Wodemersthorn. A toft and a carucate of land called ‘Chacumbe’, held as of the manor of Kersalton late of the said Nicholas, service not known.
Le Hoo. A messuage and a carucate of land so called, held of William Bryan, knight, as of his manor of Wodemersthorn, service not known.
Banstede. The manor.

Thomas de Stratton, parson of the church of Cotes, and William atte Churche of Great Stokton were formerly seised of the under-mentioned manor of Eton and granted it to John Dengayne, knight, for life, with remainder to John his son and Joan the latter’s wife, and the heirs of their bodies, and remainder over to the right heirs of the said John Dengayne, the father. John the son died without heir begotten between him and the said Joan. John the father had a son named Thomas and three daughters, to wit, Joyce, Elizabeth and Mary, and died seised of the above estate in the manor. After his death the said Joan occupied the manor all her life, and took to husband William Colvyll. The aforesaid Thomas son of John died seised of divers manors &c. in the county of Bedford and elsewhere without heir of himself, whereupon the said manors &c. descended to Joyce, Elizabeth and Mary as his sisters and heirs, and the reversion of the above-mentioned manor of Eton after the death of the said Joan also fell to them as such sisters and heirs. The said Joyce married John Goldyngton of Esex; and they, by a fine levied in the king’s court at Westminster in the quinzaine of Hilary, 45 Edward III (recited), and with the king’s licence, granted the reversion of the third part of the said manor which would fall to them after the death of the said Joan to John de Hemyngford, William Castelacre and Robert de Huntyngdon, who are still living, and Nicholas de Steuecle and Thomas Walton of Upwode, now deceased, and the heirs of Nicholas. So the said third part ought now to remain to the said John, William and Robert. The aforesaid Elizabeth and Mary married Laurence Pabenham, knight, and William Bernak, knight, respectively. Afterwards, a fine was levied (1) between John Goldyngton and Joyce, querents, and Elizabeth and Mary and their husbands, deforciants, whereby the deforciants acknowledged the said third part to be the right of Joyce, and (2) between Laurence Pabenham and Elizabeth, querents, and Joyce and Mary and their husbands, deforciants, whereby the deforciants acknowledged two-thirds of the manor to be the right of Elizabeth, and granted that the said two-thirds should remain to her and the said Laurence and her heirs for ever. She and Laurence had a son named Laurence. She is now dead, and the said Laurence her son, aged 17 years and more, is her next heir. So it belongs to the said Laurence the father to have the said two-thirds of the manor after the death of the said Joan, now deceased.
Eton by St. Neots. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
The said Joan died on Tuesday after St. Matthew, 14 Richard II. John Seynt Quyntyn, knight, her brother, aged 30 years and more, is her next heir.

