DEVON.	Inq. taken at Clouvely, Thursday before the Circumcision, 34 Edward III.
	Clovely. A moiety of the manor (extent given) held of Edward le Despenser, knight, by service of half a knight’s fee. Hele Giffard. A carucate of land held of Sir Lionel, earl of Ulster, by service of a sixth part of a knight’s fee. He held no other lands in the county. He died on 19 November last. Joan his sister, aged 40 years and more, is his heir.

GLOUCESTER.	Inq. taken at Gloucester, Monday before St. Thomas the Apostle, 34 Edward III.
	(Unspecified.) A messuage, a carucate of land and 22s. rent held of the king in chief by service of 5s. yearly. Payneswyk and Egge. Five messuages, 22a. and 2 1/2 virgates of land and 2a. wood held of Sir John de Bromwych by service of 14d. yearly rent. He held no other lands in the county. He died on 14 November last. Joan de Bukelond his sister, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.

DORSET.	Inq. taken at Bukeresweston, Saturday after the Conception, 34 Edward III.
	Bukeresweston. A messuage, dovecot, garden, two carucates of land, 20a. meadow, several from the Purification until hay time, 12a. several pasture, 20a. wood and 20s. rent held of Hugh de Courtenay, earl of Devon, as of his manor of Coker, by service of a sore sparrowhawk (spervarium sorum) yearly at the feast of St. Peter’s Chains. He held no other lands in the county. Date of death and heir as in the Devon inquisition.

597.	WALTER, SON OF WALTER DE GLOUCESTRE, knight.
	Writ, 12 October, 34 Edward III.
GLOUCESTER.	Inq. taken at Alveston, Wednesday before All Saints, 34 Edward III.
	Alveston and Erdecoke. The manors, and the hundred of Langeleye and the view of frankpledge of Langele, held jointly by the said Walter and Petronilla his wife, who survives, of the king in chief by knight’s service. Two parts of the premises and the reversion of the third part after the death of Eleanor, now deceased, late the wife of Fulk le fitz Waryn, who held it in dower, the said Walter demised long before his death to John de Ingelby, chaplain, and Robert de Briggeford, who granted the same by the king’s special licence to the said Walter and Petronilla and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to Peter Corbet of Syston and his heirs, to be held of the king in chief by the services due therefrom. He held no other lands in the county. He died on 10 July last. John de Gloucestre his son, aged 11 years on the feast of St. Peter’s Chains last, is his heir.

CAMBRIDGE.	Inq. taken at Foulmere, Thursday after the Epiphany, 34 Edward III.
	Foulmere. The manor (extent given), including 6s. 8d. for farm of a market, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. He died on Wednesday before All Saints last. John de Plays his son, aged 18 years, is his heir.
	Writ, Wodestok, 4 January, 34 Edward III.
SUSSEX.	Inq. taken at Lewes, 18 January, 34 Edward III.
	Yford, Wanynggore and Warpesbourne. The manors, with the advowsons of the churches, held of the countess of Warenne, service not known, the said Richard alienated long before his death to John de Sotton of Wevenho, knight, John de la Grave, Peter Perpound, Richard, parson of the church of Cnapeton, Robert, parson of the church of Great Ocle, Nicholas de Shirford, parson of the church of Jakeleye, and Thomas, parson of the church of Worthe, for their lives, with reversion to the said Richard and his heirs. He died in parts beyond the seas as is said on the morrow of St. Faith last. Heir as above, aged 18 years and more.

