NORTHUMBERLAND. Inq. taken at Morpath, Wednesday, 10 October, 10 Richard II.
He died seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned lands, etc.
Langehirst. 40 a. land called ‘les dymeynez’, 4 husbandlands and 4 cottages, in the hands of tenants at will, held of the barony of Bothale, services not known.
Le Aldemore. 2 husbandlands and 40 a. land, held as above.
Chivyngton. 48 a. land called ‘les dymeynez’, 4 husbandlands and 2 cottages.
Morwyk. 4 husbandlands and 4 cottages.
The premises in Chivyngton and Morewyk are held of Henry de Percy, earl of Northumberland, as of the barony of Alnewyk, services not known.
Revele. 3 1/3 husbandlands, worth no more than 13s.4d. yearly because of the destruction of the Scots, held of the same earl, services not known.
He died on 29 August last. Henry Fitz Hugh, his son, aged 23 years and more, is his heir.

CAMBRIDGE. Inq. taken at Hynton, Monday after SS. Simon and Jude, 10 Richard II.
He died seised of the under-mentioned rent.
Hynton. 20l. rent issuing from the manor called ‘Uphalle’, which manor is held for life by Richard Treton, clerk, by demise of the said Henry, the reversion belonging to Henry and his heirs. The manor is held of the queen, as of the honor of Rychemonde, service not known.
He died on Wednesday the feast of the Decollation of St. John the Baptist last. Henry Fitz Hugh, knight, aged 23 years and more, is his son and heir.

He held the under-mentioned castle, manors etc.
Ravenswath. The castle, with appurtenances, to wit, Ravenswath, Qwayssyngton and Clyntes.
Cutherston. A moiety of the manor, and of the town of Mikelton in Tesdale, together with the advowson of the church of Romaldkirk (Sancti Rumaldi) in Tesdale.
Fremyngton, Scorton, Applegarthes and Lenyng. The towns.
All held of the castle of Rychemond, which is now in the king’s hand, by knight’s service.

Kyngeston by Shorham. The manor, and the advowson of the church of that town, held of the earl of Nottingham, as of his castle of Brembre, by service of three-fourths of a knight’s fee.
Shirmanbury. The manor, and the advowson of the church of that town, held of the same earl by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee.
Talcourtays. 1/2 carucate of land, 6 a. meadow and 40 a. wood, held of William Percy, knight, as of his manor of Wodemancote, by service of 4s. yearly and 6d. yearly for sheriff’s aid and enclosure of the park of Knappe.
Berkhame in the parish of Flecchyngge. The manor, held of the duke of Lancaster, as of the honor of Laigle, services not known. Pasture for 30 cows, a bull and 40 pigs in the forest of Asshedon pertains to the said manor.
La Faune in Aldryngton. A messuage with curtilage and 40 a. land, held of the lord de Ponyngges by service of 26s. 8d. yearly; 30 a. land, held of the prior of Lewes by service of 10s. yearly; and 10 a. land, held of the lord de la Ware by service of 3s. 4d. yearly.
He died on 24 January last. Joan wife of John Sonde, knight, aged 36 years and more, is his kinswoman and heir, to wit, daughter of Agnes sister of William his father.

SOUTHAMPTON. Inq. taken at Andevere on the eve of Ascension Day, 10 Richard II.
He died seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned manors, lands etc.
Faccombe. 11 messuages, a dovecote, 2 carucates of land and 200 a. wood, with the advowson of the church, and 68s. 8d. rent of assise, held of the king in chief by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee.
Haliburne. 4 messuages, a carucate of land, 2 a. meadow, 4 a. pasture and 66s. yearly rent, held of the countess of Kent, as of her manor of Aulton, in socage, by service of 42s. yearly and suit to the court of her said manor every three weeks.
Kateryngton. The manor, held of the duke of Lancaster in chief, services not known. ‘Housbote’ and ‘heybote’ of great timber and underwood in the wood of Chalkton belong to the said manor.
Elsefelde. The manor, and the advowson of the church thereof at every second vacancy. One moiety of the manor is held in chief of the lord de St. John by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee. A moiety of the other moiety is held in socage of John Bremshote by service of 100s. yearly; and the other moiety thereof is held of Bernard Brokas, as of his manor of Bradlegh, by service of a pair of spurs or 6d.
Shirbourne. The manor, and the advowson of the chantry of the chapel of the said manor, with a rent of 10l. in Bromlegh, held of the lord de St. John by service of 12d. and an eighth part of a knight’s fee.
Winchester. 13s. 4d. rent from the tenement of John Tornour, and a garden by ‘Northgate’, held of the king in free burgage, as is the whole city of Winchester.
Ocle. 1/2 carucate of land, held of the lord de St. John.
Langstoke. 40s. rent issuing from the manor, held in chief of the duke of Lancaster, service not known.

