Appointment of Sheriffs.

RESOLVED, &c. That this House doth nominate and approve of Richard Barrenger, Esquire, to be Sheriff of the County of Bucks: And that the Commissioners of the Great Seal of England do issue a Commission to him to be Sheriff of the said County, accordingly.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth nominate and approve of William Trumbull to be Sheriff of the County of Berks: And that the Commissioners of the Great Seal of England do issue a Commission to him to be Sheriff of the said County, accordingly.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of John Elliott Esquire to be Sheriff of the County of Cornwall: And that the Commissioners of the Great Seal of England do issue a Commission to him to be Sheriff of the said County, accordingly.

Fee Farm Rents.

Ordered, That, on Saturday next, the first Business, the Ordinance concerning Fee Farm Rents be reported.

Answer from Lords.

Sir Walter Erle brings Answer, That the Lords do agree to the Directions and Instructions to Colonel Hamond, touching the Safety of the Person of the King: To the Vote for dissolving the King's Household: To the Order for acquainting the Scotts Commissioners with the Resolution of the Houses, touching the Sending of the Propositions to the King.

Sheriffs Accompts.

Resolved, &c. That the Accompts of the several Sheriffs of the respective Counties shall be passed in the Exchequer, without any Fee to be paid by the Sheriff.

It is further Ordered, That the Committee formerly nominated for easing the Charge of the Sheriffs be revived: And that they do consider, How, to the most Ease of the Subject, the Sheriffs may bring in their Accompts, and receive Discharges; and how the Charge of passing their Accompts may be borne out of the publick Revenue: And likewise, to consider, How Sheriffs may be discharged of the old Debts in the Viscomtell, in the great Roll, in the Pipe, and old Seizures: And they are to prepare an Ordinance or Ordinances to these Purposes with all Speed: And all the Lawyers of the House are added to this Committee: And the Care of it is more particularly referred to Mr. Thorpe and Mr. Fowell.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edward Leech and Mr. Page;

The Lords have commanded us to deliver unto you this Minute of a Letter to be sent to Colonel Hammond: In which they desire the Concurrence of this House; and that it may be signed by the Speakers of both Houses: They desire to put you in mind of the Matter of the last Conference, That you will take it into speedy Consideration, as much conducing to the Affairs of the Army, and the Settlement of the Kingdom:-A List of the King's Servants to wait upon him; wherein they desire the Concurrence of this House:- These Three Papers; which they thought fit to communicate unto you; and desire they may be referred to the Committee of Lords and Commons for the Agents of London:-An Ordinance for the Relief and Employment of the Poor, and the Punishment of Vagrants, and other disorderly Persons; in which they desire the Concurrence of this House: A Petition of Sir Francis Willoughbie: Another of Captain Swaine's: Which they desire you to take into Consideration.

Letter to Hammond.

The Minute of the Letter to Colonel Robert Hammond, now sent from the Lords, was read; and, upon the Question, assented unto; and ordered to be signed by the Speakers of both Houses.

King's Servants.

The List of the King's Servants, now sent from the Lords, was read: And

It is Ordered, That it be committed to the Members of this House that are of the Committee of the Revenue, and those that were late Commissioners appointed to reside with the King, to consider of it, and of the Debate of the House hereupon; and to report To-morrow Morning.

Willoughby's Claims.

The humble Petition of Sir Francis Willoughby Knight, now sent from the Lords, was read: And

It is Ordered, That the Sum of Seven hundred Pounds be charged upon the Moiety of the Receipts at Goldsmiths Hall, not engaged in Course, and paid unto Sir Francis Willoughby, or his Assignee, for the Relief and Supply of the extreme Necessities of his Lady and Children.

Swayne's Petition.

The humble Petition of Captain Francis Swayne, of the City of York, was read: And

It is Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Northern Association, to examine the Truth of the Matter of Fact set forth in the Petition; and to consider of it; and report their Opinions upon it to the House.

Poor, &c.

Ordered, That the Ordinance, now sent from the Lords, for Relief and Employment of the Poor, and the Punishment of Vagrants, and other disorderly Persons, be read on Friday Morning, the first Business.

Cooke's Arrears.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Three Counties of Oxon, Bucks, and Berks, to consider, How an Arrear of Pay due to Captain George Cooke, upon his Entertainment in the Service of the Parliament, as appears by a Debenture, signed by the Earl of Essex, may be speedily paid unto him, for the Relief of his great Necessities.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; That this House has considered their Lordships Message: And do agree to the Minute of the Letter to be sent to Colonel Robert Hammond; and that it be signed by the Speakers of both Houses: And to the rest, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Payment to Mauleverer.

Upon a Report this Day made from the Committee of the Northern Association, to whom the Petition of Sir Thomas Mauleverer was referred;

It is Ordered, That the Sum of One thousand Pounds be charged upon the Receipts of the Excise, in Course, with Interest for the same, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Cent. payable every Six Months: And that the said One thousand Pounds, and Interest, be paid, upon Account, unto Sir Thomas Mauleverer, in Part of his Pay due upon his Entertainment in the Parliament Service.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for taking the Accompts of the Kingdom, to receive, state, and certify the Accompts of Sir Thomas Mauleverer Baronot: And they are to certify his Accompts by this Day Month.

Merchant Adventurers Loan.

It is this Day Ordered, That the Governor of the Merchant Adventurers, or his Deputy, do forthwith call a Court, and there propound to that Company the Loan of Ten thousand Pounds for the present Service of the Parliament: And that it be offered for the Security, so much out of the Twenty thousand Pounds now charged on the Excise, for the Eastern Association, as shall reimburse them, with Interest for the same, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Cent.: And that an Ordinance shall be made them for their Security, out of that Money; the said Money being offered by Consent of the Eastern Association.

Army Loan.

Ordered, That the Committee formerly appointed to procure the Sum of Twenty thousand Pounds for the present Service of the Army, do take care of this Business; and more particularly Mr. Bedingfield.
