	Writ, after the death of the said Thomas, who held by knight’s service of the heir of John de Insula of Rougemont, a minor in the king’s wardship. 6 October, 31 Edward III.
YORK.	Inq. taken at Harewod, Monday after the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 32 Edward III.
	Lofthous by Harewod. Certain tenements held jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives, of the heir of John de Insula of Rougemont, a minor in the king’s wardship, by homage and fealty and by service of 38s. 1d. yearly. He held no other lands &c. He died on 15 October, 30 Edward III. Robert de Thwaytes his son, aged 5 years and more, is his heir.

344.	MAUD, LATE THE WIFE OF WILLIAM LE CLERK of London, bocher.
	Writ to John Stodeye, mayor of London and escheator, 6 November, 31 Edward III.
LONDON.	Inq. Wednesday after St. Martin, 31 Edward III.
	She had no lands &c. in the bailiwick when she died. She died about Whitsunday, 23 Edward III. The jurors could not ascertain for certain who is her heir, but, as they understand, Mariota, late the wife of Richard atte More of New Wyndesore, aged 60 years, is her heir.

	Writ, 24 April, 31 Edward III.
NOTTINGHAM.	Inq. taken at Elkesleye, Tuesday after St. John before the Latin Gate, 31 Edward III.
	Tuxford. A messuage, 80a. land and 16a. meadow and 26s. rent held of the king in chief by service of a ninth part of half a knight’s fee. He held no other lands &c. in the county. Date of death not known because he died in Britanny, without the kingdom of England. Joan his sister, aged 25 years, is his heir.

346.	THOMAS, SON OF THOMAS SON OF WALTER DE APPELBY.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Thomas and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 13 February, 31 Edward III.
WESTMORELAND.	Inq. taken at Kirkby in Kendale, 4 April, 31 Edward III.
	Stirklandketell by Kirkby in Kendale. A messuage and ten acres land held of the fees late of William de Coucy in the king’s hand, by fealty and service of 3d. yearly. He died on 20 September, 24 Edward III. Master John de Appelby, his brother, aged 30 years and more, is his heir. The escheator at that time, after the death of the said Thomas, took the premises into the king’s hand and answered for the issues until the king committed the custody of all lands &c. of the fees of the aforesaid William de Coucy to Thomas de Stirkland.

347.	AGNES POWER.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Agnes and who has been in possession of her lands since her death. 8 May, 31 Edward III.
BEDFORD.	Inq. taken at Bedeford, Monday after the Ascension, 31 Edward III.
	Sutton. A messuage and 14a. arable held of the king in chief by service of 6d. yearly. She held no other lands &c. in the bailiwick. She died on Thursday the feast of SS. Philip and James, 23 Edward III. Robert, son of William Draper of Grantesden, aged 22 years and more, is her heir. The premises were taken into the king’s hand after the death of the said Agnes and lay uncultivated until Tuesday after Michaelmas, 28 Edward III, from which day Thomas Scot has been in possession of them and received the issues by demise of the king.

348.	ANDREW WYSEMAN.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Andrew, who held of the heir of Laurence de Hastynges, late earl of Pembroke, a minor in the king’s wardship. 15 March, 31 Edward III.
HEREFORD AND THE ADJACENT MARCH OF WALES.	Inq. taken at Tenebygh, Wednesday after the Annunciation, 31 Edward III.
PEMBROKE.	St. Hussild in Treberthe. A moiety of a knight’s fee held in chief of the abovenamed heir by knight’s service, doing suit monthly at the county [court] of Pembroke and rendering 16s. 4d. yearly. He holds nothing of others in the county. He died on the feast of the Conception, 22 Edward III. John Wysman his son, of full age, viz. 21 years on the feast of St. James, 29 Edward III, is his heir.

349.	RICHARD DE CORNEWAYLL, knight.
	Writ to enquire as to lands held by the said Richard other than are contained in the inquisitions taken after his death. 20 August, 31 Edward III.
SALOP.	Inq. taken at Burford, 24 September, 31 Edward III.
	He held no more lands &c. in the county on the day he died than are contained in the aforesaid inquisitions, except a moiety of the hundred of Ocveres, held of the king to himself and his heirs by the king’s charter, by service of rendering yearly 6s. 8d. by the hands of the sheriff. Geoffrey his son, aged 22 years, is his heir.

