408. JOHN, SON OF NICHOLAS DE GLENFELD.
Commission to William de Burgh, clerk, Robert de Kegworth, Richard de Foxton and Robert Peteman of Barwe to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said John and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 8 July, 32 Edward III.
Mandate of the commissioners to the sheriff of Leicester to find 18 jurors on Saturday after St. James. Kegworth, Wednesday the eve of St. James, 32 Edward III.

LEICESTER. Inq. made at Leicester, Saturday after St. James, 32 Edward III.
Glenfeld. Four messuages, five virgates of land and a mill, called ‘Dantevill fee,’ held by knight’s service of William de Ferrariis, son and heir of Henry de Ferrariis, a minor, in the wardship of lady Philippa queen of England by the king’s grant, the said Henry having held the manor of Groby of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Glenfeld. The manor held of the same William, as of his manor of Groby, by service of 1lb. pepper, 1lb. cummin and 1d. yearly and coming to his court of Groby once a year.
Rothele. 40s. yearly rent held of the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England by service of 12d. and coming to his court of Rothele twice a year.
Groby. A messuage and 1 1/2 virgates of land held of the aforesaid William de Ferrariis by service of 13s. 4d. yearly and coming to his court of Groby twice a year.
Little Glen. The manor held of Hugh de Glen by service of 4 1/2d. yearly.
Sitheston. Maud de Holand, of whom Nicholas, father of the deceased (the deceased being his heir), held 10 messuages and 10 virgates of land in Sitheston by knight’s service, died on Whit Sunday, 23 Edward III, at Bagworth, holding a third part of the manor of Shepeshed of the king in chief by knight’s service, and for that reason all her lands and fees were taken into the king’s hand, and while they were in the king’s hand the said Nicholas died, viz. on Wednesday after Trinity, 23 Edward III, John son of Nicholas being then 16 years of age; and the latter, seised of the said lands, &c. in Sitheston, died shortly before the feast of St. Bartholomew in the same year, the lands &c. of the said Maud being still in the king’s hand.
Baldwin, brother of the said John son of Nicholas, aged 14 years on the feast of SS. Simon and Jude last, is his heir.
Eustace de Whiteneye, knight, and Baldwin de Whiteneye, clerk, had possession of the premises in Glenfeld, Groby, Rothele and Little Glen after his death for a year and a half and received the issues. Robert de Holand, knight, had possession of the premises in Sitheston for the same time. Queen Philippa seized all the premises by reason of the minority of Baldwin, brother and heir of the deceased, because the wardship of the heir and the custody of the lands of Henry de Ferrariis were in her hand; and afterwards Simon de Kegworth and Richard Raven, to whom she granted the wardship of the said Baldwin, entered the premises and are still in possession.
The deceased held no other lands &c. in the county.

Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Philip, and who has had possession of his lands in Lobethorp and Northwythum since his death. 3 May, 32 Edward III.
LINCOLN. Inq. taken at Corby, Thursday after St. Matthew, 32 Edward III.
Lobethorp. A croft, a carucate of land, 30a. wood, and 5s. rent in the same town and its members, held of the archbishop of York by homage and service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee.
He died on 22 August, 23 Edward III. Philip his son, aged 16 years, is his heir.
Robert Ray of Lobethorp has been in possession of the premises since the death of the deceased and has received the issues.

410. JOHN LE KNYGHT of Wyverton.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said John, and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 26 May, 32 Edward III.
NOTTINGHAM. Inq. taken at Shelford, 2 June, 32 Edward III.
Wyverton. A messuage and a bovate of land held of the king in chief by knight’s service as of the honour of Peverel.
He died in the pestilence now past. John his son, aged 24 years and more, is his heir.
John Bret, knight, has been in possession of the premises since his death and has received the issues, by what title the inquisition is ignorant.
The deceased held no other lands &c. in the county.

SUFFOLK. Inq. taken at Hennowe, 28 February, 22 (sic) Edward III.
Fakenham Magna. 3a. land held of the king in chief by service of 1/4d. yearly for ward of Norwich Castle.
He died on Thursday in Easter week, 23 Edward III. David Gilboun, aged 45 years, is his heir.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.
The sheriff and escheator of Suffolk has been in possession of this land and has charged himself therewith at the Exchequer.

Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Walter and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 1 March, 32 Edward III.
DEVON. Inq. taken at Barnastapol, [13 March] (fn. 1) 32 Edward III.
Wolvysnymet. A carucate of land held by knight’s service of John, son and heir of John de Clavyle, who held of the heir of Hugh le Dispenser, who held of the king in chief, who was lately in the king’s wardship by reason of his minority.
Kentisbury. A carucate of land and 28s. rent held of Hugh de Courtenay, earl of Devon, by knight’s service.
Kanneworth. 4s. rent held of the same Hugh by knight’s service.
He died on Monday before St. Peter’s Chains, 26 Edward III. Richard le Wolf his son, aged 9 years and more, is his heir.

413. STEPHEN BROKEDISSH or DE BROKEDISCH.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Stephen and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 26 June, 32 Edward III.
NORFOLK. Inq. taken at Nedham, Thursday after SS. Simon and Jude, 32 Edward III.
Brokedych. A cottage, 10a. land and 1a. wood held of Roger Bigot, sometime earl of Norfolk and marshal of England, by service of 2d. yearly.
He died about 50 years ago at a time when the barony of Roger Bigot was in the king’s hand through his death; by reason of the minority of the said Stephen’s heir the then escheator took the premises into the king’s hand, and the escheator has been in possession ever since and has charged himself with the issues in his account at the Exchequer. Katherine and Alice his daughters, aged 60 years and more, are his heirs.

GLOUCESTER AND THE MARCH OF WALES ADJACENT. Inq. taken at Magor, 24 October, 32 Edward III.
Magor in Netherwent. 49s. 4d. rent of free tenants and 19s. 11 1/8d. rent of bondmen and a court held jointly with Elizabeth his wife, who survives, to them and the heirs and assigns of the said John, of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Penho. The manor held jointly as above, of the countess Marshal, as of the lordship of Chepstowe Castle in chief, by knight’s service and by doing suit at the court of the said castle every four weeks.
Wyduston. The manor held jointly as above, of Peter de Cusanse, as of his manor of Langston in Wales, by knight’s service.
Porskewet. The manor held of the aforesaid countess Marshal, as of her lordship of Chepstowe, in chief by knight’s service.
Salusburi. The manor held of the countess of Clare, as of the lordship of Castle Kayrlion, in chief by knight’s service.
He held no other lands &c.
He died on Tuesday before St. Mark last. Roger his son, aged 18 years, is his heir.

415. JOHN DE SANCTO MAURO.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said John and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 1 October, 32 Edward III.
NORTHAMPTON. Inq. made at Tichemersh, 24 October, 32 Edward III.
Tichemersh. A messuage and a virgate of land held of the heir of John Lovel, who held of the king in chief, a minor in the king’s wardship, by knight’s service.
Herdewyk. A messuage and two virgates of land held of the heir of Laurence de Hastynges, earl of Pembroke, who held of the king in chief, a minor in the king’s wardship, by knight’s service.
He died in the pestilence now past. The king has had the profits of the aforesaid tenements since his death by the hands of Richard Blundell, then escheator, and by Walter Ples and William de Fililod, afterwards escheators, who have answered for the same. John de Sancto Mauro his son, of full age, is his heir.

416. THOMAS, SON OF THOMAS SNODDYNG.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Thomas and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 20 August, 32 Edward III.
WESTMORELAND. Inq. taken at Appelby, Monday after St. Peter’s Chair, 32 Edward III.
Nateby. A messuage and 30a. land and meadow held of the heir of Robert de Clifford, who held of the king in chief, a minor in the king’s wardship, by homage and service of 12d. yearly for cornage.
He died on 12 September, 23 Edward III as they understand. Alice his daughter, married to Robert de Martendale, who was 18 years of age at the time of her father’s death, is his heir and still survives. The said Robert and Alice received the profits of the premises, as her right, from the time of the death until 10 May, 23 Edward III, when the escheator took them into the king’s hand.