SOMERSET. Inq. taken at Wells, 23 May, 10 Richard II.
He died seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned messuage and land.
He held the under-mentioned manor in joint feoffment with Joan his wife, who is still living, from Thomas Hakeluyght, clerk, by virtue of a fine levied in the king’s court on the morrow of All Souls, 42 Edward III, to hold to them and the heirs male of their bodies of the said Thomas and his heirs, rendering to Thomas and his heirs a rose yearly at Midsummer and doing for them to the chief lords of the fee all other services belonging to the manor; with remainder to the heirs male of Edmund’s body, and remainder over to Thomas and his heirs.
Middesomeresnorton. A messuage and a carucate of land, with a fourth part of the fair held there at Midsummer, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Shepton Malet. A manor, held of the abbot of Glastonbury by knight’s service.
He died on 20 April last. Alice West, his sister, aged 40 years and more, is his heir.

DORSET. Inq. taken at Dorchestre, 16 May, 10 Richard II.
He died seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned moiety of Mapoudre and manor of Hynton Martell.
Thomas Hakeluyt, clerk, gave the under-mentioned rent in Hynton Martell to him and Joan his wife, who is still living, and the heirs of their bodies, by the name of all the lands etc. in Chalesbury and Hynton Martell which the said Thomas had by the said Edmund’s gift.
He held the under-mentioned manors of Bere and Newton jointly with Joan his wife, for the term of their lives, by grant of John Best and John Kille, clerks, with remainder to John Colman, clerk, for life, and after his death to the right heirs of the said Edmund.
He held the under-mentioned manor of Brodemayne Martell jointly with Joan his wife, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the heirs male of his body and remainder over to Thomas Hakeluyt, clerk, and his heirs, by grant of John Weloustide, chaplain.
He held the under-mentioned rent in Wolveton jointly with Joan his wife, for the term of their lives, by grant of Thomas Hakeluyt and Adam Charles, clerks, by the name of 6l. rent in Wolveton.
Mapoudre. A moiety of the manor, held of the earl of March by knight’s service.
Hynton Martell. The manor, held of the lady of Chuweton, as of her manor of Chuweton, by knight’s service.

He held the under-mentioned manor in joint feoffment with Joan his wife, who is still living, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to his right heirs, as is more fully contained in the king’s licence.
Berton. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service, except 1 a. land called ‘Grondelsacre’ which is held of the king as an assart by service of rendering 12d. yearly at the king’s castle of Winchester.

SUSSEX. Inq. taken at Hanefeld, 9 May, 10 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned lands in Hethfeld in his demesne as of fee.
He held the under-mentioned manors of Iwhurst and Sountyngge, lands and rent in Excete, Hanefeld, Stenyngge and Brembre and advowson of Blachington jointly with Joan his wife, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to his right heirs, by gift and feoffment of William Mugge, late dean of the chapel royal of Wyndesore, William Sewale, late parson of the church of Brodemayne, and John Colman, late parson of the church of Chelbury, by the name of the manors of Iwhurst and Sountyngge and all other lands, rents and services which the said feoffees had in Hallelond and Hanefeld in the rape of Brembre, and elsewhere in the county, at a time when they were seised of all the above parcels in their demesne as of fee.
He held the under-mentioned manor of Offyngton jointly with Joan his wife, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with successive remainders to the heirs of his body and to his right heirs, by gift and feoffment of John Colman and John Beste, clerks.

