid to the Agents of the Navy and Victualling in those parts, they giving their bills for the same on the Navy Treasurer here. But reports go here that there have been many rich prizes carried into Jamaica and disposed of there, and the Prizes Commissioners think there ought to be more in Mr. Browne's hands than the 7 or 8000l. which he is now remitting. Bring him to a speedy account. As to the hardship suffered by your Regiment from the rates [of exchange] at which Sir Gilbert Heathcote remits their subsistence I will endeavour some way of redress, though Sir Gilbert is under contract with the Paymaster here for a good while yet to come. November 5. Treasury reference to the Postmaster General of the petition of Robert West and Agnes Hamilton shewing that Wm. III granted to Thomas Neale power to erect Post Offices in North America for 21 years without account and to appoint Deputies [in America to himself as Post Master General in England]: in pursuance whereof he deputed Andrew Hamilton since deceased at a salary of 200l. per an. who with great labour and expense settled a regular post from New York southward through the Provinces of New Jersey and Pennsylvania and eastward through Long Island et al. 70 miles beyond Boston in New England, in all above 500 miles, which proves of great advantage to trade: that above 1300l. is due to them, petitioners, as executors of said Hamilton, for securing whereof the said Neal assigned all his interest in the said grant [? to them] who ever since the said Neale's decease have continued to support the said post: that above 3000l. is due to them: therefore praying that 21 years may be added to the present term with power to erect pacquet boats for letters and passengers betwixt England and New York. Same to Mr. Borrett. The executors of the late Queen Dowager have not yet complied with the Lord Treasurer's request concerning the delivery of the records relating to her jointure lands. They allege that they cannot be sufficiently indemnified by the Surveyor General of Crown Lands for handing over the said records. Please inform them that the Attorney General advises a bill in the Exchequer Court and a decree [to be] obtained for their indemnity thereon. Please report a state of Dr. Wells's charges in the trial relating to the presentation to the vicarage of [St. Botolphs] Aldgate. Ibid.

Royal warrant to Treasurer Godolphin to pay .2500l. to Mitford Crow who was appointed to go on her Majesty's special service to Genoa and Spain with the like allowances as to Envoys in foreign parts and he accordingly received 910l. for 6 months' ordinary in advance to 1705 Sept. 7 and 500l. for equipment. The present payment is for 354 days from 1705 Sept. 7 to 1706 Aug. 27 on the ordinary of 5l. a day and the remaining 730l. for 4 bills of extraordinaries. (Money warrant dated Nov. 19 hereon). Treasury reference to Mr. Travers, Surveyor General of Crown Lands, of the petition of William Sadler to be admitted to enjoy certain lands and tenements in the parishes of Over Whitacre, Kingsbury and Shestock [Shustoke] in co. Warwick of which his ancestors had a grant from the Crown and which his father under sequestration in Charles I's service was obliged to sell as freehold whereas they could not be alienated from the Crown.
