Islington, &c. Roads

A BILL for the Repair of the Highways in the Parishes of Islington, and St. Pancras, was read a Second time.

And the Question being put, That the Bill be committed;

Supply.

Sir Thomas Littleton, according to Order, reported, from the Committee of the whole House, to whom it was referred to consider further of the Supply to be granted to his Majesty, for carrying on the War against France, the Resolutions of the said Committee; which they had directed him to report to the House; and which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were read; and are as follow; viz.

1. Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee, That, towards the carrying on the War against France, a Supply be granted to his Majesty, for the Maintaining 40,000 Seamen, for 13 Months, for the Service of the Year 1697.

2. Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee, That the Sum of Four Pounds Five Shillings per Man, per Month, be allowed for the said Forty-thousand Seamen.

3. Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee, That the Sum of Eighty-five thousand Seven hundred and Forty Pounds be allowed for the Ordinary of the Navy.

4. Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee, That the Sum of Sixteen thousand Nine hundred Seventy-two Pounds be allowed for the Officers of the Two Marine Regiments.

5. Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee, That the Sum of 59,485 l. be allowed for the Charge of the Registry of Seamen.

6. Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee, That 87,440 Men, including Commission-Officers and Non-commission-Officers, according to the List of the Land-Forces delivered into the House, are necessary for the Service of the Year 1697, to be employed in England, and beyond the Seas.

7. Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee, That the Pay of the Horse, Dragoons, and Foot, according to the List of the Land-Forces delivered into the House, for the Service of the Year 1697, be the Sum of 2,007,881 l. 19s. 11d.

8. Resolved, That it is the Opinion of this Committee, That the Sum of Five hundred Thousand Pounds be allowed for the extraordinary Service of the Office of Ordnance, and for the Pay of the General Officers, and for Transports, Hospitals, Contingencies, and other extraordinary Charges of the War, for the Year 1697.

The first Five of the said Resolutions, being severally read a Second time, were, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

The Sixth Resolution being read a Second time;

And the Question being put, That the House do agree with the Committee in the said Resolution, That 87,440 Men, including Commission-Officers and Non-commission-Officers, according to the List of the Land-Forces delivered into the House, are necessary for the Service of the Year 1697, to be employed in England, and beyond the Seas;

The 7th and 8th Resolutions, being severally read a Second time, were, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Resolved, That a Sum not exceeding the Sum of 2,372,197 l. be granted to his Majesty, for the Maintenance of the Navy, for the Year 1697, for carrying on the War against France.

Resolved, That a Sum not exceeding 2,507,881 l. 19s. 11d. be granted to his Majesty, for maintaining the Land-Forces, for the Service of the Year 1697.

Ways and Means.

Resolved, That this House will, upon Monday Morning next, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of Ways and Means for raising the Supply granted to his Majesty, for carrying on the War against France, for the Service of the Year 1697.

St. Mawes Writ.

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do issue his Warrant to the Clerk of the Crown, to make out a new Writ, for the electing a Burgess to serve in this present Parliament for the Borough of St. Mawes, in the County of Cornwall, in the room of Seymour Tredenham Esquire, deceased.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Doctor of Oxenden have Leave to go into the Country, to the Funeral of a near Relation.

State of the Nation.

The House, according to the Order of the Day, resolved itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the State of the Nation.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

Sir Richard Onslow took the Chair of the Committee.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Sir Richard Onslow reported from the said Committee, That they had directed him to move the House, That Sir George Rooke may attend the House, to give an Account, why the French Thoulon Squadron was not intercepted in going into Brest.

Ordered, That Sir George Rooke do attend this House, upon Tuesday Morning next, to give an Account, why the French Thoulon Squadron was not intercepted in going into Brest.

Sir Richard Onslow also reported from the said Committee, That they had directed him to move the House, That the Officers and Ministers of the Exchequer may give an Account what new-coined Monies were brought thither from the Tower; and how issued out; to whom; and for what Purposes.

Ordered, That the Officers and Ministers of the Exchequer do, upon Tuesday Morning next, lay before this House an Account what new-coined Monies have been brought thither from the Tower; and how the same was issued out; to whom; and for what Purposes.

Sir Richard Onslow also acquainted the House, That he was directed by the said Committee to move, That they may have Leave to sit again.

Resolved, That this House will, upon Wednesday next, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider further of the State of the Nation.

And then the House adjourned till Friday Morning next, Nine a Clock.
