Wednesday, the 16th of November, 1653.

Sheriff of Surrey.

RESOLVED, That Anthony Smith shall be discharged from being Sheriff for Surrey for the Year ensuing.

Resolved, upon the Question, by the Parliament, That John Parker of Rigate, Esquire, be, and is hereby nominated and approved of to be, Sheriff of the County of Surrey: And that the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England to issue a Commission to him to be Sheriff of the said County, accordingly.

Assessments.

The House this Day proceeded in the Debate Yesterday, upon the Bill for Assessments.

Resolved, That John Selliard do stand as a Commissioner for the County of Kent.

The Question being put, That Mr. John Gorges shall be a Commissioner for Somersetshire for the Monthly Assessment;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

Hitcham's Charities.

Mr. Bennett reports Amendments to the Bill for Settling and Confirming of the Manors of Framlingham and Saxted, in the Counties of Suffolk, &c. devised by Sir Robert Hitcham Knight, and late Serjeant at Law, to certain charitable Uses: Which were agreed: And the Bill, so amended, was ordered to be ingrossed.

Nomination of Sheriffs.

Ordered, That Henry Pigott Esquire, named and approved of to be Sheriff of the County of Bedford, be permitted to dwell out of the said County, at his usual Habitation; he attending and discharging the Duty of his Office.

Resolved, That Sir Wm. Sidley Baronet be discharged from being Sheriff of the Counties of Cambridge and Hunt', for the Year ensuing.

Resolved, upon the Question, by the Parliament, That William Fisher Esquire be, and is hereby nominated and approved of to be, Sheriff of the Counties of Cambridge and Hunt': And that the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England do issue a Commission to him to be Sheriff of the said County, accordingly.

Carteret's Estate.

Colonel Clerk reports from the Committee of the Army;

ACCORDING to an Order of Parliament, of the Seventh of November instant, referring to this Committee's Consideration the Petition of Dr. Philip Carteret; and to report their Opinions thereupon to the Parliament; This Committee have taken into Consideration the Substance of the said Petition: And being well satisfied of the constant Affections and Service of the Petitioner to the Parliament, testified also in a Letter from the General and Officers of the Army in Ireland (hereunto annexed), do humbly offer it, as their Opinions, if the Parliament shall think fit, in regard of the Petitioner's Service to the Commonwealth, and his Interest and Title in the Estate of his Father, as being his Son and Heir, That Francis Carteret, of the Island of Jersey, Father of the Petitioner, may be admitted to compound with the Commissioners at Haberdashers-Hall, at the Rate of Two Years Value for his Real Estate:

And that, upon the Ascertaining of his said Fine, the Two hundred and Fifty Pounds, which he affirms to have been paid in the said Island by the said Francis Carterett to Colonel Haines, since the Reducing thereof, be, upon due Proof of the same, allowed in Part of the said Fine; and that, upon Payment of the Remainder thereof in to the Treasury here, the said Francis Carteret be discharged: And the said Commissioners at Habedasher's-Hall be hereby authorized and required to compound with the said Francis Carteret, and give him his Discharge, accordingly.

Resolved, That the House doth agree with the Committee, in this Report; and that Francis Carteret, of the Island of Jersey, Father of the Petitioner, be admitted to compound with the Commissioners for Compounding, at the Rate of Two Years Value for his Real Estate: And that, upon the Ascertaining of the said Fine, the Sum of Two hundred and Fifty Pounds, which he affirmed to have been paid in the said Island by the said Francis Carteret to Colonel Haines, since the Reducing thereof, be, upon due Proof of the same, allowed in Part of the said Fine: And that, upon Payment of the Remainder thereof into the Treasury here, the said Francis Carteret, be discharged: And the said Commissioners at HaberdashersHall are hereby authorized and required to compound with the said Francis Carteret, and give him his Discharge, accordingly.

Resolved, That the said Francis Carteret be admitted to compound with the said Commissioners for Compounding, at the Rate of a Tenth for his Personal Estate: And that the said Commissioners do admit him to compound for the same, accordingly.

Hereford Minister.

Resolved, That Richard Harrison be appointed and settled Minister in the City of Hereford, in the Place and Stead of Ralph London, deceased.

Pembry Minister.

Ordered, That Wm. Baldwick be, and is hereby appointed and settled, Minister of Pembry in the County of Kent.
