PRAYERS.

Collection for Western Counties.

ORDERED, That, at the next publick Fast ap- pointed to be observed on Tuesday next, a Collection shall be made, in the particular Churches wherein that Fast shall be observed, and the Monies collected forthwith paid over, by the respective Churchwardens or Collectors, unto Mr. Bond and Mr. Ashe, to be employed for the Relief of divers Persons of the Western Counties, that labour under great Necessities.

Essex Committees.

Resolved, &c. That Mr. Samson Sheffield, Mr. Joachim Mathewes, Mr. Sam. Feyborne, and Mr. Eusebius Wright, be added to the several and respective Committees of the County of Essex.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Sir Hen. Worseley shall have the Leave of this House to go into the Country.

Yorke Committee.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Mathew Boynton, Sir Rich. Darley, Colonel John Lambert, Mr. Edw. Haldamby, Mr. Rob. Johnson Clerk, Sir Tho. Maleurer, Sir Wm. St. Quin- ton, Mr. John Alured, Mr. St. Nicholas, Mr. Jo. Wast- hall, Mr. Jo. Anlaby, shall be indemnified and saved harmless for what they have done as Committees in the County of Yorke, and in the Town and County of the Town of Hull: And that they be added to the several and respective Committees.

Allowance to Lister.

Upon the Letter from my Lord Fairefaxe, from Yorke, of July 21, 1644, recommending the Condition of Sir Wm. Lister, ruined and undone by Prince Rupert's Forces; and, upon the Petition of Sir Wm. Lister; it is Ordered, That Sir Wm. Lister shall have a convenient Allowance for his Support and Subsistence: And that it be referred to the Committee for the North, where Sir Tho. Wid- drington has the Chair, to examine and consider of his great Losses; and to report their Opinions, what they think to be a fitting Allowance for his Support; and whence to be had.

Sir Martin Lister is added to this Committee.

Trial of Hotham.

A Letter from my Lord Fairefaxe, from Yorke, of Au- gust 2, 1644, concerning the Trial of Mr. Jo. Hotham, was this Day read; but nothing done upon it, till the House receive from the Lords their Answer to the Ordi- nance for Martial Law.

Message to Lords.

Sir H. Mildmay is appointed to go to the Lords, to desire them to expedite the Ordinance for Martial Law; and to desire them, that all the Members and Assistants of the Lords House may take the National Covenant; and to acquaint them, that this House would not suffer any Member to sit in the House, till they took the National Covenant; and that Justice may be done upon such as shall refuse to take it.

Wilts, &c. Association.

An Ordinance for associating of the Counties of Wills, Somersett, Dorsett, Devon, and Cornewall, the Counties and Cities of Bristoll, Exeter, and Town and County of Poole, and putting them into a Posture of Defence, was this Day read the Third time; and afterwards, upon Debate, ordered to be . . . . Fourth time: Which accordingly was read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence by Mr. Strode, on Monday Morning next.

Payment to Frost.

Resolved, &c. That Three hundred Pounds shall be forthwith borrowed, by this House, of the Committee at Haberdashers Hall, and payed to Mr. Walt. Frost, Secretary to the Committee of both Kingdoms: And this House doth undertake to make Repayment of the same.

Message to Lords.

Sir Hen. Hildmay likewise carried up the additional Names of the Committees of Essex and of Yorke; the Ordinance concerning the Ten thousand Pounds out of the Excise, forborn by the Merchant Adventurers; the Ordinance for the Allowance of the Auditors of the Ex- cise, and their Clerks Fees. He is likewise to put the Lords in mind of passing the Instructions for the County of Gloucester.

Exiles from Western Counties.

The humble Petition of divers Gentlemen, Ministers, and others, exiled and driven out of the Western Counties, was this Day read; and nothing further done upon it.

Western Committees.

Concerning the Committees to be chosen for the West- ern Counties * * * *.

Allowance to Faulcon- bridge, &c.

