Lane, Tho. Walker, James. Petty larceny Sentence respited Hicks's Hall Free pardon. The prisoner had rooms in St. James's Palace, where he daily resided to execute an office relating to the Band of Pensioners, and had coals delivered to him to burn in these rooms, but not to sell nor purloin. He lodged at a Mrs. Neal's, who used often to come to the office and carry off coals in baskets to her own house. Continuing to do this after being reprimanded by Mr. Secker, she was carried before Sir John Fielding, where, though at first she took it wholly on herself, on further examination she owned that it was with Mr. Walker's consent that she took away the coals for his and her use in their apartments at her house. This Mr. Walker acknowledged to be true; towhich he added, "he thought it was no crime, as it had been done in a former reign." On account of his previous character the udge recommended him to mercy. 22 Mar. 14a.
