Richard Pates B.A. 1528-1542. Archdcn. of Lincoln.

Instal. 22 June 1528 (CA 1520-36 p. 91). Accepted papal provision to bpc. of Worcester 1541; attainted for high treason 27 March 1542 and exiled (L. & P. XVII no. 28 c. 40; CA 1536-47 p. 61).

Richard Cox D.D. 1542-1547.

Compounded for first-fruits 23 May 1542 (P.R.O., E 334/2 f. 103v). Pres. by king; instit. 3 June (Reg. XXVII f. 15v). Instal. by proxy 11 June (CA 1536-47 p. 65). Preb. gr. by king 4 July 1547 to Edward, duke of Somerset (C.P.R. 1547-8 pp. 190-1).

On the attainder and d. of the duke of Somerset 22 Jan. 1552, the preb. passed to the Crown (Lords' Journals I 425) and leases of it were gr. 28 Sept. 1553 and 20 July 1569 (C.P.R. 1553-4 p. 198; C.P.R. 1566-9 no. 2188).

Sir Edward Littleton, solicitor-general, gave his opinion, n.d. c. 1637, that the Crown might present to it (Cal. S.P. Dom. 1637-8 p. 60).