He had in demesne on the day of his death, as of the right and inheritance of Elizabeth his wife, who is still living, daughter and heir of John de Neuton, by reason of issue begotten between them, the under-mentioned 5 messuages, 5 bovates of land, 20 a. meadow and 200 a. moor in Snayth, Cowyk and Goldale, and the under-mentioned 7l. 2s. 4d. rent of divers free tenants of his in Snayth, Cowyk, Goldale, Hethensale, Balnehek, Litilhek, Whittelay, Barlay and Burton by Birne; all which are called a third part of the soke of Snayth, and are the same tenements and rent which the said John de Neuton purchased with the king’s licence from Henry Gramary (by the name of 5 messuages, 5 bovates of land, 50 a. land, 20 a. meadow, 200 a. moor and 8l. 10s. rent), to hold to him and Joan his wife, and William his son, and his (the said John’s) heirs, except for the said 50 a. land, which are in Snayth, for these are now occupied by Thomas de Metham, knight, free of rent, and were formerly held by him and William de Wyntworth freely by fealty and service of rendering 41s. 8d. yearly, which rent is parcel of the aforesaid rent of 8l. 10s. The said John de Neuton, Joan and William are dead, William having died in his father’s lifetime; and after their death the said Thomas Daunay was seised of the premises as aforesaid. He held a court of his free tenants every three weeks at Snayth, and did the service due to the king about 3 years ago, as the jurors understand.
Long before John de Neuton made the above purchase from Henry Gramary, he and Joan his wife were seised, to them and his heirs, of the under-mentioned 3 messuages &c. in Cowyk and the messuages in Snayth and Whitley mentioned therewith; and Thomas Daunay died seised of them, as of the inheritance of the said Elizabeth, as above.
He also died seised, as of the inheritance aforesaid, of the under-mentioned messuage and 1/2 bovate of land in Polyngton and the under-mentioned messuage in Snayth.
He also died seised of the under-mentioned 3 messuages &c. and 26s. rent of assise in Carleton by Snayth, 3 messuages &c. and 16s. rent in Camylford, capital messuage &c. in Escrik and 2 a. meadow in Moreby, which he purchased jointly with the said Elizabeth his wife for the term of their life, with remainder to John Daunay and the heirs of his body. He held at Camylford every three weeks his court of his tenants of Carleton and Camylford.
He also died seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned messuage and 4 a. land in Cowyk, toft and 2 a. land &c. in Menthorp, 2 1/2 a. meadow in Northduffeld, 3 messuages and 60 a. land &c. in Carleton and Camylford by Snayth, messuage and 8 a. land in Scardeburgh, messuage, 4 bovates of land and 8 a. meadow in Huntyngton by York, and tofts and crofts &c. in the city and suburbs of York.

He held the under-mentioned manor and advowson of Stokelynch Ostriser, moiety of the manor of Chafcomb, messuages &c. in Stokelynch Maudeleyn, Shepton Beauchamp and Crukern, and rent in Crukern (estate not specified).
Long before his death he was seised of the under-mentioned four-fifths of the manor of Henton St. George, and of the under-mentioned toft &c. at Illegh, and enfeoffed thereof John Dylyngton and Elizabeth Brent, to hold to them and their heirs unconditionally. Asked whether at any time after the said feoffment he entered into the premises or any part thereof claiming freehold, the jurors say that he did not.
He held for life the under-mentioned messuage &c. in Nithedon, the reversion belonging to John Seymour of Astyngton and his heirs, as appears by a charter shewn to the jurors.
Stokelynch Ostriser. The manor, with the advowson of the church, held of the earl of Huntingdon, as of his manor of Haselbere, by service of keeping a falcon (ostrum) every year until it be of full strength for a reasonable time; and when it is of full strength he shall bring it to his lord’s court, and he and his wife, with 3 grooms, 3 horses and 3 greyhounds, shall stay there for 40 days at the expense of his lord, and he shall have for his labour his lord’s second-best robe, as well as his lady’s second-best robe for the use of his wife.

Crukern. 5 messuages and 56 a. land, and 20s. rent from a messuage and 20 a. land which John Hamelyn, Christina his wife and Isabel their daughter hold for life, with reversion to him and his heirs. Order to the sheriff of Somerset to notify John Maudeleyn, to whom (by the name of John Maudeleyn, yeoman of the king’s robes) the king by letters patent has committed the custody of a moiety of the manor of Henton St. George among other lands &c. late of John Denbaude, together with the marriage of the said John Denbaude’s heir, that he be before the king in Chancery in the three weeks from Michaelmas to shew cause why Margaret countess of Norfolk should not be restored to possession of the said custody and marriage; as the said countess has represented to the king that the said moiety is held of her, and not (as stated in the above inquisition taken at Crukern on 2 November last) of the king by knight’s service, and that the 40 a. land and meadow with watermill in Illeigh which are stated in the same inquisition to be held of the heir of John Kayl, a minor in the king’s wardship, are not held of the said heir, but of William Batecok, clerk, and John Keynes, so that the marriage of John Denbaude’s heir ought clearly to belong to her, by reason of priority, as she is prepared to shew; notwithstanding which, after being in full and peaceful possession of the custody of the said moiety for some time after John Denbaude’s death, she has been unjustly expelled therefrom without any process of law by colour of the inquisition aforesaid. 27 September, 15 Richard II.

