Commissioners to discharge the seizure of the ship
Fortune, of London, John Allen master, with her
lading of timber and deal boards : said master
undertaking his voyage at Portsmouth, not having
been able to provide himself a sufficient number of
English mariners sent to his owners in London
to be furnished from thence, whereupon six men
were hired, but three ran away and had to be
replaced by two strangers who were inhabitants
of this Kingdom, married to English women and
kept houses there : so that he returned with three
other strangers before hired on the said ship and
ten English.

Same from same to same. On the 24th you represented
to me that a quantity of salt was imported into
Harwich for the use of the Royal Fishery, but
contrary to a clause in the Act of Frauds prohibiting
the importation of salt from Germany or the
Netherlands. I have acquainted the King therewith,
who directs that since the said salt is a sort not to be
had in England or elsewhere in the King's dominions,
nor can the design of fishing be carried on without
it, same may be imported for the account of the
Royal Fishery, notwithstanding the above prohibition.
It is to pay Custom as for foreign salt. You
are hereby to observe this.

reasons in part or whole unsettled, unlimited and

Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Surveyor General
of Crown Lands for a particular or constat of 10 acres
called Bolswith Wood within the manor of Penline,
co. Cornwall, parcel of the Duchy of Cornwall, with
a view to lease thereof to John Day for three lives
or 31 years under the yearly rent of 5 groats and
fine of 20l.
Prefixing : Said Surveyor General's report dated
July 17 on said Day's petition for same. The wood
ground is a customary tenement, and the herbage
thereof granted at the assession from seven years
to seven [years] at 6d. per an. rent, but the underwood
belongs to the Crown, and it may be no disservice
to grant a lease thereof to Richard Kendall, son of
Walter Kendall, gent., the present tenant, for
three lives or 31 years at the same rent (the profit
of the underwood which hath not been fallen under
24 years' growth or more having been very small
and is subject to be worn out and come to nothing
as now it is) for a fine of 20l. or increase rent of 20s.
per an., with covenants for preserving the wood
from spoil and harm, and so to leave it at the end
of his term. "If the said Richard Kendall in
respect of the great charge of passing a lease of
this small parcel shall desire rather to take it at the
next assession per ordinem Domini Thesaurarii
Angliae including the underwood, as a customary
tenant, I think it may be so granted without any
prejudice."
