Stafford 1708–1710: the Commissioners' report in this case traversing three previous reports of 1711 Sept. 30, 1711 Nov. 12 and 1714–15 March 16 concerning the hardships on him which he alleged to be due to the false oath of John Hare. Petitioner prays an allowance for remitting 32,912l. 10s. 4d. to the Exchequer in Exchequer Bills, alleging that the hazard was as great as if it had been in specie. “We do not find it hath been usual for Receivers to have any allowance made them for such sums as have been paid in Exchequer Bills: upon which having examined the petitioner he affirms that the greatest part thereof was remitted [? collected] by him in specie but at that time bills of exchange were all paid in London in Exchequer Bills which occasioned his payments to be made in that manner: to the truth of which he hath made affidavit: wherefore we are of opinion it may not be unreasonable to make him an allowance of 6s. 6d. per cent. Money warrant for 130l. 16s. 11½d. to Sir James Bateman, Sir Theodore Janssen, Samuel Shepheard, Sir Harcourt Masters, John Blunt, Richard Houlditch and Jacob Sawbridge, the Trustees for sale of divers parts or shares lately belonging to the publique in the capital stock of the South Sea Company: being the surplusage resting upon their accompt lately passed in the Exchequer.
The said sum is hereby to be repaid out of the money remaining in the Exchequer of imprest money repaid by the Treasurer of the Ordnance.

“Let this order be executed by virtue of the general letters patent dormant dated 14 Aug. 1714, by such proportions at a time as shall be signified to you pursuant to our [the Treasury Lords'] direction out of any money which now is or hereafter shall be in the Receipt of Exchequer arisen and to arise by and out of arrears of Land Taxes pursuant to the late Act of Parliament [3 Geo. Same to the Auditor of the Receipt, the Clerk of the Pells and the rest of the officers of the Receipt concerned, to take in any sums at the Receipt to a total of 24,195l. 18s. 2d. from any persons native or foreign &c. who will advance and pay the same for purchasing an annuity at 4 per cent. to be paid out of the General Fund of 724,849l. 6s. 101/5d. per an. established by the Act [3 Geo. I., c. 7] of last session of Parliament: and to strike and deliver to the payers of the said advance money tallies of sol for the same to entitle them to the said annuities according to the said Act: “And the moneys so to be advanced is to be issued and applied by way of imprest and upon accompt for satisfying bills of exchange drawn for the service of the late Expedition to Canada” [as below].
