PRAYERS.

Kemp's, &c. Petition.

THE humble Petition of Richard Kemp, and Christopher Wormley, was read: And it was Ordered, That this Business be respited till Wednesday Morning next.

Poll-money.

Ordered, That those Sheriffs, that have brought their Poll-money to London, shall pay in their Money into the Chamber of London: And the Commissioners for Poll-money there to receive the same.

Letters read.

A Letter, from the Lord General, of the One-and-thirtieth of Aug.; from Sir Wm. Uvedale, of the 30th of Aug.; One from Sir Jo. Coniers, from Pomfret, of the 3d of Sept.; Two Letters from Mr. Fienes, &c. from Edinburgh, of the 1st of Sept.; were read.

Ditto.

A Letter from the Lord Maitland to Mr. Hollis, of the 3d of Sept. dated from York; to Mr. Denzill Hollys, concerning the disbanding of the Armies, and Ratification of the Treaty, was read.

Ditto.

A Letter from the Lord General of the 3d of Sept. dated from Yorke; and likewise a Copy of the Instructions from the Lord General, to the Lord Grandison, to go withal into Scotland; was likewise read.

The Plague.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Ro. Rich. and Mr. Page;

The Justices of Peace of Midd. and Westminster, have made it known unto the Lords, That the Plague increases; that heretofore they have had Orders, which they have put in Execution for the Well-governing of those that were visited; but now, the Parliament sitting, they did forbear to put any of them in Execution, till they had received some Order and some Instructions from both Houses; and that they have appointed Five of their Number; and desire that they, or any Three of them, may meet with a proportionable Number of this House, to consider of [some Order] for the Governing of such as are visited.

This House has taken their Lordships Message into Consideration; and will appoint a proportionable Number of this House.

Brumwiche's &c. Petition.

The humble Petition of Wm. Brumwiche Constable' John Everett, &c. was read:

And Everett was called in; and did aver the Petition: And thereupon Robert Barkesdale, and John Walrond, are ordered to be summoned to appear here on Wednesday next, to answer the Complaint expressed in the Petition.

Privilege to Petitioner to Parliament.

The humble Petition of Sylvanus Kighley, Ensign to Lieutenant Colonel Carew Knight, One of the Reformado Officers, who by Order of this House were ordered to be paid, was read.

That John Jones Knight-marshals-man, who, at the Suit of One Geo. Greenhaugh, for a pretended Debt of Fourteen Pounds, arrested Sylvanus Kyghley, Ensign to Lieutenant Colonel Sir Mathew Carew Knight, One of the Reformado Officers; who, by an Order of this House, had the Privilege of Parliament to go and come freely till the Money was paid; and, at the Time of the Arrest, shewed the Order; which they did only not obey, but gave contemptuous and slighting Words of it, be sent for as a Delinquent.

Persons sent for.

Ordered, That Jo. Soidale, Master of the Compter in Wood-street, and Davenport, who was the Officer that did arrest Vezey (one employed by this House for the apprehending of Priests, and who likewise had a Deputation under the Serjeant's Hand, and Warrants to be executed for the Service of the House) be summoned to appear here on Wednesday Morning, to answer this their Fact.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Ro. Rich and Mr. Page;

The Lords do desire a Conference, by a Committee of both Houses, concerning some Letters received from the North; and to let this House know, that they have appointed the Earl of Warwick, instead of the Lord Admiral, to join with Two Members of this House, to take care for the Distributing of the Monies ordered to be paid monthly for Supply of the Navy.

Navy Supply.

Mr. Pyme, Sir H. Mildmay, are appointed to be joined with the Earl of Warwick, for taking care for Distributing of the Monies for Supply of the Navy.

Answer to Lords.

Answer returned, by the same Messengers; that as to the First Part of the Message, this House will send Answer by Messengers of their own; and as to the Second Part, they have appointed Two Members of this House to join with the Earl of Warwick, to take care for Distributing of the Monies ordered to be monthly paid for Supply of the Navy.

