King's Message concerning Adjournment.

Mr. Speaker, from his Majesty : - But first clears himself, touching the Adjournment. - That he adjourned it, without the Privity of the House: - Challenged and questioned : - That he adjourned it till Wednesday, that a few Number might over-carry it. - That the House hath Power, and that his Majesty hath a superior Power, to adjourn; But in this, and all other Things, in his Intentions, he appeals to the Justice, and not the Favour of the House; though in all other Things, of his Actions, being imperfect, he will appeal to their Favour. - His Majesty conceives, that he is much touched in Honour, in this Report: That he received it from the Ordinaries in the Town, not from the House, or any Member: Protests, he will never do it by Circumvention, with them, or with any other. -

That he hath no particular End to himself, but the Peace and the general Good of the Land : That he hopes they have the same End: He leaves the Form to themselves - That Offenders should be punished, and Peace should be kept. -

He wills them to take what Time they will, so as they effect that is fitting. -
