Prayers.

Privilege-Reproachful Words by a Member.

MR. Carew Ralegh, a Member of this House, according to his Summons, attended the House; And, in his Place, made an ingenious Confession of some passionate Words by him spoken on Wednesday last, upon the Provocation of William Howett: and craved Pardon of the House, with an humble Submission to the House therein: And then withdrew.

Mr. John Goodwyn reports the Passages between Mr. Carew Ralegh and Wm. Howett at the Committee touching the Fens: And the rest of the Members present at the said Committee, did also make a Narrative of the Proceedings therein to the House.

Resolved, That Carew Ralegh Esquire, a Member of the Parliament, be committed Prisoner to the Tower, there to remain during the Pleasure of the Parliament, for his Misdemeanor at the Committee for the Fens, on Wednesday the Fifteenth of this instant May, by reproachful Words, and violent Carriage, towards Wm. Howett, attending that Committee, upon a Business then in Agitation before that Committee.

Mr. Carew Ralegh was called in to the Bar: And, kneeling there, Mr. Speaker delivered this Judgment against him, That he shall be forthwith committed to the Tower, there to remain during the Pleasure of the Parliament.

Ordered, That it be referred to a Committee, to examine the Matter of Fact touching the Carriage and Behaviour of William Howett towards the Committee for the Fens, and the Members thereof: Viz. to Colonel Popham, Sir Henry Vane, Colonel Harrison, Mr. Bond, Colonel Thompson, Mr. Burrell, Colonel Purefoy, Mr. Goodwyn, Mr. Smyth, Mr. Allen, Colonel Rich, Colonel Downes, Sir Wm. Armyn, Mr. Corbett, Mr. Fagg, Major Lister, Mr. Reynolds, Colonel Marten, Mr. Henry Darley, Mr. Garland, Sir Wm. Masham, Colonel Bossevile, Mr. Richard Darley, Mr. Say, Sir Richard Lucy, Colonel Ludlow, Sir Gilbert Pickering, Mr. Long, Alderman Atkins; or any Five of them: And this Committee are to meet this Afternoon at Two of Clock, in the Exchequer Chamber: And this Committee have Power to send for Parties, Papers, Witnesses, Records: And Mr. Say to take care of it.

Invalid Soldiers.

A Letter from the Treasurers for sick and maimed Soldiers, of the Thirteenth of May 1650, was this Day read.

The Engagement.

Sir Henry Myldmay reports from the Council of State;

"That the Council of State, having Occasion to confer with the Treasurers at Goldsmiths Hall, do find, that one of them, viz. Mr. Waring, hath taken the Engagement: and that the other, viz. Mr. Herring, hath not taken the Engagement; by reason of which the Council conceives, that the Publick Service, in that Place, receives some Prejudice: Which they have thought fit to offer to the Consideration of the House: And Sir Henry Mildmay is desired to make this Report."

Invalid Soldiers, &c.

Ordered, That the Five thousand Pounds formerly ordered for Potter's List, be forthwith paid, out of the Receipts of Goldsmiths Hall, unto the Treasurers for sick and maimed Soldiers, to be distributed according to the last Order.

Treasury at Goldsmiths Hall.

The Question being propounded, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take into Consideration this Business concerning the Treasury at Goldsmiths Hall; and to present their Opinions to the House, what is fit to be done therein:

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

It passed in the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put; It was

Resolved, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take into Consideration this Business concerning the Treasury at Goldsmiths Hall; and to present their Opinions to the House, what is fit to be done therein.

Potter's List.

Ordered, That it be referred to a Committee, to take Potter's List into Consideration; and to state the whole Business; and how unduly it was procured; and the true State of it; and the Abuses therein; and report their Opinions, what is fit to be done therein, to the House.

Masham; or any Five of them; and to sit in the Exchequer Chamber at Two of the Clock To-morrow in the Afternoon; and so de die in diem: With Power to send for Persons, Witnesses; and what else may conduce to this Business: And the more particular care hereof is referred to Mr. Reynolds.

Waggoners.

Ordered, That it be referred to the same Committee, to take the Report of the Waggoners into Consideration; and to state the Matter of Fact; and report it to the House.

Gamull's Bequest.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Commissioners of Goldsmiths Hall, to examine the Business touching the Five hundred Pounds given by Thomas Gamull, deceased, for erecting a Free School; and which by Ordinance of Parliament, was paid to Sir Wm. Brereton, for the Service of the Commonwealth; and to be repaid out of the Estates of Delinquents within the Parish of Audlin in the County of Chester; and to certify the State of the Matter of Fact to the House: Which Sir Wm. Brereton, is to report to the House This-day-sevennight.

Sufferers by Fire.

Ordered, That the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England, be and are hereby, impowered and authorized to grant out a Brief for a Collection in the City of London, and the Liberties thereof, for Relief of Thomas Blashfield, Thomas Bryan, Wm. Caswell, John Kendall, John Wems, Wm. Clerke, Philip Christian, and Matthew Billing, for their great Losses sustained by Fire on the Ninth of February last past.

Propagating the Gospel.

Ordered, That the Act for the better Propagation and Preaching of the Gospel, and Advancement of Learning, in the County of York, be read This-day-sevennight.

Colchester Ministers.

Ordered, That the Bill touching Maintenance of Ministers in Colchester, be read This-day-sevennight.

Publick Fast.

Sir Wm. Masham reports An Act setting forth the Grounds and Reasons for appointing the Thirteenth Day of June next a Day for Publick Fasting and Humiliation. Which was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed to the same Committee that brought it in: And all that come to have Voices: And the Committee are to meet this Afternoon at Two of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber: And they are to bring it in on Tuesday Morning, the first Business.

The House, according to former Order, adjourned itself until Tuesday Morning next, Eight of Clock.
