Mary, wife of Thos. Leigh, jun., begs to compound for the
delinquency of her husband, who bore arms against Parliament
only two hours, in his own house, for maintenance of the possession thereof; for this delinquency, two years ago, he was
taken by the Parliament's forces in his bedchamber, in the
suburbs of Stafford, where he was only a passenger for one
night, being on a visit to his mother-in-law. He has since been
imprisoned in Coventry, till recently exchanged for Lieut.-Col.
Rigby. |

NOTE 173 95 |
A great part of his estate was, long before the wars, granted
as jointure to his mother, who is now living; a part is
heavily charged for providing portions for her younger
children, and the small residue is sequestered, to the utter
ruin of petitioner and her children. Underwritten is a letter
from Alex. Rigby to Major Hen. Bradshaw and others, urging
despatch of her case, that neither she may be wearied with
long attendance, nor the public receive obstruction in the
ordinary way for raising of present moneys, more valuable than
greater sums in the future, for the carrying on of the great
note 173 95 work of the Kingdom. With note of an order for her to bring
in a certificate, from the County Committee. |