The feoffees continued their estate in the manor all her life without enfeoffing the said William, because he did not fulfil the above condition.

John Huntercombe, knight, was seised of the under-mentioned manors and advowsons, and had issue John, Elizabeth (named in the writ) and Maud. After his death the manors and advowsons descended to John his son and heir who was afterwards seised thereof in his demesne as of fee. After the death of the said John son of John the manors and advowsons descended to John his son on account of whose minority they were seized into the king’s hands and the king assigned a third part of the manors as dower to Margaret late the wife of the said John son of John, whom Richard Mewes has taken to wife. Margaret is still living. Afterwards the said John son of John son of John died without heir of himself while a minor in the king’s wardship, and it was found by the inquisition taken after his death that the aforesaid Elizabeth was his aunt and next heir. Elizabeth sued livery of two-thirds of the manors out of the king’s hands, and died seised thereof in her demesne as of fee without heir of herself.
Burnham. The manor called ‘Huntercombes’, and the advowson of the church of Bekenesfeld.

John Huntercombe named in the writ held no lands &c. in the county in fee simple. But a certain John Huntercombe, knight, was seised of the under-mentioned manors jointly with Margaret his wife, by gift and feoffment of Henry Cogsale, knight, to hold to him and the said Margaret and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to his right heirs. The said John and Margaret had issue John and Elizabeth. After her husband’s death Margaret continued her possession of the manors a long time and died seised of them. After her death John Huntercombe, son and heir of the aforesaid John and Margaret, was seised of the manors and died so seised, whereupon the manors were seized into the king’s hands by reason of the minority of John his son and heir who has died while a minor in the king’s wardship.

In pursuance of a charter of licence by the king dated 26 August, 8 Richard II, the said Andrew, by his charter dated at Irnham, 4 September, 8 Richard II, enfeoffed Philip le Despenser, knight, the elder, and Thomas le Warr, clerk, of the under-mentioned manor of Irnham, with all the reversions of tenancies for life and terms of years (except the under-mentioned lands &c. of the fee called ‘Gousyll fee’), to hold to them, their heirs and assigns. Afterwards the said feoffees, by their charter dated at Irnham, 29 September, 8 Richard II, granted the manor &c. to the said Andrew and Hawise his wife and the heirs of Andrew; and Andrew died seised of the manor (except as above) in joint feoffment with the said Hawise, who is still living.
By his charter dated at Irnham, 6 September, 8 Richard II, the said Andrew enfeoffed Thomas le Warre, clerk, canon of Lincoln, Thomas de Kirketon, parson of the church of Irnham, Thomas Claymond of Hole, William de Botston of Hekyngton and John Rothewelle of Botheby, their heirs and assigns, of the under-mentioned lands &c. of the fee called ‘Gousill fee’. Afterwards the said feoffees, by their charter dated at Irnham, 29 September, 8 Richard II, enfeoffed him and the said Hawise thereof for life, with reversion to the feoffees and their heirs; and Andrew died seised thereof in joint feoffment with the said Hawise in form aforesaid.
By his charter dated Thursday the feast of the Holy Innocents, 37 Edward III, the said Andrew enfeoffed Thomas de Haverthorpe and Robert atte Kirke, chaplains, their heirs and assigns, of the under-mentioned lands &c. in Corby. Afterwards the said feoffees, by their charter dated Monday after St. Ambrose, 38 Edward III, enfeoffed him and the said Hawise thereof, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to his right heirs; and he died seised thereof in joint feoffment with the said Hawise in form aforesaid.
Irnham. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Irnham. All the lands, rents, services and reversions which are held of Philip le Despenser, knight, the elder, as of the fee of Gousyll, by knight’s service. The lands amount to 10 bovates.
Corby. All the lands, rents, services and reversions of the said Andrew there, held of John bishop of Lincoln, as of the castle of New Lafford, services not known. The lands amount to 6 messuages and 8 virgates.
Date of death as above. Heir as above, son of the said Andrew and Hawise.