SUFFOLK.	Inq. taken at Chelesworthe, Wednesday before St. Hilary, 34 Edward III.
	Chelesworthe. The manor held jointly by the said Richard and Margaret his wife, who survives, of the gift of John de Sutton, senior, knight, and Robert Pirpound, parson of the church of Great Ocle, of the abbot of St. Edmund’s by fee farm, rendering yearly 24qrs. of wheat, 74qrs. of barley malt, 2qrs. of white peas, a carcase of a pig worth 5s., five geese, 6lb. candles, six hens, 2,500 faggots and a load of hay. Date of death and heir as in the last inquisition.
NORFOLK.	Inq. taken at Norwich, Monday after the Epiphany, 34 Edward III.
	Wetyngg and Toftes. The manors, with the advowsons of the churches of St. Mary and All Saints, Wetyngg, held of the duke of Lancaster by knight’s service, which the said Richard, long before his death, demised to John de Norwyco, John de Sutton of Wyvenho, knights, and others for their lives, with reversion to him and his heirs. Feltewell. Eight messuages, 300a. land, 8a. meadow, 60s. rent and a fishery in the water of Feltewell held of the same duke by knight’s service, which the deceased, long before his death, gave to Richard his son and the heirs of his body by fine levied in the king’s court. Knapeton. The manor and the advowson of the church held in service of Laurence Spryggey in socage by service of 1lb. cummin (semini) and 1lb. pepper. The manor, except 300a. wood and the advowson of the church of the town, and the reversion of the advowson of the church after the deaths of John de Sutton of Wevenho, knight, and Robert Perpound, rector of the church of Great Ocle, tenants thereof for the life of Richard de Plays, the said Richard, long before his death, granted to John de Plays and Margaret, daughter of Walter de Norwyco, now wife of the said John, and the heirs of their bodies, by service of 10 marks yearly to him during his life and a penny yearly to his heirs after his death: the said wood he gave to the same John and Margaret for their lives by service of a rose yearly. ESSEX.	Inq. taken at Okele, Monday before the Conversion of St. Paul, 34 Edward III.
	Great Okele. The manor (extent given), including tenants of ‘cotlond’ and a leet on the feast of St. Gregory, held of the king in chief by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. He died on 7 October last. Heir as above.
ESSEX.	Inq. taken at Bentefeldbury, Monday the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, 34 Edward III.
	Stanstede Mofichet. The manor of Bentefeldbury (extent given), including a leet on Wednesday after St. Luke, held of the king in chief by service of one knight’s fee. Date of death and heir as in the last inquisition.

NORTHAMPTON.	Inq. made at Est Haddon, 8 November, 34 Edward III.
	Est Haddon. A messuage, two carucates of land, 10a. meadow and 10l. rent, with perquisites of court worth 18d., held of Henry, duke of Lancaster, by service of half a knight’s fee. Byfeld. Six marks rent held of the same duke by knight’s service. The said John died on 24 October (sic) last. John de Sancto Andrea his son, aged 22 years and more at Michaelmas last, is his heir. He held no other lands in the county.
	Writ, Westminster, 18 September, 34 Edward III.
NOTTINGHAM.	Inq. taken at Gotham, 20 October, 34 Edward III.
	Gotham. Two parts of the manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held jointly by the said John and Juliana his wife, who survives, by gift of John de Shelton and Robert Dawe, chaplains, of Henry, duke of Lancaster, by homage, fealty and service of two parts of a knight’s fee. He died on 24 August last. Heir as above.

CAMBRIDGE.	Inq. taken at Cambridge, Friday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 34 Edward III.
	Hinxton. A messuage, 70a. land, 2a. meadow, 30s. rent and a sixth part of a water mill, held of the king in chief by service of a sixth part of a knight’s fee. Aruyngton. A messuage called ‘le Netherhalle,’ 100a. land, 2a. meadow and 30s. rent held jointly with Juliana his wife, who survives, of the countess of Clare by knight’s service and suit at her court at Royston every three weeks. He died at Gotham, co. Nottingham, on 24 August last. Heir as above.

600.	JOHN, SON AND HEIR OF MARGARET, LATE THE WIFE OF JOHN TIBETOT, a minor.
	Writ, 26 October, 34 Edward III.
ESSEX.	Inq. taken at Thaxstede, Wednesday the feast of St. Katherine, 34 Edward III.
	Thaxstede. A fourth part of the manor (extent given) including a fourth part of two parks and of two mills, held of the king in chief, service not known, came into the king’s hand by the death of John son and heir of Margaret, late the wife of John Tibetot, deceased, tenant in chief, he being a minor in the king’s wardship. William de Bohun, late earl of Northampton, had possession of the premises and received the issues until his death, by what title the jury know not. Robert de Tibetot, brother of the deceased, aged 17 1/2 years and more, is his heir.