350.	JOHN HORNER or LE HORNER of Fletestret.
	Writ to Henry Picard, mayor of the city of London and escheator, to enquire whether the said John died without an heir, and, if he find that it is so, to seize the lands &c. held by him into the king’s hand and to cause them to be extended. 21 May, 31 Edward III.
	Endorsed by the escheator that, because the said John Horner had an heir, as appears by the annexed inquisition, he had not seized his tenements or caused them to be extended.
LONDON.	Inq. taken at London, 21 June, 31 Edward III.
	Fletestret, in the parish of St. Dunstan’s in the West, in the suburb of London. He had a messuage, two shops, and a garden, of which he died seised, without heir of his body. Clement le Horner, his grandfather, whose heir he was, purchased the said tenements for himself, his heirs and assigns, and died seised thereof; after his death they descended to Andrew, his son and heir, (fn. 1) and from him to the aforesaid John Horner, his son and heir, (fn. 1) and because the said John died without heir of his body the right of the said tenements fell (resortivit) to Nicholas atte Berue, brother and heir (fn. 1) of the aforesaid Clement, from whom it descended to John atte Berue, his son and heir, and from him to Alice atte Berue, his daughter and heir, who is kinswoman and heir of the said John Horner.
	Writ of diem clausit extremum to the same mayor, 26 June, 31 Edward III.
	Endorsed by him that on 6 July, 31 Edward III, he had taken into the king’s hand the said John’s tenements (as in the following inquisition).
LONDON.	Inq. taken at London, 6 July, 31 Edward III.
	Fletestrete, in the parish of St. Dunstan’s in the West, in the suburb of London. A messuage, two shops and a garden held of the king in chief in free burgage, as is the whole city of London. He held no other lands &c. in the said city. He died on Wednesday before St. Dunstan, 31 Edward III. Alice, daughter of John atte Berue, aged 10 years, is his kinswoman and heir.
	The enrolment adds a writ to the mayor not to intermeddle further with the premises, 10 July, 31 Edward III, as the said John held nothing of the king by knight’s service.

351.	JOHN EDWARD of Morton.
	Writ, 15 July, 31 Edward III.
ESSEX.	Inq. taken at Moerton, Sunday after St. Mary Magdalene, 31 Edward III.
	Moerton. A messuage, 15a. land and 1a. meadow held of the king in chief as parcel of the manor of Moerton, which is held of the king in chief by service of finding a horse, price 10s., and a sack of leather with an iron pin (chevyli) to attach the said sack in the king’s army in Wales for forty days. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Thursday in Easter week last. Richard his son, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

352.	WILLIAM DE PIKWORTH.
	Writ to enquire as to lands and heir of the said William, who held by knight’s service of the heir of Edmund, late earl of Kent, a minor in the king’s wardship, and as to who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 20 January, 31 Edward III.
LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Corby, Thursday after the Epiphany, 22 (sic) Edward III.
	He held no land &c. of the aforesaid heir. Pikworth. A chamber held of Margaret, late countess of Kent, by knight’s service. He died on Sunday after the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 23 Edward III. John, son of Robert de Saperton, his kinsman, aged 12 years, is his heir. The aforesaid countess and John Lovet have occupied the said chamber from the time of the said William’s death by reason of the wardship of the said heir, viz. the countess for half a year after the death and John Lovet from then until now, he having bought the wardship.

	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Robert, 10 July, 31 Edward III.
SALOP.	Inq. taken at Salop, 10 August, 31 Edward III.
	Rothale. Two messuages and 33a. land held of the heirs of William Bastard, late lord of Rothale, by knight’s service and by rendering 2s. yearly. He died in the pestilence now passed. Sibyl his daughter, aged 20 years and more, is his heir.

	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Robert and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 7 May, 31 Edward III.
BEDFORD.	Inq. taken at Bedeford, Monday after the Ascension, 31 Edward III.
	Sutton. 14a. arable, 2a. meadow held of the king in chief by service of 4d. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the bailiwick. He died on Wednesday after Holy Trinity, 23 Edward III. Geoffrey his son, aged 24 years and more, is his heir. The said land and meadow were taken into the king’s hand immediately after the said Robert’s death and lay vacant from that time until Tuesday after … 29 Edward III, on which day Thomas Scot took possession of them and received the profits thereof by demise of the king.

