Saturday, 3d December, 1653.

Naval Appointments.

MR. Sadler reports from the Council of State, That the Parliament be humbly moved, That Major General Desborow, and Vice-Admiral Pen, may be appointed to be Two of the Generals of the Fleet; and that they may be joined in a Commission with General Blake, and General Monck.

Resolved, That the House doth agree to this Report, That there be Four Generals at Sea.

Resolved, That Major-General Desborow be one of the Generals at Sea.

Resolved, That Vice-Admiral Pen be one of the Generals at Sea.

Resolved, That Two shall be of the Quorum.

Admiralty.

He also reports, A Bill for constituting Commissioners for Ordering and Managing the Affairs of the Admiralty and Navy: Which was this Day read the First and Second time.

Resolved, That General Robert Blake be one of the Commissioners for the Admiralty and Navy.

Resolved, That General George Monck be one of the Commissioners for the Admiralty and Navy.

Resolved, That General John Desborowe be one of the Commissioners of the Admiralty and Navy.

Resolved, That General Wm. Pen be one of the Commissioners of the Admiralty.

Mr. John Carew, being the next Name in the Bill, to be put to the Question; and, being present, made it his humble Request to be excused herein.

The Question being put, That John Carew Esquire do stand in the Bill as one of the Commissioners;

The House was divided.

The Yeas went forth.

Resolved, That Colonel John Clerk be one of the Commissioners of the Admiralty and Navy.

Resolved, That John Stone Esquire be one of the Commissioners of the Admiralty and Navy.

Resolved, That Edward Horsman Esquire be one of the Commissioners of the Admiralty and Navy.

The Question being put, That John Langley Esquire shall be one of the Commissioners in this Bill;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That Major Wm. Burton be one of the Commissioners of the Admiralty and Navy.

Resolved, That Vincent Gooking Esquire be one of the Commissioners of the Admiralty and Navy.

Resolved, That Lieutenant-Colonel Kelsey be one of the Commissioners of the Admiralty and Navy.

The Question being put, That the Quorum in this Act shall be Five;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That the Quorum be Three.

The Question being put, That there be more Commissioners added in this Bill;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That the Time for the Continuance of this Act, shall be Six Months from this Day.

And the Question being put, For ingrossing this Bill;

It passed in the Negative.

And the Bill, being so amended, and put to the Question, passed: And ordered to be printed and published.