601.	JOHN DE STIRKELAND.
	Writ, to the escheator to enquire as to the land and heir of John de Stirkeland and who has had possession of his lands since his death and received the issues. 16 May, 34 Edward III.
WESTMORLAND.	Inq. taken at Appelby, Monday after the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 34 Edward III.
	Great Stirkeland. The manor held of Sir Thomas de Tweng by service of 16s. yearly for cornage. He held no other lands in the county. He died on Thursday after the Invention of the Holy Cross, 25 Edward III. Robert de Stirkeland his kinsman, aged 16 years, is his heir. The said John, in his lifetime, enfeoffed Edmund de Nevyll, John de Salkeld, and John de Louthre of the said manor and they re-enfeoffed him and Alice his wife and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to John, son of Robert de Stirkeland, and Joan his wife and the heirs of their bodies; the latter had issue Robert above-named and other sons and daughters; John son of Robert is dead and Joan survives and is married to Thomas de Berewys; and because John and Alice died without heir of their bodies, Thomas de Berewys and Joan entered the manor and were in possession and received the issues from the time of the death of John and Alice until the manor was seized into the king’s hand by the escheator. With this inquisition are filed the writ and inquisition following:—
	Writ of plenius certiorari to the escheator in Westmoreland. The escheator having answered to a writ of certiorari super causa capcionis, concerning the manor of Stirkeland of Thomas de Berewys and Joan his wife, that he had found by inquisition taken ex officio that Margaret de Roos, tenant in chief, alienated a yearly rent of 50s. from divers tenements in Stirkeland and 2qrs. 2bus. of oatmeal from the mill there to Richard de Preston and Annabel his wife, who gave the same to John de Stirkeland, who gave it to Edmund de Nevill and John de Louthre, who gave it to the same John de Stirkeland and Alice his wife, now deceased, and that he, the escheator, had therefore taken into the king’s hand the same rent and also the manor of Stirkeland, which John de Stirkeland held of Thomas de Tweng by knight’s service, on the death of the said John, by the king’s prerogative; the aforesaid Thomas de Berewys and Joan now assert that they hold a messuage, 60a. land and 6a. meadow in Great Stirkeland, from which the aforesaid rent came, so that the rent is extinguished, and have informed the king that the premises are held of the manor of Stirkeland, which is held of Thomas de Tweng and not of the king, so that the rent therefrom ought not to be said to be held of the king, and pray that the king’s hand be removed from the manor and rent. The escheator is to enquire. 3 December, 33 Edward III.
WESTMORELAND.	Inq. taken at Appilby, Monday after Palm Sunday, 33 Edward III.
	One Richard de Laton was seised in demesne as of fee of a messuage, 60a. land and 6a. meadow in Stirkland, from which the rent of 50s. and 2qr. 2bus. of oatmeal mentioned in the writ used to come, and held them of Thomas Lang of Stirkland, as of a third part of the manor of Stirkland, by service of 2s. yearly for cornage; he alienated the said tenements to one Robert de Stirkland to hold of the chief lords by the rent aforesaid. Robert died seised of the said tenements in demesne as of fee and after his death William de Stirkland, his son and heir, entered. He gave the premises to John de Stirkland and the heirs of his body. Richard de Laton, being seised of the rent by reason of the reservation aforesaid, granted it to Margaret de Ros, who granted it to Richard de Preston and Annabel his wife, and this Richard quitclaimed it to the aforesaid John de Stirkland, who was seised of the tenements from which the rent came. Annabel after her husband’s death released to the same John all her right in the tenements and rent; by virtue of which deeds the rent became totally extinguished. Therefore neither Margaret de Ros nor John de Stirkland, nor any other, ever held the rent of the king in chief; nor are the tenements from which the rent came, nor were they ever, held of the king in chief, but of Thomas de Tweng by service of 2s. yearly for cornage and by homage.

602.	JOHN, SON OF ROLAND DE PATTON.
	Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of John, son of Roland de Patton, deceased, who held of the king by knight’s service as of the fees of William de Coucy which were lately in the king’s hand; and as to who has had possession of the same lands since the death of the said John and received the issues. 16 May, 34 Edward III.
WESTMORLAND.	Inq. taken at Appelby, Monday the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 34 Edward III.
	Sleddale. The said John held nothing of the king as of the knights’ fees late of William de Coucy, lately in the king’s hand; but he held a moiety of a sheiling (scalinge) in Sleddale of John de Coupland and Joan his wife by knight’s service, as of the lands and fees late of the said William, lately in the king’s hand, which fees and other services the king granted to the said John and Joan for their lives, and the said John son of Roland attorned to them for the aforesaid services long before his death. Patten. A moiety of the hamlet held of Roger de Gnypp by fealty and service of 2s. yearly. Whynfell. A sheiling held of the abbot of Jorevall by service of 4s. yearly. Bratheley. A tenement held of Thomas de Roos, knight, by fealty and 6d. yearly. Cruke. A tenement held of Roger de Gnypp by service of 1d. yearly. He held no other lands in the bailiwick. He died on 13 January, 31 Edward III. Roland de Patton his son, aged 36 years and more, is his heir. The said Roland was in possession of the half sheiling in Sleddale from his father’s death until he gave it to Roland de Thornburgh and his heirs, which Roland was in possession until the escheator took it into the king’s hand, asserting that John son of Roland held it as of the fee of William de Coucy, then in the king’s hand. Of the other premises Roland de Patton, the heir, has been in possession since his father’s death and has received the issues.