It is this Day Ordained, by the and Commons, That Thomas Faulconbridge and William Bond, Esquires, shall have Allowance made unto them, for the Service they have done in the Account of Excise for the Time passed, besides Consideration for their Clerks, after the Rate of Five hundred Pounds per Annum to each: And . . . it be referred to the Committee for Excise, to consider of settling an Allowance upon them for the future; and to consider of an Allowance to be given to the Auditors Clerks for the Time passed, and for the future.

Sir Hen. Mildmay brings Answer, that the Lords will send an Answer speedily by Messengers of their own, to all the Parts of the Message he carried up.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Serjeant Whittfield and Mr. Page;

The Lords do desire a Conference, if it may stand with the Conveniency of this House, presently, in the Painted Chamber, concerning the Ordinance of Martial Law. Both Houses having appointed a Committee of Lords and Commons to meet and consider of the Re- ception of the French Resident, that the Lords met this Morning, but none of this House coming, their Meet- ing was fruitless; and do desire that Committee may meet this Afternoon, at Three of Clock, in the Painted Chamber. They do agree to the Ordinance concerning Ten thousand Pounds for Sir Wm. Waller, out of the Excise; to the additional Committees for Essex; to the Ordinance for Pay to the Excise Officers; and do desire to put this House in mind of the Ordinance concerning Creation Money.

Martial Law.

Ordered, That this House doth consent to give a pre- sent Meeting at a Conference concerning Martial Law, as is desired.

French Resident.

Ordered, That the Committee of this House, appointed to consider of the Reception of the French Resident, do meet with the Committee of the Lords this Afternoon, at Three of Clock, in the Painted Chamber.

Creation Money.

Ordered, That the Ordinance concerning Creation Mo- ney be read, on Wednesday Morning next, peremptorily: And that Mr. Speaker put the House in mind hereof.

Answer to Lords.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; That this House has considered their Lordships Message; and will give a present Meeting at a Conference, as is desired; and have appointed the Committee of this House to meet the Committee of the Lords, concerning the Reception of the French Resident; and will take the Ordinance concerning Creation Money into speedy Consideration; and will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Irish Affairs.

Ordered, That Sir Arth. Hasilrig do make Report from the Committee of both Kingdoms, concerning the Busi- ness of Munster, on Monday Morning next, peremptorily: And that Mr. Speaker put the House in mind hereof.

London Militia.

Upon Mr. Solicitor's Report from the Committee of both Kingdoms;

Resolved, upon the Question, That Two thousand Pounds shall be secured to the Militia of the City of Lon- don, to enable them to continue their Forces at Abbington, to be paid unto them out of the Monies that come in upon the Excise, next after the Twenty thousand Pound formerly secured unto them out of the Excise is paid.

This Ordinance was sent up unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Forces, &c. for the West.

Resolved, upon the Question, That a further Party shall be forthwith sent to join with that Party already sent into the West.

Resolved, That it be recommended to the Committee of both Kingdoms, to take care that this Party be sent with all Speed.

Resolved, &c. That the Lords Concurrence be desired herein.

Resolved, &c. That it be recommended from this House, to the Committee of both Kingdoms, to take care to send away this further Party with all Speed.

Mr. Scawen, Mr. Prideaux, Mr. Nicoll, and Mr. Ashe, are appointed to go into the City to the Lord Mayor and the Committees there, to use all Diligence in providing of Monies for the present Service of the West: And they are, likewise, to go to the Commissioners of Excise, to see what Monies may be had from thence.

Conference.

Mr. Ellis, Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Prideaux, are appointed Reporters of the last Conference desired by the Lords.

Thompson's Petition.

A Message from the Lords, by Serjeant Whitfeild and Mr. Page;

That they have received a Petition from Colonel Francis Thompson, of whose faithful Service to the State the Lords are well satisfied; and are sorry for the sad Condition he is in; and do desire this House to think of some Way for his speedy Relief.
