MIDDLESEX. Inq. taken at Westminster, 12 November, 46 Edward III.
He held of the king in chief a fourth part of the office of the criers in the Common Bench, which is parcel of the office of usher of the Exchequer, for life, with reversion to John de Curemound, by grant of Christiana daughter of William Gaunt of Bynbrok, John de Croxston and Maud his wife, and Beatrice daughter of the said William Gaunt, by a fine levied at Westminster in the king’s court with the king’s licence. He held no lands &c. in the county.
He died on 28 September, 46 Edward III.

187. ADAM DE HAVERBERGE.
Writ of precipimus, 15 February, 46 Edward III.
ESSEX. Inq. (indented) taken at Rochford, Saturday in the third week of Lent, 46 Edward III.
Reylegh. A messuage, 120a. land, 5a. meadow, 4a. wood and 3s. 4d. rent, held of the king, as of the honor of Reylegh, by service of a third part of a knight’s fee. The premises are parcel of the tenements called ‘Liofstanestonfee,’ which owe common suit to the king’s hundred of Rochford.
He died at Reylegh on 5 August, 37 Edward III. John his son, aged 31 years and still unmarried, is his heir.
Immediately after his death the said John entered on the premises and received the profits therof until Easter, 45 Edward III, when he devested himself thereof by charter of feoffment in favour of William Berland, knight, who has received the profits ever since.

188. WILLIAM DE INGALDESTHORP, or INGELTHORP, knight.
Writ of precipimus, 3 December, 46 Edward III.
NORFOLK. Inq. (indented) taken at Lenn, Thursday after the Conception, 46 Edward III.
Reynham. The manor, held of the king in chief, as of the honor of Hakenet, by service of 6s. 8d. for ward of Dover castle.
Kennewyk in Tylneye. The manor, held of the prior of Leghes by service of 21 marks.
Beleassys in Ennemethe. The manor, held of the bishop of Ely, service not known.
Wymbottesham. The manor, held of the earl of Arundel by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee.
Inggaldesthorp. The manor, held of William de Congham by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee.
Before his death he enfeoffed Robert de Causton, knight, Hugh Lovet, knight, John de Howton, William, parson of the church of Estreynham, William Braunche, parson of the church of Clenchewarton, Edmund de Sancto Omero and Henry de Redgrave, clerk, of the four last-named manors, to do his will thereof. And afterwards his will and request was that they should release their right therein to the said William Braunche and his heirs, which they did. And afterwards the said William Braunche, at the request of the deceased, enfeoffed Roger de Bekham, knight, William, parson of the church of Estreynham, John Costyn, William de Barshale, Edmund de Sancto Omero and John Bartholomew. Afterwards the will of the deceased was that the said Roger and his co-feoffees should enfeoff Eleanor his wife, immediately after his death, of the manors of Beleassys and Wymbotesham for life, and grant her a yearly rent of 20l. in the manor of Kennewyk for life, and keep and maintain John his son, during the latter’s minority, out of the issues of the manors of Kennewyk and Inggaldesthorp, and enfeoff the said John, on reaching full age, of the manors of Kennewyk and Inggaldesthorp, together with the reversion of the manors of Beleassys and Wymbotesham, and, in the event of the decease of the said John while under age, sell the said manors and reversion.
The said William died on Monday after SS. Peter and Paul, 37 Edward III. John his son, aged 11 years, is his heir.
The said Eleanor has had possession of the manors of Beleassys and Wymbotesham and received the profits thereof ever since his death by virtue of the above grant. She has also had possession of the manor of Reynham, by what title the jurors know not. William, parson of the church of Estreynham, had and still has possession of the manors of Kennewyk and Inggaldesthorp, with the assent of Roger de Bekham and his co-feoffees, by virtue of a feoffment made to the said Roger and William and others by William Braunche.

189. JOHN SON OF JOHN LELY of Carleton.
Writ of mandamus, 6 May, 46 Edward III.
YORK. Inq. (indented) taken at Snayth, 31 [May] (fn. 1), 46 Edward III.
Carlton by Snayth. A messuage called ‘Marschal Place’ and 51a. land and meadow, held in fee simple of Miles de Stapilton by service of 25s. 1d.; a several pasture of 20a. called ‘Lely Pasture,’ held of the same Miles by service of 16d. yearly, of which pasture Joan his mother, who survived him, was seised of a third part of the profit as dower; and 3a. land called ‘Wyrsumland,’ held of Richard de Boynton without rent.
He died on the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, 35 Edward III. Richard his son, aged 10 years and more, is his heir. Since his death Joan his wife has had possession of the premises.

190. JOAN LATE THE WIFE OF JOHN DE LOUDHAM, or LUDHAM.
Writ (in duplicate). 16 April, 46 Edward III.
SUFFOLK. Inq. (indented) taken at Wodebrigge, Thursday before Ascension Day, 46 Edward III.
Loudham. The manor (extent given).
Great Glemham and Little Glemham. A toft, 20a. land, 1 1/2a. pasture and 2a. wood.
All held for life, with reversion to John son of Thomas de Loudham, knight, of Edmund son of Thomas de Ufford by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee.
She died on Monday the morrow of the Close of Easter last. The said John son of Thomas, who was 21 years of age at the Epiphany last, is her next heir, and heir to all the premises.
SUFFOLK. Inq. (indented) taken at Saxmondham, Wednesday after SS. Peter and Paul, 46 Edward III.
To the same effect as the above, except that (1) the premises are said to be held in joint feoffment with John de Loudham her husband; (2) John son of Thomas de Loudham, to whom the reversion belongs, is described as kinsman and heir of the said John de Loudham father of the said Thomas, and next heir both of John and Joan; and (3) the premises are said to be held by service of one knight’s fee.
NORFOLK. Inq. (indented) taken at Disse, Tuesday after Whitsun, 46 Edward III.
Frense. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held to her and the heirs of her body of Edmund son of Thomas de Ufford, knight, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee, except certain parcels which are held of Walter Fywater, knight, John de Braham, knight, and Isabel de Kertlyngg by service of 7s. 1d. yearly, suit to the hundred court of the said Walter at Disse every three weeks, and suit to the court of the said John de Braham at his manor of Heywode.
Stustone and Osmondeston. 1 1/2a. land and 8l. 5s. yearly rent, held jointly with John de Loudham, her husband, to them and his heirs, of the king in chief by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee.
Date of death as above. John son of Thomas de Loudham, age as above, is next heir of both John and Joan, both to the tenements held in fee tail and to the rent of assise.
NORFOLK. Inq. (indented) taken at Stratton Market, Friday after SS. Peter and Paul, 46 Edward III.
To the same effect as the above, except that (1) the manor is said to be held in joint feoffment with John her husband, to them and the heirs of their bodies; and (2) the land and rent in Stustone and Osmondeston are said to be held of the king in chief, services not known.