417. SOROMUNDA, LATE THE WIFE OF RICHARD LE SELERE.
Writ, 5 June, 32 Edward III.
DEVON. Inq. taken at Exeter, Wednesday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 32 Edward III.
La Bore. A messuage &c., 24a. land and 1/2a. meadow held for life of Master Robert de Grymeston by service of a double rose yearly at Midsummer, by demise of the said Robert and of one Geoffrey Gilberd; the reversion belongs to the said Robert and Geoffrey and the heirs of Geoffrey. Geoffrey died nine years ago and Robert survives. William Gilberd, son and heir of Geoffrey, is of full age.
Soromunda died on Thursday before the first week of Lent last without heir.

418. JOHN DE NANTON.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said John and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 30 January, 32 Edward III.
ESSEX. Inq. taken at Colecestre, 6 March, 32 Edward III.
Leyre del Haye. The manor, except the wood of Chestwode, held jointly with Agnes his wife, since married to Thomas Bretoun, by gift of Hugh de Nanton of Alderton, father of the deceased, to the said John and Agnes and the heirs of their bodies, rendering yearly 20l. for the life of the said Hugh. The manor is held of the king, as of the honour of Boulogne, by knight’s service, except 15s. 2d. rent in Southbenflete, Thunderle and Reylegh and except a moiety of a knight’s fee in Stratford held of the said manor by John de Stratford, which are held of the earl of Northampton, as of the honour of Reylegh, service not stated.
He died on 6 May, 23 Edward III. Edward, son of the said John and Agnes, aged 11 years and more, is his heir.
The aforesaid wood is in the king’s hand by reason of the death of the said John and the minority of the said Edward, and the aforesaid Thomas Bretoun and Agnes have been in possession of the manor, except the wood, since the death of the deceased until now in virtue of the aforesaid gift.

419. KATHERINE DE LONDON.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Katherine and who has been in possession of her lands since her death. 20 February, 32 Edward III.
ESSEX. Inq. taken at Reyndon, 28 May, 32 Edward III.
Great Perndon. A third part of the manor, with a third part of the advowson of the church, held of the king as of the honour of Boulogne, by service of a third part of a knight’s fee; and 17a. arable in Estfeld, 16a. land in Farnhullefeld, 2a. land in Southfeld, 3a. meadow in a meadow called ‘Nyneacres,’ 3a. meadow in Westmade, 1a. meadow in Magishelmade and 1a. meadow in Pyotmade, held in demesne as of fee of the abbot and convent of Byleye by homage and fealty and by service of 16d. and a third part of 2d. yearly.
She died about the feast of the Invention of the Holy Cross, 23 Edward III. Heir not known.
From the day of her death Edmund Rose had possession of all the premises by the king’s grant at a rent of 100s. a year until a year and more ago, when the king directed Thomas de Chabham, the sheriff, to reseize all the premises out of the hand of the said Edmund for default of payment of the rent, since when the premises remain in the custody of the sheriff.

Tuxford. 6a. land and 6a. wood all thrown down and wasted held of Thomas de Bekeryngge by service of 3s.
He died on Thursday the feast of the Invention of the Holy Cross last. Elizabeth his sister, aged 40 years and more, is his heir, married 30 years ago to Thomas de Meryng.

NORFOLK. Inq. taken at Stanhouwe, 29 June, 32 Edward III.
Stanhouwe. A messuage, 100a. land by the lesser hundred and 13s. 4d. rent, and 15 autumn works and four hens at Christmas, held of the king in chief by service of keeping a ‘bercell’ at the king’s costs, receiving 18d. a week.
He held no other lands.
He died on 8 June last. William his son, aged 24 years and more, is his heir.

423. NICHOLAS, SON OF WILLIAM GAMAGE.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Nicholas and who has been in possession of his lands since his death. 1 February, 32 Edward III.
GLOUCESTER. Inq. taken at Leye, Monday after St. Nicholas, 32 Edward III.
He held no lands in the county or in the March of Wales adjacent of the king in chief.
Nether Leye. A third part of the manor of Wezebury (extent given) held of John de Penbrugge in chief by service of rendering a pair of gloves, price 1d., yearly on Christmas day.
He died on Wednesday after the Purification of the Blessed Mary, 23 Edward III. His daughters, Margery, aged 22 years and married before that to John Byllyng, Joan, aged 16 years at the time of her father’s death and married after that to Hugh Arthour, and Elizabeth, then aged 7 years and married to John fitz Hugh of the county of Bedford, are his heirs.
Hugh Arthour received the issues of the premises for two years after the death of the said Nicholas, and after that until now John Byllyng and Hugh Arthour have been in possession of two parts of the premises in right of their wives; the third part belonging to Elizabeth she gave at the end of the aforesaid two years to Thomas de Wauton, who has been in possession thereof and has received the issues until now.

