He held the manor of Weston for life by the grant of Thomas duke of Norfolk, with reversion to the duke and his heirs.
He died on 26 Dec. 1407. Since his death 2 parts have been held by the king owing to the minority of the duke’s heir, and the third part by Elizabeth duchess of Norfolk in dower. It is not held of the king, but of whom and by what service is unknown; annual value of 2 parts £6 13s.4d. John the duke’s son and heir is aged 19 years and more.

He died on 26 dec. 1407. Nicholas Ledewyche took the profits from his death until 30 Sept. 1409, title unknown. Since then John de Moubray, Earl Marshal, in the king’s ward, has taken them by the king’s grant. He was aged 20 years on 10 Aug. last.

He held 2 parts of the manor of Kirkby Malzeard by the grant of Thomas late duke of Norfolk, with reversion to the duke and his heirs. Of whom the manor is held and by what services is unknown; annual value of the 2 parts £10.
He died on 26 Dec. 1407. Queen Joan has taken the issues since his death, title unknown. John Mowbray, Earl Marshal, in the king’s ward, is son and heir of the duke, aged 20 years on 10 Aug. last.

She held the manor of Lockerley in her demesne as of fee of the king in socage by a rent of 9 marks, annual value beyond that 40s.
She died on 14 April last. Richard Dalyngregge is her kinsman and heir, being the son of Walter her brother, and aged 16 years and more.

She held 1 carucate, 40 a. meadow, 60 a. pasture and 40 a. wood in Washingley in her demesne as of fee of the king in chief, partly assart by a rent to the king of 20s., the rest by the service of a fortieth part of a knight’s fee, and if by other services is unknown.
She married John Pekbrigge, knight, and had a son John. Then she married Robert Kervyle and had a son Robert.
She died on 31 July 1400. John Pekbrigge, her son and heir, was aged 21 years on 2 Feb. last. Who has held the premises since her death is unknown.

He held 2 parts of the manor of West Hatch for life by the grant of Thomas Moubray, duke of Norfolk, with reversion to the duke and his heirs. With the third part, which the duchess of Norfolk holds in dower, they are held of the abbess of Shaftesbury in fee farm by £6 payable by equal parts at the four terms, and suit at the court of the abbess every 3 weeks; annual value of the two parts 8 marks, comprising assize rents 20s. payable at the 4 terms by equal parts, 1 carucate 30s., 6 a. meadow at 20d. and 40 a. several pasture at 14d.
He died on 10 Nov. last. His heir is unknown. John Moubray, Earl Marshal, in the king’s ward, is the duke’s heir, aged 20 years on 10 Aug. last.

She held the manor of Staveley for life of the king in chief by the service of a twentieth part of a knight’s fee, with reversion to John son and heir of Thomas de Clifford, knight, annual value 100s.
She died on 24 Oct. 1393. John de Clyfford is heir, aged 21 years and more. Since her death William Roos, knight, has held and taken the profits by grant of Richard II [CPR 1391–6, p.535].

LEICESTER. Inquisition. Market Harborough. 10 March.
Jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives him, he held the manors of Norton, Foxton, Smeeton Westerby, Gumley and Church Langton, with the advowson of Langton at alternate vacancies, for the term of their lives by the grant of John Stotusbury and Thomas Wakeleyn, both now deceased, and Henry Slayer and William Leek. Norton is held of the earl of Warwick, service unknown, annual value 7s., the rest of William de Asteley by knight service, annual value £9.
He died on 31 Jan. last. John Gryffyn is his kinsman and heir, being the son of Richard, son of Elizabeth his sister, and aged 30 years and more.

