PREFACE

The present volume completes the calendering of the Inquisitions post mortem for the reign of Henry VII. The first 345 pages of the volume deal with documents of the last five years of the reign, and are followed by details of Inquisitions in a large supplementary file that covers the whole reign. Next follow the Appendices referred to in the Preface to Volume I of this series: Appendix I contains Exchequer Inquisitions, chiefly virtute officii, that are not found in the Chancery series; Appendix II a few Chancery Inquisitions which were missing when the Calendar was prepared but have since been discovered; Appendix III consists of Inquisitions ad quod damnum and others which are not Inquisitions post mortem, but were included in the Chancery series; and Appendix IV lists the Chancery Inquisitions mentioned in the ancient MS. index (P.R.O. Index 16812) which are now missing.

The text of this volume was edited and passed through the press, during the Deputy Keepership of Sir Cyril Flower, C.B., by Mr. M. C. B. Dawes, B.A., formerly an Assistant Keeper of the Public Records. The index has been compiled by Mr. A. C. Wood, M.A., also formerly an Assistant Keeper.