SALOP. Inq. made at Grete, Saturday after SS. Peter and Paul, 32 Edward III.
(Unspecified.) Two messuages and a nook (nocata) of land held of the heir of Margaret de Cornubia by knight’s service and by service of rendering 2s. 10d. yearly.
He died on Monday after the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 26 Edward III. His daughters, Margery, Agnes and Isabel, aged 23 years, and Alice, aged 11 years, at the time of their father’s death, are his heirs; they entered the premises after their father’s death and levied the profits as his daughters and heirs.

426. JULIANA CARBONEL.
Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Juliana who held of the heir of Margaret de Cornubia (as in the last), and as to who has been in possession of her lands since her death. 6 June, 32 Edward III.
SALOP. Inq. made at Lodelowe, Friday the feast of SS. Peter and Paul, 32 Edward III.
Asshford Carbonel. A messuage and a carucate of land held of the heir of Margaret de Cornubia by knight’s service. John de la Mare gave the said messuage and land to the said Juliana and Hugh Carbonel, formerly her husband, and the heirs of their bodies. Thomas Carbonel their son, aged 50 years and more at the time of his mother’s death, is their heir.
She died on Sunday after St. Augustine, 26 Edward III. The aforesaid Thomas entered the premises after his mother’s death and levied the issues and took possession as her son and heir.
She had no other lands &c.

427. JOHN, SON OF THOMAS DE ROOS, of Kendale.
Writ, 13 November, 32 Edward III.
CUMBERLAND. Inq. taken at Carlisle, 10 January, 32 Edward III.
Cargou. The manor and town, held of the king in chief by homage and fealty and by service of rendering 2s. 8d. yearly for cornage at the exchequer of Carlisle by the hands of the sheriff.
He had no other lands &c. in the county.
He died in the month of July, 31 Edward III, exact day not known. Elizabeth his daughter, aged 2 years and more, is his heir.
The premises were taken into the king’s hand on 10 May, 32 Edward III, because the escheator found by an inquisition taken in virtue of his office that Margaret de Roos, who held the premises of the king in chief, alienated them in fee, without licence, to Richard de Preston in the time of Edward I, and Richard de Preston alienated them in fee to Thomas de Ros, knight, who alienated them to John de Ros, his son, now deceased, whose heir is a minor; and for that reason the premises are still in the king’s hand and in the custody of the escheator. Thomas de Stirkland, knight, received the issues of the said manor and town from the time of the death of the said John son of Thomas de Ros until the aforesaid 10 May, 32 Edward III.
(Both writ and inquisition are in duplicate, except that in one writ he is described as of Kendale and not in the other.)

MIDDLESEX. Inq. taken at Westminster, 15 November, 32 Edward III.
Heyndon. A tenement called ‘Hodeford’ held for life by way of dower after the death of Henry le Scrope, formerly her husband, of the abbot of Westminster by service of 1d. yearly; tenements called ‘Durrehames’ similarly held for life of the same abbot by service of a rose yearly at Midsummer.
She died on 17 October last. Richard le Scrope, knight, aged 30 years and more, is her son and heir.
She held no other lands in the county.

A messuage, 170a. land and 10a. meadow held by way of dower after the death of Henry le Scrop, formerly her husband, of Eleanor, formerly the wife of John de W[odhull], of the manor of Langeford, by service of a twelfth part of a knight’s fee, 2s. 6d. rent and 9d. for ward of the castle of Rokingham. The manor of Langeford is in the king’s hand.
Clifton, 7a. meadow held of the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England by service of 6d. yearly, and 2a. meadow held of the abbot of Warden by service of 4d. yearly.
Holm. Half a virgate at la Forth held of the manor of Langeford aforesaid by service of 3s. yearly; a parcel of a messuage held of Sir John de Moubray by service of 2s. yearly and a parcel held of Lady Elizabeth de (sic) Latymer by service ……, yearly; ………… of the Bishop of Lincoln by service of 5s. 1d. yearly; [at Shortflat] of Richard Talbot ……… at his court of Alricheseye once a year; 6a. land of Thomas de Estoun ………

