DEVON. Inq. taken at Exeter, 22 June, 23 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manor in his demesne as of fee.
Dupeford. The manor, held of John Car… as of his castle of Toryton, service unknown.
He died on Tuesday before Michaelmas, 7 Richard II. Thomas, aged 21 years on 1 February last, is his son and heir.
Alice wife of the said Peter and William Walssh took the issues of the manor from the time of the said Peter’s death until 17 June, 15 Richard II, when the king by his letters patent committed the custody of the manor to John Auucher, his esquire, to hold during the minority of the heir. On 16 October, 16 Richard II, the said John granted the custody to John Radyngton, who has occupied the premises ever since.

He died on 28 May, 10 Richard II. Joan, aged 19 years, and Elizabeth, aged 18 years and more, are his daughters and heirs.

He held the under-mentioned lands etc. in his demesne as of fee by a fine levied in the court of Edward III.
Belgrave. A messuage, a mill, 2 carucates of land and 24s. rent, whereof 5s. issue from the tenements that were of master John de Enderby and 2s. from the tenement that was of Robert Cornour.
Belgrave. 4 pieces of land called Cougatewong, Blakewong, Kyrkehull and Heyrigg held of the duke of Lancaster as of the honor of Leycestre and of the earl of Oxford by knight’s service, quantity unknown.

William Tuttebury of Belgrave has occupied the premises since the said John’s death.
There follows an extent of the goods of Henry Wodeford, who feloniously killed Richard Smyth at Ulsthorp on Sunday after the Invention of the Cross, 22 Richard II.

Ralph Basset of Weldon, knight, last deceased, held the under-mentioned manor to him and the heirs of his body by a fine levied at Westminster a month from Easter, 13 Edward III, before John Stonore and his fellows, justices of the Common Pleas, between Ralph Basset, knight, grandfather of the said Ralph, and Joan his wife, querents, and Roger Basset, parson of the church of Arthingworth, and Henry son of Philip Frayly, deforciants, by which the manor was granted to the said Ralph the grandfather and Joan for life with remainder to Ralph, son of the said Ralph the grandfather, and Joan daughter of Richard de la Pole, citizen of London, and the heirs male of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of Ralph the grandfather. The manor descended by virtue of the fine to Ralph last deceased, son of Ralph son of Ralph and Joan daughter of Richard.
The said Ralph last deceased held the under-mentioned meadow in his demesne as of fee.
After the death of the said Ralph last deceased the premises were taken into the king’s hands by reason of the minority of one Richard, called Richard Basset in the writ, but he was the son of Isabel Lowekyn, begotten out of wedlock by Thomas de Leke, a monk professed in the abbey of Crokesdon, Staffs, and not the son of the said Ralph last deceased or of his blood, as he pretended, and he intruded into the premises unjustly and without right.
Thorp Langeton. The manor, held of Richard Langeton by service of 6s. yearly.
Welham. 10 1/2a. meadow, held of the king as of the crown by service of a twentieth part of a knight’s fee.
The said Richard mentioned in the writ was aged 21 years on … last. He died without heir of his body on Friday after St Maur last. John Aylesbury, knight, and John Knyvet, both aged 40 years and more, are heirs of Ralph Basset last deceased, to wit, John Aylesbury [son of Joan, daughter of Ralph, father] of Ralph, father of Ralph last deceased, and John Knyvet son of Eleanor, daughter [of Ralph father of Ralph father of Ralph, father] of Ralph last deceased.

Eukesbury. The manor, with the hamlet of Lepe, in the New Forest, held of the king in chief by serjeanty, to wit, finding a man with a habergeon for 40 days in the war of Scotland.
Westuderle. Two-thirds of a third part of a messuage and of a carucate of land, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Bettesthorn. A moiety of the manor and 60a. land and 1a. meadow in Asshele, held of the heirs of John de Mynstede by service of 13s. 4d. yearly.

Arnewode. A curtilage and 40a. land formerly John Goldsmyth’s, held of the lord of Bouklond in socage.
Cryschurch Twynham. 25a. waste land and 4a. meadow, held of the earl of Salisbury in socage.
Oklee. Two-thirds of a third part of the manor, held of the prioress of Ambresbury, the prior of St Swithin’s, Winchester, the lord of Burghton and the lord of Eystuderle by divers services, but how much is held of each is unknown.

