June 1684

Date. Nature and Substance of the Entry. Reference.
June 26. Henry Guy to the Revenue Commissioners, Ireland. Send the Treasury Lords your opinion on Mr. Legg's petition concerning the French tunnage in Ireland more fully than in your report of Jan. 13 last; also what will be the best way to manage that revenue for the King's service. Out Letters (Ireland) IV, p. 61.
The Treasury Lords to the [Earl of Arran] Lord Deputy of Ireland. We are informed of a decree given in the [Irish] Exchequer this last term for Sir John Champante against the Earl of Ranelagh and his partners for 24,000l. and odd hundred pounds, and that same will be executed with all expedition. Give effectual order to the Irish Exchequer to take care that none of the arrears due from the country to the said undertakers nor any other effects whatsoever belonging to them in Ireland be applied to the satisfaction of said decree till the judgments given for the King upon the contract and the 24,000l. bond be fully paid. Any process that Champante may have had issued for bringing in the said debts or arrears towards his satisfaction is to be forthwith superseded and whatever money has been already collected by such process is to be forthwith paid into the Exchequer towards answering the said two judgments for his Majesty. Ibid.
June 26. The Treasury Lords to the [Earl of Arran] Lord Deputy of Ireland. Some of the late inhabitants of Tangier, that have money due to them from the officers of the four Independent Companies that went out of Ireland to Tangier, have given us a list of the debts due to them. Lord Dartmouth promised them that same should be made good as [and when] the said officers should be paid their arrears. Since the said officers arrived in Ireland they have been paid a great part of their arrears but no care is taken of their debts. We enclose a list of said debts, that due care may be taken therein to prevent clamour. Out Letters (Ireland) IV, p. 62.

Same to same. Sir William Talbot is apprehensive that the Commission for confirming defective titles in Ireland may be prejudicial to the Duke of York's interest there and has brought us the enclosed draft [missing] of a letter to be sent to you [thereon]. Submit same to the King's counsel et al., Ireland and report hereon. There goes along with this [draft] a list offered likewise by Sir William Talbot of lands proposed to be reserved for the Duke of York as to which no person should be admitted to put in a claim under the said commission. Ibid, p. 63.

Bucks. There was 1,000l. due by judgment to said Harborne from Mr. Kirk, late housekeeper to the Palace of Whitehall, and petitioner and his wife have several times prayed the King to have Kirk arrested in order that they might meet the debt to the King, but could not obtain leave. Middlesex, which may be conveniently conveyed thence to London and Westminster by pipes to be laid in the high ways without any charge or damage to the King or subject: therefore prays the liberty and power of so conveying said water at his own charge and for the accommodation of the inhabitants at fair rates with liberty to set up engines and instruments and to break and dig up the earth etc. Reference Book II, p. 30.

King's Warrant Book IX, p. 366.