355.	WILLIAM DE WHITEWELL.
	Writ, 26 October, 31 Edward III.
DORSET.	Inq. taken at Wynterbourn Kyngeston, Tuesday after St. Leonard, 31 Edward III.
	Wynterbourn Kyngeston. The manor held in fee tail to him and Katherine sometime his wife, deceased, and the heirs of their bodies, by grant of Nicholas de Hederset, Richard de Burwode and John Penne, with remainder to William Briks of Wychyngham and his heirs, of the king in chief in free socage by service of rendering 40s. yearly by the hands of the sheriff. He died on 21 September last. Simon, son of the said William and Katherine, aged 11 years and more, is their heir.

356.	ALICE, LATE THE WIFE OF JOHN DE BELLA FAGO.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Alice and who has had possession of her lands since her death. 10 December, 31 Edward III.
HUNTINGDON.	Inq. taken at Great Stoughton, Tuesday the morrow of the Circumcision, 31 Edward III.
	Bichamstede. A messuage burnt and devastated, 183a. arable, 10a. meadow and pasture, 30a. wood and 40s. yearly rent, held of the king in chief as of the honour of Huntingdon; and a croft called ‘Greggiscroft’ held of John Dengayne at a rent of 1lb. cummin; and 6a. land held of Edmund de Cretyng. She died on 15 February, 30 Edward III. John, son of William de Bellafago, of full age, is her heir. Since the said Alice’s death Roland Daneys, knight, has been in possession of the said lands and received the issues thereof by grant of the king, as he says.

357.	RICHARD DE STONLEGH.
	Writ, 20 April, 31 Edward III.
OXFORD.	Inq. taken at Hoggenorton, 1 June, 31 Edward III.
	Hoggenorton. The manor held by him as husband of Millicent his wife, late the wife of Hugh de Plescy, who survives, who held and holds the said manor by gift of Richard de Stonlegh, to the aforesaid Hugh and Millicent and the heirs of their bodies by fine levied in the king’s court. The said manor is held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 14 March last. John his son, aged 14 years and more, is his heir.

358.	WILLIAM WARDE of Sauston, knight.
	Writ, 5 May, 31 Edward III.
CAMBRIDGE.	Inq. taken at Cambridge, Saturday in Whitsun week, 31 Edward III.
	Fulburn. The manor held jointly with Elizabeth his wife, who survives, of the king in chief by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee. Sauston. The manor held jointly with the same Elizabeth of the king in chief by service of half a knight’s fee. He died on 10 March last. John de Wrydlyngton, his kinsman, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

359.	THOMAS DE FULVORD, FOLFORDE or FULLEFORD of Cokham by Smytyng or Coukham by Somttyng.
	Writ, after the death of the said Thomas, who held by knight’s service of the manor of Wysteneston, which the king has of the gift of Roger Bavent. 28 January, 31 Edward III.
SUSSEX.	Inq. taken at Wystneston, 10 June, 31 Edward III.
	Coukham in the town of Somttyng. A messuage and 40a. land held of the king of the manor of Hien, which is in the king’s hand of the gift of Roger de Bavent, deceased, and not of the manor of Wystneston, as the writ supposes. The said tenements are held by knight’s service, but by what part the jurors know not, and by rendering 8d. yearly for sheriff’s aid. He held no other lands &c. of the king in the county. He died 20 years ago as they understand. Robert his son, who died seven years ago, was his heir and was on the day of his death of full age. Robert, now aged 16 years, is now son and heir of the said Robert.

SUSSEX.	Inq. taken at … the Annunciation, 32 Edward III. (Mutilated.)
	Hyen. A messuage, 20a. land, held of Roger de Bavent as of his manor of Hyen by homage and service of 10d. yearly. He died on 28 September, 12 Edward III. Robert de Fulleforde of full age, was then his son and heir and entered upon the premises after his father’s death and held them of the aforesaid Roger by the above services. Afterwards the said Robert died and Robert his son came, as a minor, into the wardship of the said Roger and so remained until the said Roger granted the custody of all the lands &c. which came into his hand by reason of the minority of the aforesaid heir to John Vyncent with the marriage of the said heir until the latter’s lawful age, and so from heir to heir. He held no other lands &c. in the county.