Bernard Brocas, knight, gave the under-mentioned lands in Dydeworthe Maunsell and Wynkefeld, which he had by the king’s grant, to John Chitterne, ‘chapeleyn’, Henry Holte and Arnulph Brocas and they gave them to the said Bernard and Katharine his wife and the heirs of Bernard.
She held the other under-mentioned lands in dower by the death of the said Bernard, formerly her husband.

LINCOLN. Inq. taken at Marketstaynton, Friday the feast of St Luke, 22 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned castle and manor of Tateshale and manor of Kyrkeby upon Bayne jointly with Maud his wife, who is still living, to them and the heirs of their bodies, by a fine levied in the king’s court in 41 Edward III.
He held the under-mentioned manor of Tumby and messuages and lands in Rughton, Wodehall, Wynthorp, Trusthorp, Langton by Thornton, Sutton by Markeby and Maltby by Strubby, to hold to the said Ralph and Maud and the heirs of Maud by a fine levied in the king’s court in 38 Edward III.
He held the under-mentioned manors of Dryby and Brynkyl and land in Saltfletby jointly with the said Maud for life, with remainder to Robert their son and the heirs male of his body, by charter indented of the grant of Richard de Ravenser, late archdeacon of Lincoln, William de Skypwyth, knight, and others dated 1 December, 50 Edward III. He held the under-mentioned tenement.
St Martin in Bowyer Rowe by Ludgate. A tenement between the tenement of the Friars Preachers in which … Coton, ‘bowyere’, lives on the west, the tenement of Nicholas Spenser on the east, abutting on Ludgatestrete on the north and the tenement of the said Friars Preachers on the south, held of the king in free burgage, as is the whole city.
He died on 15 April, 5 Edward III. William Leek, aged 50 years and more, is his heir.
Agnes wife of the said Henry entered after his death and occupied by virtue of the will of the said Henry, after whose death Nicholas Myle and Ellen his wife entered and likewise occupied; after Ellen’s death the said Nicholas occupied the tenement all his life without title, after whose death Nicholas Henxtworth occupied the tenement all his life by intrusion, after whose death Joan his wife entered by intrusion and married Clement Lavendere, which Clement and Joan occupied during the life of the said Joan. After the said Joan’s death John Henxtworth entered as son and heir of the said Joan and took the issues until Michaelmas last past, since when the said William Leek has taken them with the said John Henxtworth’s assent.

A messuage called Melbroke, 110a. land, 11a. meadow and rents of 10s., a hen and 5 eggs, held of John de Frenyngham by fealty, suit of court to his manor of Soundresche every three weeks, a rent of 21s. yearly, 5s. for divers customs at Michaelmas, 2d. for ‘medmen’, 2d. for ‘dungmen’ and 8d. for ‘rypmen’, as appears by the rental of the said John de Frenyngham.
Chydynggystone. 30a. land called Elderyste, held of lord de Say by fealty and suit of court every three weeks to his manor of Codham, service of … 8d. yearly and other services unknown.
Chydynggystone. A messuage with a garden called Mellebourne, a water-mill, 29 1/2a. land, 6 1/2a. meadow and 3s. 10d. rent, which at the time of the said John’s acquiring them were held of his manor of Huntyngton in ‘gavilkendes’. They are charged with 6d. yearly to the king at the sheriff’s tourns.
Chydynggystone. 22a. land and 4a. wood, held of Reynold de Cobeham, knight, by fealty and suit of court every three weeks to his manor of Tegheherst and by service of a yearly rent of 3d. for 2a. and to his manor of Chyddynggystone Cobeham and by service of a yearly rent of 4s. 8d. for the rest.
Chydynggystone. 9a. land and 40a. pasture, held of Elizabeth lady le Spenser by fealty and suit of court every three weeks, for the 9a. land at the court of her manor of Chyddynggyston Bourghesch by service of 8d. yearly, and for the 40a. pasture called Yatyndon at the court of her manor of Henden by service of 3s. 6d. yearly.
Hevere.