429. WILLIAM DAUBERNOUN or DABERNOUN, knight.
Writ, 20 March, 32 Edward III.
DEVON. Inq. taken at Teyngton Drew, Thursday after St. George, 32 Edward III.
Teyngton Drew. The manor held of Hugh de Courteney, earl of Devon, by homage and fealty and doing suit at his court of the honour of Okampton every three weeks.
He died on Tuesday before the Conversion of St. Paul last. His daughters Elizabeth, wife of William Croyser, of full age, and Margaret her sister, aged a year all but a week, are his heirs.
Writ, 30 January, 32 Edward III.
SURREY. Inq. taken at Stoke Dabernoun, Saturday before St. Gregory, 32 Edward III.
Hedlegh. 8s. rent, parcel of the manor. The manor is held of the king in chief by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee and is now in the king’s hand by reason of the minority of the son and heir of Nicholas de Plesy, who held it of the king in chief. The said rent is held as parcel of the manor by service of a twentieth part of a knight’s fee.
Stoke Dabernoun. The manor (extent given), including a water-mill and a fulling-mill and avesag’ [sic averag’] from tenants at Michaelmas worth 2s. a year, held of the heirs of Hugh le Despenser, as of the honour of Clare, by service of one knight’s fee.
He died on 26 January last. His daughters, Elizabeth Croyser, aged 18 years, and Margaret, aged half a year and more, are his heirs.
Apse. He held 26s. 8d. rent issuing from the manor of Apse, but the jury know not of whom the manor is held.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.

NORTHUMBERLAND. Inq. taken at Baumburgh, Wednesday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 32 Edward III.
She held no lands in fee simple in the county.
Elyncham. A waste messuage, 14 tofts, 169a. land, whereof six tofts and six husbandlands, each containing 24a., are in the hands of tenants at will and cottars rendering 35s. 4d. yearly, and the remaining tofts and lands lie waste and uncultivated, 16a. meadow and 20a. wood of oaks; held conjointly with Robert, son of Robert de Clifford, lately deceased, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder in default of such heirs to the right heirs of Robert de Clifford the elder, having been so given with the king’s licence dated 5 May, 35 Edward I. They are held of the king in chief by homage and by service of a sixteenth part of a knight’s fee.
She had no other lands &c. in the county or elsewhere.
She died on 28 March, 31 Edward III. John de Clifford, son of the said Robert and Elizabeth, aged 30 years and more, is the heir in tail.

GLOUCESTER. Inq. taken at Rodelegh, Thursday after St. Barnabas, 32 Edward III.
Rodeleye. The manor (extent given), including a several fishery in the river Severn (Sabrine).
Tiberton. The manor (extent given).
Both held for life of the grant of Sir Henry, late earl of Lancaster, with reversion to the grantor and his heirs, of the king in chief by knight’s service.
He died on Thursday after the feast of St. Chad this year. Richard his son, aged 13 years, is his heir.

Denston. A messuage, a carucate of land and 5s. 1/4d. rent held of Thomas de Furnivall by service of 5s. yearly, and the carucate is let for 30s. a year.
He died on Thursday after St. Chad last. Richard de Blount his son, aged 13 years, is his heir.

LINCOLN. Inq. taken at Swaton, 24 January, 32 Edward III.
Aslakby. The manor (extent given) held of the king in chief by service of half a knight’s fee, except a piece of land called ‘le Outgang,’ which is held of the heir of John de Bello Monte by service of 2s. yearly, 24a. wood called ‘le Yougfrith’ held of Thomas de Sancto Laudo by service of 12d. yearly, two bovates and 6a. land in Greiby and Athorp and 40a. wood in Aslakby and 12s. 8d. rent in Aslakby and Athorp held of Alexander de Poynton by knight’s service, and 2d. yearly rent held of the fee of William de Albiniaco of the Castle of Beauver by knight’s service; all held of the inheritance of William de Morle, knight, son and heir of Hawise de Morle, sister and heir of John Marchall, by endowment of the last named, formerly her husband, and assigned to her by the king in his Chancery.
She had no other lands &c. in the county.
She died on 5 February, 30 Edward III. The aforesaid William de Morle, knight, aged 30 years and more, is her heir.