The manors, with the advowson of the church of Elsyng, held of John duke of Lancaster, as of the fees of Warenne, by knight’s service, except a rent of assise of 6s. 8d. yearly issuing from divers lands &c. in Elsyng held by Robert Lamberd, William Lamberd and William Fysshlak, which the said Anne by virtue of the deed aforesaid holds of the heirs of the earl of March by knight’s service.

He held the under-mentioned manors in his demesne as of fee.
Halton and Claversworth. The manors, held of the king in chief by rendering 4l. 14d. yearly for cornage.
He died on the feast of the Invention of the Holy Cross, 6 Richard II. Eleanor Dengayne, wife of William Ferour, aged 30 years and more, is his heir.
Ever since his death William de Karnaby has had possession of the said lands &c. and received the issues thereof.

SOMERSET. Inq. taken at Ilemynstre, 22 September, 10 Richard II.
He died seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned rent.
Hybrok by Somerton. 13s. 4d. rent from a toft and 36 a. land and meadow, with the reversion of the said toft &c. after the death of John Sutton and Joan his wife and John and Richard their sons, who hold them for life. The said toft &c. are held of the king in chief by knight’s service. Since the death of the said John Mautravers, Elizabeth his wife has received the said rent.
He died on 15 June last. Maud wife of Peter de la Mare, aged 18 years, and Elizabeth, aged 8 years and more, are his daughters and heirs.

DORSET. Inq. taken at Dorchestre, Monday before the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, 10 Richard II.
He died seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned messuage.
Dorchestre. A messuage with curtilage in the lane called ‘Frerenlane’, held of the king in chief as of the fee-farm of the town. After his death Peter Blount and Thomas Heliere, bailiffs there, seized it into the king’s hands.

DORSET. Inq. taken at Wymborne Mynstre, 4 September, 10 Richard II.
He lately granted the under-mentioned tenement in Sturmynstre Mareschall to Thomas Makerell, Edith wife of the said Thomas, and John their son, for life, at a rent of 10s. yearly to him and his heirs. Afterwards he granted the said rent, with the reversion of the tenement, to John Schepton, vicar of the church of Purstoke, James Amarle and John Webbe, chaplain, and their heirs, on condition that they should re-enfeoff him and Elizabeth his wife thereof; by virtue of which grant the aforesaid life-tenants attorned to the said John Schepton, James, and John Webbe. But afterwards, on Thursday after [Hokeday], to wit, 10 May, they attorned to the said John Mautravers and Elizabeth, denying that (absque hoc quod) they attorned to any other persons at any time.
The said John Mautravers also granted the under-mentioned cottage &c. in Sturmynstre Mareschall, tenement in Great Craforde and land in Spectesbury to the under-mentioned persons for life, at the rents mentioned; and afterwards granted the said rents, with the reversion of the tenements, to the aforesaid John Schepton, James, and John Webbe, and their heirs, on condition as above. The life-tenants attorned to him and Elizabeth his wife on the said Thursday after Hokeday, and at no time to anyone else.
Sturmynstre Mareschall. A tenement.
Sturmynstre Mareschall. A cottage, granted to [the said Thomas] for life at a rent of 12d.; and a messuage and 8 a. land, granted to Richard Lichet for life at a rent of 9s.
Great Craforde. A tenement, granted to John Basket for life at a rent of 10s.
Spectesbury. A close and 8 a. land, granted to John Gouysz for life at a rent of 6s. 8d.
All the above tenements are held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Date of death and heirs as above. Since his death Elizabeth his relict has received the above-mentioned rents.

DORSET. Inq. taken at Evershit, 19 July, 11 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manors by gift and grant of William Basset and John Chaumburleyn made to him and Elizabeth his wife, who is still living, and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to Elizabeth’s right heirs, by a fine levied in the king’s court in three weeks from Easter, 44 Edward III.
Frome St. Quintin and Belle. The manors, held of the said heir by knight’s service.
He died on Monday in the first week of Lent last. Elizabeth Grey, aged 21 years and more, daughter of Robert Grey, knight, his brother, is his heir.

