PREBEND
Church of (Great) Bedwyn (Wilts., royal manor), held by Bristoard the priest, 1086 (cf. Charminster and Bere, list 26) and by his father 1066 (DB I 65c); given to cans. by bp. Osmund 1091 (carta). Conf. by pope 26 Nov. 1146 (PUE II no. 53 p. 209).
Preb. prob. in existence by c. 1150 (Psalter list). Preb. consisted of churches of both Great and Little Bedwyn, conf. by Henry II 1158 (RSO I 203). Augmented by bp. Jocelin by c. 1170 x 1184, and obliged to find 3 mortar lights each night in cath. (RSO I 252; original ch. I/4/A-C/1; cf. HMC Var. Coll. I 340). Mill at 'Ford' and land at Stoke (par. Bedwyn) perhaps passed into preb. (Sar. Chs. pp. 215-25; cf. IV/E.1/Bedwyn/1). Compositions over tithes, 1246-7, Sar. Chs. pp. 307-12; and for further deeds see C. 267, 269, 378, 400-6.

M. Thomas de Wickhampton alias de Grano
First occ. as can., Thomas de Grano, prob. latter half of 1262, c. Nov. (cart. De Vaux fos. 41v-42r, 43r-v, cf. ibid. fo. 26r, of 21 Feb. x 1 Nov. 1262) and prob. can. when occ. 29 June 1262 (B. 400). Also called 'de Grano' 26 June 1284 (Sar. Chs. p. 363). Usually called 'de Wickhampton'. Archdcn. of Salisbury from before 18 Jan. 1275 (list 9). Occ. this preb. May-June 1284 (app. 2). No other occ. as preb. D. between Jan. 1307 and March 1309 (2 Fasti III 11).