LEICESTER. Inq. taken at Halghton, Friday in the third week of Lent, 32 Edward III.
He died on Friday after St. Valentine, 32 Edward III.
Halghton. The manor, whereof he was enfeoffed jointly with Joan his wife, held of the king as of the honour of Peverel, by service of a third part of a knight’s fee.
Thomas Dengayne his son, aged 22 years and more, is his heir.

ESSEX. Inq. taken at Nottele Dengayne, 9 March, 32 Edward III.
Nottele. The manor held jointly with Joan his wife, who survives, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder in default of such heir to the right heirs of the said John, by a fine levied in 12 Edward II, of the countess Marshal by knight’s service.
He died on Friday after St. Valentine last. Thomas Dengayne, son of the said John and Joan, aged 22 years and more, is his heir.
HERTFORD. Inq. taken at Honysdon, 11 March, 32 Edward III.
Honysdon. The manor held jointly, as last above, of Sir John Mounbray by knight’s service.
He held no other lands &c. in the county.

BEDFORD. The escheator has taken into the king’s hand the manor of Eton and has held an inquisition there on Monday after St. Peter’s Chair, 32 Edward III.
Eton. The manor (extent given, including two water-mills) held of the king in chief by service of one knight’s fee. Long ago Roger de Bello Campo enfeoffed John Dengayne, knight, of the manor. John Dengayne gave it to Thomas de Stratton, parson of the church of Cotes, and William atte Church of Great Stoghton, who restored it to John Engayne for his life, with remainder to John Engayne, knight, his son, and Joan his wife and the heirs of their bodies and, fading such heirs, to the heirs of John Dengayne.
He died on Friday, 18 February (sic), 32 Edward III. John Dengayne, the son, being dead, William Colvile, knight, has married Joan, who survives. Thomas Dengayne, son of John Dengayne the elder, is his heir and of full age.
BEDFORD. The escheator has also taken into the king’s hand the manor of Saundeye.
Saundeye. The manor (extent given) held of the king in chief there and elsewhere (tenetur ….. ibi et alibi) for one knight’s fee. The deceased held it for life, with remainder to Thomas Dengayne, his son, and Katherine his wife and the heirs of their bodies and reversion to the heirs of John Dengayne.
John Dengayne died on Friday after St. Valentine, 32 Edward III.
Thomas Dengayne his son, aged 22 years and more, is his heir.

HUNTINGDON. The escheator has taken all the lands &c. of John Dengayne, knight, into the king’s hand and has found:—
Gidding. The manor (extent given) held for life of the king in chief, with remainders as in the last inquisition (manor of Saundeye), by serjeanty, viz. of taking the king’s foxes and other vermin in certain counties, but what counties the jury do not know.
Dilington. The manor (extent given) held jointly with Joan his wife, who survives, to them and the heirs of their bodies by a fine levied in the king’s court, of the abbot of Rameseye by knight’s service.
Grafham. A messuage, 100a. arable, 3a. meadow and 40s. rent of free tenants held of the earl of Gloucester by a sixth part of a knight’s fee.

NORTHAMPTON. Inq. taken at Bolewyk, Tuesday after the Sunday in mid-Lent, 32 Edward III.
Laxton. The manor (extent given), including a wood in the forest of Clyve, held for his life, with remainder to Thomas his son and Katherine his wife and the heirs of their bodies and, failing such heirs, to the right heirs of the deceased, by a fine levied before the justices of the Bench, of the king in chief as of the crown, by serjeanty, viz. of hunting and taking wolves, foxes, cats and other vermin.
Pyghtesle. Fourteen virgates held in demesne as of fee of the king as of the crown, as parcel of the aforesaid serjeanty of Laxton; ten virgates held by free tenants held of the abbot of Peterborough by knight’s service for a fourth part of a knight’s fee and rendering for each virgate 2s. 4d., which the abbot pays yearly to the king for ward of Rokyngham Castle, the deceased receiving nothing therefrom except two attendances yearly from each tenant at his court held there twice a year, the profits of which court are worth nothing. He held no other lands &c. in the said county or in Rutland.
