Marshalsea Court.

A NEW Bill touching the Abuses of the Marshal's Court, intituled, An Act for Reformation of Abuses, and the due Execution of Justice, in the Court of Marshalsea of the King's Houshold, and Vierge of the same [c], offered by Sir Geo. Moore; with Protestation, that he did it, not to cross the Proceeding of the Bill in the House, but of a mere Desire to work a Reformation of the Abuses.

Fens.

The Council in the Bill of Fens, being, by former Order, to be heard this Day, came to the Bar; viz.

Mr. Gerrard, in Part against the Bill:

Mr. Finch, for the Passage.

Mr. Gerrard beginneth, not generally (he said) against the Bill, but to exempt some Grounds that are now more valuable than they can be made by draining, to the Owner, Commoner, the Commonwealth, and the Poor.

The Counsel, after short Argument, retired.

The Matter argued by some in the House.

Begun by one thus [d]:

Aut haec in nostros fabricata est machina muros,

Aut aliquis latet error : Equo ne credite, Teucri.

His Division was:

1. Whether possible :

2. Whether profitable:

3. If possible, and profitable; whether in Proportion fit for private Gain, or rather for publick.

Many Speeches, pro et contra; and, in Conclusion, thought fit to be re-committed ; with more Committees added ; viz. Sir William Twysenden, Sir Herbert Crofts, Sir Henry Poole, Sir Henry Nevill, Sir Antho. Cope, Sir Rich. Leigh, Sir Thomas Grantham, Sir Jerome Bowes, Sir John Leigh, Mr. Overbury, Sir John Hollice, Mr. Carleton, Sir Robert Johnson, Sir William Burlacy, Sir William

Bulstrod, Mr. Martin, Sir Walter Cope, Sir Thomas Walter, Sir Francis Hastings, Sir Roger Owen, Sir John Bennet, Sir Thomas Challoner, Mr. Hyde, Mr. Tate : -

To meet on Tuesday next, in the Parliament-house.

City of London Estates.

L. 3a. An Act for Securing and Confirming of divers Lands, Tenements, and Rents, granted to the several Companies of the City of London, and to the Mayor and

Commonalty of the City of London : - Thirdly read ; and the Counsel, attending by former Order, heard; viz.

For the Bill, Mr. Stephens, Mr. Finch:

Against the Bill, - - - Mr Smyth of the Temple.

Among other Circumstances, the Copy of an Order of the Lords of the Council, as a special Motive of the preferring of this Bill, was read in the House, as followeth :

At the Court at Whytehall, on Sunday, the 14th of December 1606.

Present:

Lord Chancellor, Lord Treasurer, Lord Admiral, Lord Chamberlain, Earl of Shrewsbury, Earl of Worcester, Earl of Northampton, Earl of Salisbury, Lord Knollys, Lord Wotton, Lord of Kinlosse.

U P O N a Petition exhibited this Day unto their Lordships by the several Masters, Wardens, and Freemen of the several Companies within the City of London, That whereas they had compounded, several times, for certain Lands and Tenements, given and bequeathed, some of them to superstitious Uses; and that now of late they are again put in Doubt of their Title, and their Lands sought to be obtained of his Majesty; it was resolved, and thought fit by their Lordships, for divers good Considerations, that his Majesty should be moved to give his gracious Leave and Consent, that the said Lands might, by Act of Parliament, be confirmed and made sure unto them ; and that a particular Bill should be presently put up to the Parliament, to that Purpose.

Concordat cum original.

John Corbett.