191. JOAN LATE THE WIFE OF JOHN MODESLEY, or MODUSLEY.
Writ of precipimus, 4 February, 46 Edward III.
SOMERSET. Inq. taken at Bruggewater, Friday in the third week of Lent, 46 Edward III.
Chilton. 12a. land and 12s. rent, held by knight’s service of Richard son and heir of Nicholas Seymour, as of his manor of Castelcary which is in the king’s hand by reason of his minority; and 8s. rent, held of John duke of Lancaster by service of rendering 1d. yearly.
She died on Monday before the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 36 Edward III. William Modesley is her next heir and of full age.
John Pulforth had possession of the premises from her death until Michaelmas, 40 Edward III, by virtue of the king’s writ patent at the farm therein contained; and since the latter date John Rothewell has had possession by virtue of another writ patent at the farm therein contained.

He held no lands in this liberty.

193. ROGER DE MORTUO MARI, EARL OF MARCH.
Writ of precipimus, 15 July, 46 Edward III.
OXFORD. Inq. (indented) taken at Wytteneye, 5 August, 46 Edward III.
Dokelynton. Two-thirds of the manor (extent given), held of John Plecy by knight’s service.
He died on 26 February, 34 Edward III. Edmund his son, aged 20 years on 3 February last, is his heir.
Ralph Spygurnel, knight, and John Bysshopeston, clerk, his executors, had possession of the premises without title from his death until 14 July following; and ever since then Edward Twyford, knight, and Elizabeth his wife have had possession by reason of a feoffment made long before the earl’s death to Elizabeth and Henry Dyve, her first husband, and the heirs of the said Henry.

OXFORD. Inq. taken at Bampton, 7 October, 46 Edward III.
Dokelynton. Two-thirds of the manor (extent given), held of John Plecy by service of two-thirds of two knights’ fees.
Date of death and heir as above.
Ralph Spygurnell, knight, and John de Busshupeston, clerk, the earl’s executors, had possession of the premises from the time of his death until 14 July following, without title. From the said 14 July Edward de Thwyford, knight, and Elizabeth his wife have had possession of the premises, claiming them as the said Elizabeth’s free tenement because a certain John Dyve, long before the earl had anything in the premises, enfeoffed Henry Dyve, then Elizabeth’s husband, and the said Elizabeth thereof, to hold to them and the heirs of Henry, from which Henry the earl purchased them and died seised as aforesaid. After his death, to wit, on 8 October, 37 Edward III, the said Edward and Elizabeth enfeoffed Edward le Despenser, Ralph de Ferariis, Lambert de Weston, knight, and Robert de Perlee, clerk, thereof, who on 21 December in the same year enfeoffed thereof Robert de Thwyford, John de Pavely, Edward de Thwyford, knight, and Elizabeth his wife, and Philip de Hambury, parson of the church of Dokelynton. But, notwithstanding the said feoffments, Edward de Thwyford received the issues of the premises all the time from the said 14 July until 5 August, 46 Edward III, with the assent of the said Edward le Despenser, Ralph de Ferariis, Lambert de Weston, Robert de Perlee, John de. Pavely and Philip de Hambury.

SALOP. Inq. taken at Bruggenorth, 6 August, 46 Edward III.
Cheylmersh. The manor (extent given), held of the countess of March for life by knight’s service, with reversion to Henry his son, now deceased, and the heirs of his body. The extent includes a park.
Quatte. The manor (extent given), held in fee tail of the king in chief by knight’s service. The extent includes a meadow called ‘Brodemor.’
He died on 12 July last. William son of the aforesaid Henry his son, aged 24 years and more, is his heir.
Writ to the escheator in co. Buckingham (sic), 12 July, 46 Edward III.
BEDFORD. Inq. taken at Luton, 10 March, 47 Edward III.
Luton. A third part of the manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by service of a third part of half a knight’s fee. The extent includes a leet, a horse-mill with a garden held of Thomas de Stoppesle by service of 2s. yearly, a cottage held of Thomas de Eydene by service of 14d. yearly, and 2a. and a parcel of meadow held of the heirs of Edward de Kendale by service of 3s. yearly. The said horse-mill with garden and the meadow with the cottage are charged in favour of John atte Hay with 20s. yearly for life, and the meadow and cottage are charged in favour of Thomas de Stoppesleye with 13s. 4d. yearly for life, both charges being by deed of the said Hugh.
Flitte. The hundred courts, with the leets pertaining thereto, held of the king by service of 60s. yearly to be paid to the sheriff at Midsummer.
He died on 11 July, 46 Edward III. Heir as above, aged 26 years and more. He is an idiot.