SOMERSET.	Inq. taken at Norton St. Philip, Friday before the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 34 Edward III.
	She held no lands in the county.

HEREFORD.	Inq. taken at Hereford, Saturday after Corpus Christi, 34 Edward III.
	Euwyas. The castle and a moiety of the lordship held of the king in chief, service not known, in the March of Wales adjoining the county of Hereford. She died on Friday after Ascension day in the year abovesaid (sic). Bartholomew de Burgherssh, son of Bartholomew and Elizabeth, aged 30 years and more, is her heir. She held no other lands in the county or March of Wales adjoining.

STAFFORD.	Inq. taken at Newcastle, Monday after the octave of Trinity, 34 Edward III.
	Bukenhale. Two parts of the hamlet (extent given) held of her own inheritance. Fenton. A yearly rent of 60s. All held of the king in chief as parcel of the manor of Alveton, which is held of the king in chief by service of one knight’s fee. She died on 1 May last. Heir as above.
	Writ to the escheator of Ireland, 12 May, 34 Edward III.
IRELAND.	Inq. taken at Dundalk, 18 June, 34 Edward III.
	Dundugyn and Balybalryk. Four carucates of land and 46a., worth, with the profits of a weir at Dundugyn and the issues of a court there, 23l. yearly, held in demesne and lordship as parcel of the manor of Dundalk of the king in chief by service of 11l. and 5s. royal service when scutage runs. Date of death not known, because the said Elizabeth died in England. Bartholomew de Burgherssh her son, aged 36 years and more, is her heir.
IRELAND.	Inq. taken at Dyuelek, 20 June, 34 Edward III.
	Dyuelek. A messuage, four carucates and 11a. arable, meadow and pasture in demesne as of fee, in demesne and in lordship (dominio) three carucates and 77a. held by tenants and burgesses, and in service 23 carucates held by tenants by royal service &c., held of the king in chief as parcel of the manor of Dyuelek by service of 46s. 8d. royal service when scutage runs. The value of the premises is 20l. a year and 46s. 8d. royal service when scutage runs.
MEATH.	Loxenedy. A fourth part of two parts of the manor, formerly worth 40l. but now nothing because destroyed by Irish felons, held of the king in chief by royal service &c. Date of death not known and heir as in the last inquisition.

604.	PETER FAUELOURE.
	Writ missing.
MIDDLESEX.	Inq. taken at Westminster, 20 October, 34 Edward III.
	Edelmeton. Tenements worth 10l. yearly held of William de Say, heir of Geoffrey de Say, a minor in the king’s wardship, by knight’s service, for what part of a fee is not known. Totenham. Tenements worth 12d. yearly held of Giles Daubeney, service not known. Enefeld. Tenements worth 6s. 8d. yearly held of Hugh Braybrok by service of rendering 4d. yearly. All held jointly by the said Peter and Adam Franceys, who survives, of the gift of John atte Berue and John Organ to them and their heirs and assigns. He held no other lands &c. in demesne as of fee or in service or for life in the county. He died on 4 October last. Gregory Faueloure, aged 40 years, is his kinsman and heir.
KENT.	Inq. taken at Sidyngbourne, 30 October, 34 Edward III.
	Tonge. The manor (extent given, including meadow in the marsh often flooded and only to be mown in dry weather and two water mills which will not grind for lack of stones and timber, and a rent of 800 eggs at Easter), except four knights’ fees belonging to the same manor, held for life of the gift of William de Boun, earl of Northampton, and Elizabeth his wife to hold of the said earl and Elizabeth and the heirs of Elizabeth at a rent of a rose yearly at Midsummer, by a fine levied in the king’s court. The manor is held of the king in chief as of the castle of Dover, which is in the king’s hand, by service of rendering 20s. every 24 weeks for guard of the said castle, and to Philippa, queen of England, at her manor of Middilton 18s. a year, to the prior of Ledes 5s. a year and to the abbot of Feveresham 13s. 4d. a year. The manor belongs to the king by the minority of the heir, Roger de Mortuo Mari, who is in the king’s wardship. The said Peter died on 3 October last. Heir as above. He held no other lands in the county.
KENT.	Inq. taken at Sidyngbourne, 16 January, 34 Edward III.
	To the same effect as the previous inquisition, except that the date of death is given as 13 October.

