Importing French Goods.
The House being informed, that there is a Ship, called the Prosperous, come into the Port of Portsmouth, laden with several French Commodities, and that there is likely to arise a Doubt upon the Law for prohibiting French Commodities, touching the Construction of the Word "imported," What shall be taken to be an Importation within the Meaning of the Act; and that there is no Reward provided by the said Act, for the Informer or Prosecutor; and that, by Reason thereof, the Offenders are likely to escape, without being prosecuted;
Ordered, That a Committee be appointed to examine the Matter of the said Information; and report the same, with their Opinions, what is fit to be done therein, to the House; and to consider of the Defects in the said Law; and to provide Remedies to prevent the same; and present the same to the House.