Jointly with Margaret his wife he held the manor, hundred and advowson of Chipping Warden by the grant of John Stotusbury of Sulgrave, Thomas Wakelyn of Trafford, Henry Sclayer, parson of Chipping Warden, and William Leek by their charter dated 28 Jan. 1407 and shown to the jurors, to them and his heirs and assigns, by royal licence [CPR 1405–8, p.165]. They held of the king in chief by knight service; annual value 100 marks.
Also jointly with Margaret for the term of their lives he held the castle, manor and advowson of Braybrooke, annual value 40 marks, the manor of Rothwell called ‘Latymersfe’, annual value 10 marks, a rent of £4 from Watford payable by the prior of Daventry by equal parts at Easter and Michaelmas, half the manor of Little Bowden, annual value 20s., a rent of 20s. from John Dytton for his lands and tenements in Upton, a third part of the manors of Desborough and Rushton, annual value 13s.4d., a third part of the manor of Carlton, annual value 10s., a quarter of the manor of Great Weldon, annual value 10s., and 3 a. of fallow land in Dingley with a little wood called ‘Lowghlond’, annual value 2s.; all by the grant of the same John Stotusbury, Thomas, Henry and William, by another charter dated 8 June 1406, shown to the jurors, describing the premises as all their castles, manors, advowsons, rents, services and reversions in the county except the manor of Chipping Warden and a third part of the manor of Desborough called Burdon’s Hall with the reversion of the other two parts.
Braybrooke, Rothwell and the half, third parts and quarter of the above manors, and the lands, woods and rents are not held of the king but of whom is unknown.

KENT. Inquisition. Larkfield. 9 Feb.
He held the manor of West Barming in his demesne as of fee of the king in chief with the advowson by the service of three parts of a knight’s fee. There are the site, annual value nil, 110 a. arable at 6d., 18 a. pasture at 4d., 100 a. wood of which 5 a. may be cut each year, then worth 10s. an a., rents of 19s.5d., 14 hens at 2d., 110 eggs at 5d. the 100, and 3 1/2 ploughshares at 12d., namely at Michaelmas 10s.2d. with the ploughshares, at Christmas 12d. with the hens, at Lady Day 8s.1d., at Easter the eggs and at Midsummer 2d.
He died on 22 Dec. last. Roger Isle is the next heir, being the son of John, son of Joan, sister of John, father of Ralph, knight, father of John de Frenyngham, and aged 30 years and more.

He held the manors of Great Durnford and Little Durnford in his demesne as of fee and long before his death granted them to Thomas Peyvere, esquire, John Olneye, Roger Keston, William Halle and Richard Freman, clerk. They are held of the earl of Salisbury, annual values £20 and £12.
He died on 24 Oct. last. Thomas his son and heir is aged 21 years and more.

BEDFORD. Inquisition. Shefford. 21 Nov.
He held nothing in Bedfordshire.
He held the manors of Odell and Langford in his demesne as of fee long before his death. On 30 Oct. 1408 before Richard Whityngton, then mayor of the staple of the city of London, and William Andrew, clerk of debts in the same, he acknowledged owing Thomas Pever, William Halle and John Hals £800 to be paid on a fixed day. It was not so paid. They sued for it under the statute of the staple. The manors were extended at £40 before Baldwin Pygot, sheriff, in accordance with the king’s writ, and on 16 Dec. 1408 they were delivered to them to hold until £360 with the losses and expenses incurred was fully paid. So they held them, Odell of the king in chief of the castle of Rockingham, annual value £10, and Langford of the king in chief as one knight’s fee, annual value 45 marks.

Long before his death he held the manor of Pattishall. He acknowledged his debt as above [no.813]. The manor was extended at 26 marks, 6s.8d. before Ralph Perles, sheriff. It was delivered with the Bedfordshire manors to hold until £73 6s.8d. was fully paid. So Thomas Peyver and the others held it of the king in chief as one knight’s fee, annual value 26 marks 6s.8d.

He held in fee tail 1 tenement, 180 a. arable, 12 a. meadow and 10 a. wood in Epping of the abbot and convent of Waltham Holy Cross by a rent of 12s.4d., annual value £4 3s.4d., and similarly there 1 a. arable of the prior of St. John of Jerusalem in England by a rent of 4d.
He died on 10 April 1400. John his son and heir is aged 21 years and more. John Merssh, esquire, has held and taken the profits by virtue of letters patent [CPR 1399–1401, p.261].

