Preb. prob. in existence by c. 1150 (Psalter list), but not mentioned in conf. by Henry II 1158 (RSO I 203-6). Perhaps referred to before 1189 (Godfrey de Lucy, below). Preb. taken into royal hands during Interdict, valued c. 1210 (Interdict Docs. pp. 7-8, 16, 20, 27). Preb. consisted of estates and tithes etc. in Chisenbury and Chute, church of Easton (Hants, Winchester dioc.)(CRR IV no. 845), church of Winterbourne Dauntsey, Wilts. (IV/E.5/Prebend of Chisenbury & Chute/1, 3, 4).
Mentioned in suit of Martin de Summis of 1230 as having been can., so possibly this preb. (CRR XIV no. 845, and cf. below). Presum. to be identified with royal justice 1179-99 (Turner, Judiciary p. 301 and index); archdcn. of York; archdcn. of Derby (Lichfield dioc.); dean of St Martin le Grand, London; can. of Exeter, Lincoln (1 Fasti III 126) and London (ibid.
