Same to Sir John Buckworth, Charles Duncomb and James Hoare, Commissioners for executing the office of Master and Worker of the Mint, to forthwith suspend William Taylor from his office of assistant to the Weigher and Teller of the Mint until further order, he having committed an evil practice there in causing old guineas to be received into the said Mint and new guineas to be delivered out for them, particularly to Sir William Clifton, who was thereby defrauded of about 3l.; which practice tends to the discredit of the Mint and to the hazard and danger of the principal officers thereof. July 15. Treasury warrant to the Customs Cashier to pay the 1684, June 24 quarter's salary bill of the outports: (total, 4,281l. 6s. 2d. for established salaries and 570l. 10s. 0d. for additional salaries or 4,851l. 16s. 2d. in all). Money Book V, p. 6.
Same to the Clerk of the Pipe for a lease to Henry, Duke of Norfolk, of a piece of land (parcel of the waste land called Braywood) in Windsor Forest, extending west 110 perches from the north end of Crutchfield Lane, near the enclosed land of Lovelace Hertsey, esq., son of John Hertsey, esq., and thence 110 perches north and thence 190 perches east and thence 60 perches south and thence 80 perches west again and thence 60 acres south to the end of Crutchfield Lane: all in the parish and manor of Bray, co. Berks, and containing 100 acres. The present lease is to be for 31 years at the rent of four nobles per an. payable either into the Exchequer or to the Receiver of the revenue of the Honor and Castle of Windsor. Prefixing: (a) particular of the premises grounded upon a survey made by Francis Carswell, Doctor of Divinity; (b) ratal thereof by John Fisher in the absence of William Harbord, Surveyor General of Crown Lands. The lessee to be at liberty to erect a dwelling house thereon.
July 15. Treasury reference to the Attorney General of the report from the Surveyor General of Crown Lands made on the petition of Lord Hunsdon, ut supra, p. 1166; said report being as follows. I have sent to the bailiff et al. of Great Yarmouth and am informed that there are no buildings lately erected on the deanes near that town but what have been built within the walls and bounds thereof some few years last past: to these the Corporation conceive they have a legal title by their charter from King John which grants them that borough under a rent of 55l. per an.: this [charter] has been confirmed to them by several kings since: they are now renewing their charter again. The Attorney General can advise whether he conceives their late new buildings be included therein. Reference Book II. pp. 43–4.
Same to same of the following paper. After hearing the Receiver of [Crown Revenues in] co. Anglesea and Mr. Vensley, the [said] Receiver's messenger, the Attorney General is to report his opinion. Ibid, p. 44.

Treasury reference to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands of the petition of Samuel Craford; petitioner shewing that his father and brother were slain in the late King's service; that Sir Edward [Walpole] and Sir John Walpoole for his faithfulness in the late times made him bailiff of the Queen [Mother's] manor of Spalding and [he] continued so till Francis Johnson purchased the same from the Commissioners for the late Queen [Mother's] revenue: that there are several fines, amerciaments and arrears of rent to be collected; that he bought a windmill in Gonerby to be removed but had not time to remove same; that he took a lease of certain premises in Spalding and paid 90l. but could not enjoy same by reason of a prior grant to Sir Edward Walpole: therefore prays a warrant to collect said fines etc., to remove said mill and for compensation for said lease by a grant of some small rents. Prefixing: undated report by Thomas Wharton and Philip Wharton [Wardens of the Mint] on said petition. We think [the husband of] petitioner is a fit object for pardon as we have no extraordinary information against him had he not fled the kingdom and thereby owned and declared his particular guilt.

