Prayers.

Settling the Government.

THE House this Day proceeded in the Debate adjourned Yesterday, upon the Act touching the Government.

The Question being put, That Leave be given to speak to the Clause of the Bill now in Debate, as to any Addition or Alteration;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

Sir Wm. Strickland, Tellers for the Yeas: 83.
Colonel Jones, With the Yeas,
Sir Rich. Onslow, Tellers for the Noes: 92.
Colonel Birch, With the Noes,

So it passed with the Negative.

Resolved, That, before the Oath be administered to the Council, these Words be added; viz. "which Oath shall be as followeth."

Resolved, That, instead of these Words, "these Qualifications," these Words be inserted, "the aforesaid Qualifications."

Resolved, That, instead of these Words, "null and void," these Words be inserted, "void, and of none Effect."

Resolved, That, after the Word "Debt," these Words be added, "Bill, Plaint."

Resolved, That, in the Fifth Chapter, after the Word "Council," these Words be added, "hereby to be constituted."

Resolved, That, in the Tenth Chapter, the Word "the" be inserted, instead of the Word "a."

The Question being propounded, That Leave be given to debate, whether any Addition or Alteration in the Four-and-thirtieth Chapter be made;

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

The House was divided.

The Noes went forth.

Major Tolhurst reports from the Committee for the Affairs of Scotland, A Clause to be inserted into the Bill, touching the Qualifications of such Persons as shall elect, or be elected, in Scotland: Which was twice read.

The Question being put, That this Clause reported be committed;

It passed with the Negative.

Resolved, That this Clause reported be Part of the Bill.

Ordered, That the House be resolved into a Grand Committee on this Day Sevennight, touching the Equality of the Assessments.