360.	NICHOLAS PLESCY or DE PLESCY, knight.
	Writ, 15 March, 30 (sic) Edward III.
NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Burton, Wednesday, 5 April, 31 Edward III.
	Burton. The manor (extent given), except a third part assigned as dower to Ida, sometime the wife of John de Plescy, knight, and a further 18a. land and rent of six bondmen assigned to the same Ida in recompense of her dower in Hethelee, co. Surrey, and except a third part of the residue of the manor assigned to Maud de Plescy, sometime wife of Edmund de Plescy, knight. The said manor is held of the king in chief by knight’s service. He died on the first Sunday in Lent last, as the jury understand. John de Plescy, his son, aged 12 years and more, is his heir.

SURREY.	Inq. taken at Hedle, 18 April, 31 Edward III.
	Hedle. 20a. arable, 10a. several pasture, 6a. wood thinned before Sir Nicholas’ death and lying ‘copys,’ and 20s. rent, held of the king in chief by service of a sixtieth part of a knight’s fee. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 31 January last, 30 Edward III, as the jury understand. Heir as above, aged ten years and more.

SOMERSET.	Inq. taken at Mulbourneport, 1 April, 31 Edward III.
	Cherleton Caunvylle. 20s. yearly rent from a free tenant held of the prince of Wales, as of his manor of Cherleton aforesaid, by service of rendering a pair of gilt spurs or 6d. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the bailiwick. He died on Wednesday before the Purification last. Heir as in the last.
DORSET.	Inq. taken at Wymbourne Mynstre on Friday before Palm Sunday, 31 Edward III.
	Up Wymbourn. 30a. land held for his life jointly with Joan his wife, who survives, of the lady of Burgh as of the honour of Leicester, by knight’s service, with remainder after the said Joan’s death to the right heirs of the deceased. Date of death and heir as last above.

361.	RALPH DE BULMER.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Ralph and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 16 February, 31 Edward III.
NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Northampton, 1 May, 31 Edward III.
	Herleston. 18d. yearly rent held of the king in chief as parcel of the serjeanty of John de Cancellis in Upton and Herleston from tenements held by Nicholas Milnere, Geoffrey Angod and John Angod in Herleston, which rent John de Bulmer, father of the deceased, long ago purchased of John de Cancellis in fee of the aforesaid serjeanty. This serjeanty in Upton with 18s. rent in Herleston the said John de Cancellis held of the king’s progenitors in chief, as of the crown, by service of finding for the king in his army a serjeant with a hauberk (habergello) for 40 days, and it is still held by the same service. Herleston. A third part of the manor (extent given) held of John de Kaynes, as of the honour of Leicester, by knight’s service. Date of death not known. Ralph de Bulmer his son, aged 16 years on All Saints day last, is his heir. One Ralph Bulmer, from the time of the death of the deceased, occupied the said lands &c. and received the profits, but by what title the jury know not.
	Writ of certiorari to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer to examine the Red Book and the Book of Fees and the rolls and other memoranda of the Exchequer and see whether the manor of Upton and the hundred pertaining thereto and 18s. rent in Herleston, co. Northampton, sometime of John de Cancella (sic), and also the manors of Fletewyk and Craule, co. Bedford, are held of the king or otherwise. 18 April, 31 Edward III.
	Endorsed: Enrolled in Easter term, 31 Edward III. Return. On examination of the rolls and memoranda of the exchequer it was thus found in the Book of Fees, co. Northampton, which book is kept in the Exchequer for evidence and not for record: John de Cancell’, the manor of Upton with the hundred pertaining thereto and 18s. rent with appurtenances in Herleston by serjeanty of finding for the king in his army a serjeant with a hauberk for forty days; and, in the same book, in the counties of Bedford and Buckingham, thus: Fletwyk and Craule Husseburn. David de Flitwyk and Nicholas Ayngrie (fn. 2) hold for one fee of the count of Aumale (de Alba Mara) and the count of the king, of the old [feoffment]. It was also found in the roll of particulars of the account of Walter de Molesworth and Henry de Praers, collectors of the aid to King Edward, grandfather of the present king, for marrying his eldest daughter, granted in the 18th year of his reign, in co. Bedford, in the hundred, to wit, of Relburstok, thus: Of David de Flitwyk and the prior of Donestaple, for a knight’s fee in Flitwyk and Husseburne, 40s. It was further found in the roll of particulars of the account of Thomas Fermebaud and Walter Blaunkfrount, collectors of the aid to the present king for knighting his eldest son, granted in the 20th year of his reign, in the said county of Bedford, in the aforesaid hundred, thus: Of the prior of Dunstaple, who holds a knight’s fee in Flytwyk and Husseburnecraule, of whom is not known, whereof David de Flittewyk, knight, holds a moiety of the same fee of John de Lyle in chief, as of the fee of the countess of Aumale (Daumarl), which David de Flitwyk and the prior of Dunstaple sometime held, 40s. Nothing else has been found in the Exchequer at present on the points suggested in the said writ.

