Bishop of Winchester's Leasing.

AN ingrossed Bill, from the Lords, intituled, An Act for confirming a Lease, granted by the Lord Bishop of Winchester, of a Parcel of Waste-ground in Alverstock, in the County of Southampton, for the erecting of Waterworks there, and for improving the same, was read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time Tomorrow Sevennight.

Return of Juries at Assizes.

Ordered, That the Bill for the more easy Return of Juries at the Assizes and Sessions be read a Second time upon Saturday Morning next.

Wove Buttons.

An ingrossed Bill to suppress the making wove Buttons was read the Third time.

And an Amendment was proposed to be made, Pr. *, L. *, by adding after "Buttons," "made of Cloth or Stuff:"

And the same was, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House; . . . . . .

And the Question being put, That the Bill do pass;

It passed in the Negative.

Qualifying for Offices.

Mr. Farrer reported from the Committee, to whom the Bill for giving further time to divers Persons to qualify themselves for their Employments and Trusts was committed, That they had examined and considered the same; and made several Amendments to the Bill; which they had directed him to report to the House; which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and then a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

A Clause was offered to be added to the Bill, That nothing therein should be construed or taken to restore any Person to any Office or Employment, who, by reason of his not qualifying himself, hath been removed from such Office or Employment:

And the same was twice read; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.

Improving Woollen Manufacture.

Sir George Hungerford reported from the Committee, to whom the Bill for the better improving the Woollen Manufacture, was committed, That they had made several Amendments to the Bill; which they had directed him to report to the House; which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and then a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

A Clause was offered to be added to the Bill to prevent the deceitful Winding of Wool.

And the same was twice read; and amended; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Another Clause was offered to be added to the Bill, with Blanks, for Factors not to sell Wool, or Dyeing Stuffs:

And the Clause was twice read; and the Blanks filled up:

And then the Clause was, by Leave of the House, withdrawn.

Another Clause was offered to be added to the Bill, That all broad, mixed, or white Cloths, made in the West Riding of the County of York, shall, after the First of September 1698, contain between Forty and Forty-two Yards in Length, and in Breadth Six Quarters:

And the same was twice read; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Ordered, that the Bill, with the Amendments be ingrossed.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Mr. Portman have Leave to go into the Country for Three Weeks, upon extraordinary Occasions.

Ordered, That Sir Ralph Ashton have Leave to go to the Bath for a Month, for Recovery of his Health.

Ordered, That Sir John Manwaring have Leave to go into the Country for Ten Days, upon extraordinary Occasions.

Ways and Means.

The House, according to Order, resolved itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider further of Ways and Means for raising the Supply granted to his Majesty.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

Sir Thomas Littleton took the Chair of the Committee.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Sir Thomas Littleton reported from the said Committee, That they had taken further Consideration of the Matter to them referred.

Committees.

Ordered, That all Committees be revived.