Innovations in the Church.

Mr. Pym reports the Addition to the Ordinance, presented to the House on Wednesday last, concerning the Abolishing of Innovations in the Church.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Ro. Rich and Mr. Page;

The Lords do find that the Day is far spent, and late; and desire now to rise: And not having heard from this House an Answer of the Conference desired, they intend to sit this Afternoon at Four of Clock; and desire this House would sit this Afternoon, if it may stand with their Conveniency; and that the Conference may be then.

Answer returned, by the same Messengers;

House to sit.

This House has taken their Lordships Message into Consideration; and do resolve to sit this Afternoon at Three of Clock; and to give then Answer of the Conference.

Ordered, That the House sit this Afternoon at Three of Clock.

Innovations in the Church.

Upon the Question, Whether this Word "Deprave" shall stand in the Addition, brought in from the Committee, to the Ordinance for abolishing Innovations;

And thereupon it was Resolved, upon the Question, That the Question for the Assent to the Addition to the Ordinance should not be put first.

Resolved, upon the Question, That this Addition shall be recommitted to the same Committee, upon the whole Matter, without crossing the former Votes of this House: And are to meet on Wednesday at Two post meridiem, in the inner Court of Wards.

Mr. Pym, Mr. Martin, Serjeant Wilde, Sir Tho. Barrington, Sir Anth. Irby, Sir Simonds D'Ewes, are appointed Reporters of this Conference.

Publick Thanksgiving.

Resolved, upon the Question, That the publick Thanks-giving shall be celebrated To-morrow, at Lincolne's Inn Chapel: And Mr. Solicitor is intreated to provide, that the Gates be kept locked; and that none come in but Parliament-men.

Leave of Absence.

Mr. Crue has Leave to go into the Country, notwithstanding his Engagement to be here on Wednesday next.

Prayer on Publick Thanksgiving.

This House doth Declare, That the Bishop of Lincolne had no Power to set forth any Prayer, to be read at the Time of the publick Thanksgiving: and that no Minister ought to be enjoined to read the said Prayer: And therefore this House is of Opinion, and doth so Order, That the said Prayer be not read, either in the Liberties of Westminster, or elsewhere: And that That Prayer be taken into Consideration on Wednesday Morning next: And that a Conference be desired with the Lords thereupon, at that time.

Stepney Lecture.

The humble Petition of the Parishioners of the Parish of Stepney, in the County of Midd', was read: And

It is Ordered, That the Parishioners of Stepney shall have Power to set up a Lecture, at their own Charge, every Sunday, at Seven a Clock in the Forenoon, and Two a Clock in the Afternoon: And holds it fit, the Lecture, there, on Thursday, be still continued.

Habeas Corpus to Prisoners.

Ordered, That the Petitions of the Prisoners be recommended, from this House, to the Lord Keeper, to grant Habeas Corpuses as hath been heretofore used, in Cases of the like Nature, and as by the Law he may do; taking into his Consideration this Time of Infection.

Prisoner discharged.

Ordered, That Antho. Lorraigne, now Prisoner in the Gaol at Southampton, being committed upon Suspicion of being a Priest, upon the Information of one Rich. Deane, who had a Warrant from this House, for the Apprehending of Priests, be forthwith discharged, notwithstanding the said Commitment; this House being informed, by several Members there, that the said Mr. Lorraigne is no Priest, nor ever was out of this Island, and is not Twenty-one Years of Age.

Poll-money.

Ordered, That the Report, concerning the Review of the Assessing and Collecting of the Poll-money, be presented on Wednesday Morning.

Adjournment.

The House doth adjourn itself till Wednesday at Eight a Clock.

Smyth's Deeds, &c.

Ordered, That Mr. Smyth shall have forthwith delivered unto him the Deeds, Lease, and other Writings, brought in by him, either to the Committee of Three, or remaining in the Custody of the Clerk of this House, to make use of in Chancery: Provided that the said Mr. Smyth bring into this House the said Writings, when he shall be thereto required.