362.	EUDO DOGET of Cumberworth.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Eudo, who held by knight’s service of the heir of Adam de Welle, late a minor in the king’s wardship, and as to who has had possession of his lands since his death. 15 February, 31 Edward III.
LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Alford, 5 March, 31 Edward III.
	Cumberworth. A messuage, 3a. arable, 1a. meadow and 1a. pasture held of the aforesaid heir by knight’s service. He held no other lands &c. in the county, as they can ascertain. He died on 7 July, 24 Edward III. Thomas his son, aged 26 years and more, is his heir. Saier de Rocheford, the escheator in co. Lincoln, after the death of the said Eudo, seized the said tenements into the king’s hand because they were held by knight’s service of John, son and heir of Adam de Welle, then a minor in the king’s wardship, and received the profits thereof to the king’s use; Thomas de Fulnetby, now escheator, from the time of the said Saier’s removal from office, has been in possession and received the issues until this day.

	Writ of certiorari as to the amount of service by which Thomas Fabel held 4l. rent in Hatfeld Peverel of the king in chief, and as to other lands held by him not mentioned in the inquisition taken on account of his death. 22 March, 31 Edward III.
ESSEX.	Inq. taken at Wytham in the hundred of Wytham, Tuesday before Palm Sunday, 31 Edward III.
	The 4l. rent contained in the aforesaid writ together with 30a. land hitherto not returned into Chancery, whereof the said Thomas died seised, are held of the king in chief by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee. Thomas Maundeville and William Fabel have been in possession of the premises from 1 March, 27 Edward III, until now.

364.	WILLIAM SON OF SIMON of Comberworth.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said William, who held by knight’s service of the heir of Adam de Welle, a minor in the king’s wardship, and as to who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 28 January, 31 Edward III.
LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Alford, 8 March, 31 Edward III.
	Cumberworth. A messuage, 3a. arable, 1a. meadow and 1a. pasture held of the above heir by knight’s service. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 8 July, 24 Edward III. Hugh his son, aged 22 years and more, is his heir. Saier de Rocheford, escheator in co. Lincoln, after the said William’s death seized the said tenements into the king’s hand because they were held of a minor in the king’s wardship by knight’s service, and during the whole time he was escheator occupied them and received the profits thereof to the king’s use; as did Thomas de Fulnetby, the present escheator, from the time of the said Saier’s removal from office until this day.

365.	ALICE, LATE THE WIFE OF RALPH DE BULMER.
	Writ, 12 May, 31 Edward III.
NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Northampton, 16 May, 31 Edward III.
	Herleston. 18d. rent held of the king in chief as parcel of the serjeanty late of John de Cancell’ in Upton and Herleston, receivable yearly from tenements held by John le Taillour and Henry Dyve in Herleston. The said rent John de Bulmer, father of Ralph, husband of the deceased, long ago purchased of John de Cancell’ in fee, of the aforesaid serjeanty, and died seised thereof. This serjeanty in Upton and rent in Herleston John de Cancell’ held of the king’s progenitors, as of the crown, by service of finding for the king in his army a serjeant with a hauberk for 40 days and it is still so held. After the death of John de Bulmer the aforesaid Ralph as his son and heir entered upon the said rent and gave it, together with 38s. 6d. rent, 12 messuages, 106a., 5 1/2 virgates land, 12a. 3r. meadow, 5a. pasture, a third part of three messuages, one mill, two virgates land, 1lb. pepper and 1lb. cummin in Herleston, Heyford, Brynghton, Colyntre and Brokhole and the advowson of a third part of the church of Heyford to Edmund de [Re]ynel, parson of the church of Bryngton, and Richard de Dincotes, parson of the church of Scalby, and afterwards, by fine levied in the king’s court at Westminster on the quinzaine of Michaelmas, 14 Edward III, before John de Stonore and his associates, the said Edmund and Richard granted the aforesaid lands &c., including the said 18d. rent, together to the aforesaid Ralph and Alice and the heirs of their bodies. Ralph died seised thereof in the lifetime of Alice his wife, and she held them for life. The aforesaid lands &c. except the 18d. rent in Herleston, are held of John de Keynes by knight’s service, and he holds them of the honour of Leycestre. She died on Wednesday after Holy Trinity, 30 Edward III. Ralph, son of the said Ralph and Alice, aged 15 years and more at his mother’s death, is their heir.