She held the under-mentioned third parts and advowson of Hengham in dower of the inheritance of Thomas de Morlee, knight, her son by the said William.
She held the under-mentioned manors of Aldeby and Folsham for life, of the inheritance of the same Thomas, by gift and feoffment of Anselm Marchall, knight, and John Payn, parson of the church of Swanton, made with the late king’s licence to the said William de Morley and Cecily and the heirs of William.
She held the under-mentioned manor of Reydon for life, of the inheritance of the same Thomas, by gift and feoffment of Robert de Morlee, knight, father of the aforesaid William de Morlee, knight.
Hokering. A third part of the manor (extent given, including a park and a leet held about the feast of the Purification), with a third part of the advowson of the church, held of the king in chief as parcel of the barony of la Rye, service not known.

He held the under-mentioned manor of Stokedrye and the lands in Cotesmour and Gretham in joint feoffment with Lora his wife, who is still living, in fee simple, to wit, to them and their heirs and assigns.
He also held the under-mentioned manor of Cotesmour in fee simple.
Stokedrye. The manor, and a piece of land called ‘Asshelound’ adjacent thereto, held of John bishop of Lincoln by knight’s service.
Cotesmour and Gretham. A toft and a carucate of land called ‘Bruseslond’, held of the earl of Warwick, as of his manor of Gretham, by knight’s service.

The under-mentioned rent and tenements in Snayth, Cowyk, Goldale, &c. are called a third part of the soke of Snayth. They are the same tenements and rent that John de Neuton, formerly Joan’s husband, purchased from Henry Grammary with the king’s licence (by the name of 5 messuages, 5 bovates of land, 50 a. land, 20 a. meadow, 200 a. moor and 8l. 10s. rent), to hold to him and the said Joan and William his son, and his own right heirs; except the said 50a. land, which are in Snayth, because Thomas de Metham is now in possession of that land and paid no rent for it to the said Joan during her lifetime. He and William de Wentworth formerly held that land freely, by fealty and service of rendering 41s. 8d. yearly, which rent is parcel of the aforesaid 8l. 10s. rent. Joan held the said tenements and rent for life by virtue of the above joint feoffment.
John de Neuton and the said Joan were seised of the under-mentioned messuages &c. in Cowyk, Snayth and Whiteleye, to them and the heirs of John, long before the said John acquired the above-mentioned tenements from Henry Grammary.
The said Joan also held for her life the under-mentioned messuages in Polyngton and Snayth.
Snayth, Cowyk and Goldale. 5 messuages, 5 bovates of land, 20 a. meadow and 200 a. moor in demesne.
Snayth, Cowyk, Goldale, Hethensale, Balnehek, Littelhek, Whiteley, Barlay and Burton by Birne. 7l. 2s. 4d. rent of assise, issuing from certain messuages, tofts and bovates of land in those towns held of the said Joan by certain free tenants by fealty and the service of rendering the above rent yearly. She also had a court of her tenants aforesaid every three weeks at Snayth.
The tenements and rent are held of the king in chief as parcel of the manor of Snayth, which is held of the king in chief by knight’s service, as the jurors understand.
Cowyk. 3 messuages, 2 tofts, 30 a. land, 10 a. meadow and 40 a. moor.

The last three items were held in socage of William Grammary, and afterwards of Henry Grammary, as of the above-mentioned tenements called a third part of the soke of Snayth, by fealty and service of 2d. yearly. Polyngton. A messuage and 1/2 bovate of land, held of John king of Castile and Leon, duke of Lancaster, in socage, service not known.

She died on 10 June last, and the reversion of the premises belongs to the right heirs of John de Neuton, her husband. William son of the said John died during his father’s lifetime, and John died, as the jurors understand, on the eve of St. Luke, 35 Edward III. Elizabeth wife of Thomas Daunay of Escrik, aged 38 years and more, is his daughter and heir. She and her said husband have issue, to wit, sons and daughters.