[?] Treasury warrant to the Customs Cashier to make a memorandum on his accounts that the payments which have been made up to this time to the Chancellor of the Order of the Garter (being after the rate of 800l. per an. by the agreement which reduced the 1,200l. per an. for the support of said order to 800l., after which rate the issues have been made up to 1682, Christmas) have been sufficient to defray the particular uses thereof until and for the quarter ended 1684, Lady day; and further to pay 129l. 6s. 3d. to Seth, Bishop of Sarum, for 1684, June 24 quarter, after the rate of 517l. 5s. 0d. per an. to which sum it is agreed that the said yearly sum, for the support of the honour of that order, shall be reduced from 1684, Lady day. July 15. Money warrant for 6,283l. 8s. 4d. to William Hewer, Treasurer of the late garrison of Tangier, as imprest in part of the 50,000l. for the extraordinary expense of the garrison of Tangier as by, and as in full of, the privy seal of 1682, Nov. 2, for 50,000l. for same. Treasury warrant to abovesaid Hewer, to pay 2,470l. to Mr. Benjamin Rookeby (Rokeby) and partner as in full (with the 1,000l. already paid) of the 3,470l. which the Treasury Lords did in July, 1683, undertake to pay to them for moneys advanced [by them to] Henry Shere, esq., upon account of the fortifications and mote at Tangier, which sum said Shere acknowledged to be due to them upon an adjustment of accompts made upon their leaving Spain and coming to England in 1682. Money Book V, p. 4.
Appending: note by said H. Shere, desiring the said 2,470l. to be paid to said Rokeby upon account as above. "I am contented that the same may be charged as an imprest on my account with his Majesty."
July 15. Treasury warrant to Philip Burton to pay 300l. to Richard Graham for Crown law charges ("in prosecution of several persons for several misdemeanours and doing other services pursuant to such directions as he hath received from his Majesty and his most Honourable Privy Council or otherwise): to be paid out of moneys imprested to said Burton for such charges. Money Book V, p. 5.
Money warrant for 651l. 7s. 2d. to Thomas Ducke for 6 per cent. interest to June 18 last for money by him lent for his Majesty's service; as by an account thereof stated by Auditor Aldworth and allowed by the Treasury Lords the 2nd inst. (For the warrant for 4 per cent. gratuity hereon see infra under date July 28.) Ibid.
Henry Guy to the Attorney General to take into consideration Sir William Killegrew's papers, lately sent to you. Said Killegrew has been with the Treasury Lords this morning and my Lords consider that he is old and if something be not speedily done in the matter of his papers he is likely to die before it is effected. He brought a new paper to my Lords this morning which I enclose [missing] viz. a proposal for his Majesty [to consider, viz.] to drain Lindsey Level with the Eight Hundred Level in one worke. I am to remind you of the matter recommended to you by the Treasury Lords relating to the Great Wardrobe, viz., whether the King if he pleases may not furnish himself with such things as he used to have out of the Wardrobe in another place. I send you the patents [relating to the Great Wardrobe] for your guidance. If you want any other papers send for them to Mr. Darcy or Mr. Benyon, officers of the Wardrobe. Ibid.
Same to same enclosing the petition [missing] of Mr. Aldred Seaman, steward of his Majesty's borough of Milverton. Instruct him therein what may be done by law and for his Majesty's service. Ibid, p. 386.
Same to the Navy Commissioners to make out a ticket to Lieut. George Bing for his services in the King's ship Oxford, "or to salve his wages on the said ship's books to discharge the Treasurer of the Navy in the payment thereof." Ibid.
Same to Lord Dartmouth to direct the Ordnance Office to call on Lady Clutterbuck for an account what debentures she has in her hands on the Ordnance Office which are unassigned; and also for an account of any bonds she pretends to have been given by herself or her husband for stores furnished for his Majesty's service and to whom; and to call for those bonds from the persons that have them; and to desire them to produce any accounts that they have to show that those bonds are really for moneys for stores furnished into the Office. Thereupon the Ordnance Office is to give the Treasury Lords an account what may remain unassigned [of said Clutterbuck's debentures] allowing those bonds to be first complied with. Ibid.

Henry Guy to Alderman Duncombe to advance to Lady Deering, executrix of Sir Edward Dering, 800l. for two quarters' salary to June 24 last as late a Treasury Lord: same to be paid "without deduction of fees as [such salary] hath been usually paid to him." The Treasury Lords will repay you the said money by Michaelmas next and you are to take Lady Dering's acquittance for same so as to discharge the Exchequer. Disposition Book II, p. 382.