605.	WILLIAM DE THORNBURGH.
	Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands and heir of William de Thornburgh, deceased, who held of the king by knight’s service as of the fees late of William de Coucy, which were lately in the king’s hand; and as to who has had possession of the same lands since his death and received the issues. 16 May, 34 Edward III.
WESTMORLAND.	Inq. taken at Appelby, Monday the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 34 Edward III.
	Sleddale. A moiety of a sheiling (scalinge) which long before his death the said William de Thornburgh gave to Roland his son and Alice his wife and the heirs of their bodies, held of the fees late of William de Coucy and then in the king’s hand by knight’s service; the said Roland and Alice, who are still living, received the issues until the escheator took the said moiety into the king’s hand on the pretext that William de Thornburgh died seised thereof. Selsete. An eighth part of the hamlet. Whynfell. A moiety of the hamlet. Both held of Matthew de Redmane by knight’s service and by service of 16s. 8d. yearly. Skelmiser. Two tenements held of Roger de Leiburn, knight, by service of 1d. yearly. He held no other lands in the county. He died on Tuesday before St. Wilfred (Wulfridi), 23 Edward III. Roland de Thornburgh his son, aged 35 years and more, is his heir, and he has been in possession of the premises in Selsete, Whynfell and Skelmiser, as heir, since the death of his father.

606.	ALAN DE CHERLETON.
	Writ, 6 December, 34 Edward III.
DEVON.	Inq. taken at North Molton Sunday the feast of St. Lucy, 34 Edward III.
	North Molton. The manor (extent given, including 3 corn mills (molendina blaeretica) and a fulling mill) except the advowson of the church, held for life by the law of England, of the inheritance of Nicholas Seymour, knight, son and heir of Ellen, late Alan’s wife, to whom the reversion belongs. The manor is held of the king in chief by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee and doing suit at the king’s court at Langacre in the forest of Exemour on the morrow of the Ascension and at the king’s court of Haukrugge on Friday in Whitsun week. Blak Toryton. 1 1/2d. rent and the advowson of the church and one knight’s fee, parcel of the manor of North Molton, and held with it as above. The said Nicholas is 30 years of age and more. North Molton. A messuage and a carucate of land held of James de Audele, lord of Heyle, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee; and 2s. 6d. rent held of the aforesaid Nicholas Seymour by service of 12d. yearly. The said Alan died on Thursday before St. Nicholas last. John, son of Alan de Cherleton, aged 20 1/2 years, is his kinsman and heir.

The manors are held of the prince of Wales by service of petty serjeanty. He died on Wednesday before St. John the Baptist the year aforesaid [sic, 17 June]. 	North Barsham. The manor (extent given) held of the heirs of Andrew de Barrentyn by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee, was taken into the king’s hand after the death of Andrew Braunche, where, by reason of the minority of Thomas, his son and heir, it remains. Thomas Braunche died on Thursday after the Assumption last (sic, 20 August). Stephen de Wydeslade, son and heir of Richard de Wodeslade and Eleanor his wife, deceased, sister of Andrew Braunche, aged 30 years and more, is heir of the said Thomas.

	Pyperharuwe. The manor, held of Richard de Wyndesore by service of rendering him 6s. 8d. every 24 weeks for ward of the castle of Wyndesore and rendering to the abbot of Waverle 26s. 8d. yearly, as appears by a fine levied in the king’s court, and to John de Roule 13s. 4d. yearly, came into the king’s hand as in the writ. The said Thomas died on 20 August last, 34 Edward III. Heir as above.

	Frome in Selewode. A messuage and shop and plot of land in Crokedelane, between the shop of Robert Fourneux at the corner of Bruggestret at the end of Crokedelane and the bakehouse of Walter de Wetheresfeld in the same lane, paying yearly quitrents to St. Paul’s Church, London, 8s., to the hospital of St. Giles 10s. and to the hospital of St. James by Westminster 3s., repairs 10s. and dower to Joan, wife of the deceased, 27s. 9 1/4d.; held of the king in free burgage like the whole city. He has no heirs, nor had he any other lands &c. in the said city, so far as they can at present ascertain.
