Reference by Treasurer Rochester to the Commissioners of Excise and Hearthmoney of the petition of Thomas Price for the place of head collector of Hearthmoney in the several counties of North Wales, lately void by the removal of Mr. Probart, petitioner being acquainted in those parts. Reference Book III, p. 254.
Same by same to Richard Graham and Philip Burton of the petition of Percy Goring for a grant of the fine of 1,000 marks this day imposed in the King's Bench upon Sir Rich. Newdigate, petitioner's "condition at present needing some port." Ibid, p. 265.
Feb. 3. Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant and restitution to John Hambden of all the real and personal estate forfeited by any treasons, trespasses etc. of said Hampden against the late or present King and for discharging all fines, executions, seizures and process against him or his estate. King's Warrant Book X, p. 283.
[?] Same to same for same for a grant to Katherine, Countess of Dorchester, of an annuity or yearly pension of 3,000l. payable quarterly out of the Exchequer from Christmas last for 5¼ years terminable on her life. Further, for a grant to her for 99 years from 1691, Lady day, terminable on her life, of all the quit rents amounting in the whole to 5,000l. per an., being in cos. Tipperary, Kilkenny, Meath, West Meath and elsewhere, which by Charles II were granted 1669, Aug. 2, to James, Duke of Ormonde: she paying therefor the yearly rent of 1,500l. sterling into the Exchequer, Ireland: with clauses that any shortage in the payment of said annuity of 3,000l. and any diminution or decay in said rents shall be made good to her out of her said rent of 1,500l. Further for a grant to Richard, Visct. Preston, George, Lord Dartmouth, Master of the Horse, James Graham, Keeper of the Privy Purse, and Francis Gwynn of all the said quit rents for seven years from the determination of her said term therein on trust to permit her or her executors to recoup thereout any such shortage as above and in trust as to the remainder, for the King and his successors. "And whereas we may think fit after the end of the said term of five years and one quarter, for the better accommodation of the said Katherine, Countess of Dorchester, to continue the payment of the same or the like annuity of 3,000l. per an. to her in England," then in such case she is herein to be obliged to assign to the King so much of the said rents in Ireland as shall be paid to her on such continued annuity together with the loss thereon by the rate of exchange from Ireland to England.