366.	MARGERY, LATE THE WIFE OF JOHN TOREL.
	Writ, 8 February, 31 Edward III.
SUSSEX.	Inq. taken at Bebiton, 3 April, 31 Edward III.
	Bebiton. A moiety of the manor (extent given) held for her life by gift of John Torel, sometime her husband. The extent includes 9l. yearly rent issuing from ‘le Estcourt’ there from the heirs of William Basset or those holding the aforesaid court, payable within nine days after Hokeday and nine days after Michaelmas in equal portions [as] by a composition made of old by the ancestors of John Torel and William Basset more fully appears. The said tenements are held of the heir of John de Orrebi, a minor in the king’s wardship, by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee. She died on 26 December last, as the jury understand. Thomas Torel her son, aged 24 years and more, is her heir.

	Bebyton. A moiety of the manor (extent given) held for her life by gift of John Torel, formerly her husband. The extent includes a wood the pasture of which is worth 3s. 4d. from Hokeday to the Gules of August, rents of free tenants 53s. 4d., and a rent of 9l. issuing from a moiety of the manor of Estcourt which was William Basset’s, payable twice a year within nine days after Hokeday and after Michaelmas, as appears by a composition made of old between the ancestors of John Torel and William Basset, as the jury understand. The said tenements are held of the heirs of John de Orreby and John Bernak, minors in the king’s wardship, by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee. She died 29 December last. Heir as above. She held no other lands in Sussex.

367.	HUGH, SON AND HEIR OF PETER PRILLY.
	Writ, after the death of the said Hugh, who died a minor in the king’s wardship. 14 October, 31 Edward III.
NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Little Okleye, 6 November, 31 Edward III.
	Little Okleye. A messuage, 180a. land, 6a. meadow, 53s. rent, 10a. wood came into the king’s hand, and are still there, by reason of the said Hugh’s minority. The said tenements are held of the king in chief by knight’s service. The said wood is worth nothing because it lies within the king’s forest of Rokyngham and no profit can be made of it without the king’s licence. There are no other lands &c. of the said Hugh’s inheritance in the county. He died about the feast of St. Peter’s Chains last. William Prilly his brother, aged ten years and more at Easter last, is his heir.

368.	HUGH COKHEVED of Barton.
	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Hugh and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 29 March, 31 Edward III.
LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Barton, Monday before SS. Philip and James, 31 Edward III.
	Appelby. A ruinous messuage and a bovate of sandy land held of the king in chief by knight’s service. No one has occupied them since the said Hugh’s death, but they have been lying empty. Barton. A messuage held jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives, of the heirs of Henry de Bello Monte by knight’s service. Barowe. A carucate of land held jointly with the same Margaret of William de Broklesby, clerk, by knight’s service. Robert Gasson of Keleby and Margaret his wife, sometime the wife of the aforesaid Hugh, have occupied the messuage in Barton and the carucate of land in Barowe from the time of the said Hugh’s death and taken the profits because the aforesaid Margaret had been enfeoffed jointly with Hugh of the said tenements. He died on the feast of St. James, 25 Edward III. John Cokheved his son, aged 16 years, is his heir.

369.	SIMON DE DRAYTON, knight.
	Writ, 18 June, 31 Edward III.
HUNTINGDON.	Inq. taken at Overton Longevyll, Tuesday after SS. Peter and Paul, 31 Edward III.
	Botilbrigg. The manor, with its appurtenances in Overton Longevyll, held for his life jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives, of Robert Gymyles of Stachesden by service of a sore sparrowhawk or 2s. yearly, with successive remainders, after the said Margaret’s death, to Baldwin, son of John de Drayton, and Alice his wife and the heirs of their bodies, Gilbert, brother of Baldwin, and the heirs of his body, and the right heirs of Simon. Mellesworth. The manor held for his life jointly as above, of Christiana de Lyndeseye by service of a pair of gilt spurs yearly, with remainder after the said Margaret’s death to the right heirs of Gilbert de Lyndeseye. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 31 May last. John de Drayton his son, aged 40 years and more, is his heir.

NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Drayton, Thursday after the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 31 Edward III.
	Drayton. The manor (extent given) held jointly with the abovesaid Margaret, by fine levied at York in the octave of Trinity, 15 Edward II, between the said Simon de Drayton and Margaret his wife, complainants, and Robert le Peyntour, chaplain, deforciant, whereby the said Simon acknowledged the said manor to be the right of the said Robert, and the latter granted it to the said Simon and Margaret to hold of the king for their lives. Brixstok and Lufwyk. Sixteen messuages, a mill, seven tofts, 493a. land, 8a. meadow, 50a. wood, 4l. 4s. rent and a rent of 16 capons held jointly with the said Margaret, by fine levied at Westminster on the quinzaine of St. Michael, 29 Edward III, between William, parson of the church of Conyngton, John de Sulgrave, parson of the church of Langeport, and John de Ryngestede, parson of the church of Horpol, complainants, and the said Simon and Margaret, deforciants, whereby the said Simon acknowledged 313a. land and 50a. wood of the aforesaid tenements to be the right of the said William, John and John, and 180a. land, the meadow and rent to be the right of the said William; and the said William, John and John granted to the said Simon and Margaret all the aforesaid tenements for their lives. The manor of Drayton is held of the king in chief by knight’s service; the aforesaid 313a. land and 50a. wood of the king in chief … by service that every acre thereof shall render yearly 4d.; and the residue of the aforesaid tenements are held in chief of the abbot of Peter[borough] and the earl of Gloucester by service of fealty and suit of court at the leet of each of them twice a year. 370.	MARGARET, LATE THE WIFE OF MATTHEW FITZ HERBERT or HERBERD.

WILTS.	Inq. taken at Cherleton by Hungreford, 1 September, 31 Edward III.
	Chiriton. A fourth part of the manor held for her life of the king in chief by knight’s service. The said fourth part, under the name of a messuage and a carucate of land, ought to revert to Edward de Sancto Johanne ‘le Neveu.’ She held no other lands &c. in the county. She died on 21 July last. John de Cobeham of Chessebury, aged 30 years and more, is her heir.

WILTS.	Inq. taken at Marlebergh, Saturday after St. Bartholomew, 31 Edward III.
	Churghton. A messuage, a carucate of land and 26s. 8d. rent held for her life of the king in chief by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee, which tenements the said Matthew and Margaret had jointly by feoffment of Walter Pye to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of Matthew. She died on 21 July last. Heir not known. Margaret, aged 14 years, and Elizabeth, aged 9 years, daughters and heirs of Reynold Fitz Herberd, brother and heir of the said Matthew, are the next heirs of the said Matthew.

SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Winchester, Monday before St. Peter’s Chains, 31 Edward III.
	Wolfreton. The manor, with the advowson of the church, held of the king in chief by knight’s service, to herself and the heirs of the bodies of the said Matthew and herself, with reversion to Edward de Sancto Johanne ‘le Neveu’ and his heirs by virtue of a fine levied in the king’s court. There are no heirs of the bodies of the said Matthew and Margaret. She held no other lands &c. in the county. She died on 21 July last.

371.	JOHN, SON OF ROGER DE CALSTON.
	Writ, 26 June, 31 Edward III.
WILTS.	Inq. taken at Canyngges Episcopi, Tuesday after St. Laurence, 31 Edward III.
	Calston. A messuage, a mill, a carucate of land and 3s. rent held jointly with Eleanor his wife, who survives, of the king in chief at fee farm, rendering 58s. 4d. yearly by the hands of the sheriff; which tenements they had by gift of Robert, parson of the church of Calston, and Thomas Power, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of John. A mill, a virgate of land, a plot of meadow and a plot of pasture called ‘Roghenhulle’ held jointly as above of the parson of the church of Calne, as of the right of his church, by service of 20s. yearly and suit at the said parson’s court at Calne twice a year. He died on Friday before St. Peter’s Chair last. John, son of the said John and Eleanor, aged 14 years at the Nativity of St. John the Baptist last, is his heir.
