Mr. Brydges acquaints my Lord Treasurer that having attended the Bank in order to the borrowing some money for the extraordinary services represented [memorialised for] by him on the 29th Dec. last, upon [security of] a deposit of tallies on the General Mortgage anno 1709, they are willing to advance the sum of 25,000l. on the said deposit to enable him to satisfy bills of exchange, provided they may be repaid with interest after the rate of 6 per cent. per an. from the time of advancing to the time of repayment out of the first money to be paid into the Bank upon the intended Lottery or in Exchequer Bills within the space of two months from the time of advancing as aforesaid. |

Mr. Brydges having represented to my Lord Treasurer the pressing occasion there is for a sum of 30,000l. in further part of the particulars amounting to 70,000l. contained in his memorial of the 29th Dec.
last (of which the Bank has already advanced 25,000l.), my Lord is pleased to agree that if the Bank will advance the said further sum of 30,000l. on a deposit of tallies on the General Mortgage anno 1709 they shall be repaid out of the first money to be paid into the Bank upon the intended Lottery or in Exchequer Bills within two months from the time of advancing, together with 6 per cent. per an. interest. Mr. Howe's memorial is read for the extraordinary sums paid by him for the service of the war in the year 1709. My Lord Treasurer takes notice therein of an article of 2,013l. 6s. 8d. paid to Mr. Peter for small clothing for the Forces ordered to attend the Expedition. Mr. Walpole being present acquaints my Lord that they were sent to Spain with General Wills and were ordered to be delivered to the Commissary of the Queen's Stores [at any place] wherever he [Wills] should land. My Lord Treasurer [informs them that he] will speak with General Stanhope that care may be taken of them [the said clothing] for the Queen's account. |
