20 May 1653. Order to the County Commissioners of York, Lancaster, Cheshire, and Flint, to sequester her estate, she being a delinqueut, and to certify its yearly value. | 25 | 94
May 1653? The Countess petitions the Council of State for the favour which her judges themselves at Haberdashers' Hall think she may hope for. She applies to them, Parliament being dissolved soon after her Order of 18 March last. Is a stranger, born in France, and before she was married at the Hague, it was agreed, according to the laws of those countries, that no action of her husband's or her own should deprive her children of the estate purchased with her jointure, the trustees being William and Philip, Earls of Pembroke, and Sir Hen. Vane, sen. The late Commissioners for Removing Obstructions adjudged that by these articles she should hold lands then bought and settled on her, value 24,000l., beside 14,000l. since come to her by the death of her mother and brother. When in the Isle of Man, she was not allowed to send to her husband nor to Parliament for orders; notwithstanding which yet she never opposed Parliament forces, but surrendered that castle which was her dwelling house, on the articles offered by the Parliament commissioners, "without so much as reading them over, a greater submission than which she knows not how to have given." (fn. 1) Has 4 younger children, 2 sons and 2 daughters, who have nothing to subsist on. [Signed.] | 147 | 44