LINCOLN. Inquisition. Spital in the Street. 21 Sept.
By the grant of Thomas de Moubray, Earl Marshal, he held the manor of Wroot for life of the abbey of St. Mary, York, by a rent of 14s., annual value 66s.8d.
He died on 2 July 1409, heir unknown. Queen Joan has held since his death by letters patent of 2 parts of the manor of Epworth of which Wroot has been parcel from time immemorial.
The duke of Norfolk died on 22 Sept. 1399; from him the right to the reversion descended to Thomas Moubray and so to John who was aged 21 on 10 Aug. last.

By a fine of 1387 [CP 25(1)/289/55, no.160] Richard Nasshe and Hugh Haresfeld granted to John Bremwich, knight, and Katherine his wife the manors of Credenhill and Eaton Tregose with the advowson of the chapel of Eaton Tregose in Herefordshire and the manor and advowson of Broomsberrow in Gloucestershire to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies. John Bremwich died and Katherine survived him holding the manors. She then married Hugh de Waterton and still holds.

The two parts comprise 16 a. arable at 4d., 5 1/2 a. meadow at 20d., 61 a. pasture at 2d., 34 a. wood of which none can be cut in season in the next 5 years then 3 a. yearly at 3s.4d. the a., £6 6s.8d. in assize rents, payable 36s.8d. at Michaelmas and 30s. at each of Christmas, Easter and Midsummer, and two parts of the perquisites of court 2s.
He died on 2 Nov. last. His heir is unknown. John Moubray, Earl Marshal, aged 20 years on 10 Aug. last, is the heir of the duke of Norfolk.

He held the manor called Lady Hall in Moreton for life by the grant of Thomas duke of Norfolk with reversion to the heirs of the duke. It is held of the king, service unknown, annual value £8.
He died on 20 Oct. 1400. His next heir is unknown. John Bourgh, esquire, held it until 4 June 1405, title unknown, and then owing to the minority the king had the profits until the following Christmas. Nicholas Alderwych has held since then, title unknown. Thomas de Moubray died on 22 Sept. 1399 and Thomas his son on 4 March 1405, so that the right is now to John de Moubray, in the king’s ward.

CAMBRIDGE. Inquisition. Babraham. 7 May 1411.
He held in his demesne as of fee ‘Fraunceys’ manor in Wimpole of the king by knight service of his manor of Sutton in Bedfordshire, annual value 10 marks, and the manor of Arrington of the earl of March, a minor in the king’s ward, annual value £10. He granted them by charter to Geoffrey Broun and John Hunte and their heirs on condition that they fulfilled his will. Afterwards about 1 Aug. 1409 he required them to enfeoff William Rokesburgh, John Shadworth and others and take the profits until Elizabeth his daughter reached 14 years of age and then enfeoff her and her heirs. So Rokesburgh and Shadworth held them.
Long before, when he held in his demesne as of fee, he granted 20 a., parcel of ‘Fraunceys’ manor, to Henry Jepe to hold to himself and his assigns at farm for 10 years from Michaelmas 1405 at 10s., annual value 10s.
He died on 8 Oct. last. Elizabeth his heir is aged 6 years and more.

They are held of the heir of Thomas le Despenser, a minor in the king’s ward, of the manor of Tewkesbury, service unknown, annual value 20 marks.
He died on 10 June last. Thomas his son and heir is aged 7 years and more.
834 CLARICE DAUGHTER AND HEIR OF MARIOT BROUNKER

DEVON. Inquisition. Exeter. 10 June.
Clarice, daughter and heir of Mariot Brounker alias Bounker one sister and heir of William Ram, held half a messuage and 1 ferling in Dean Prior in her demesne as of fee on 12 Oct. 1387. She was an idiot from birth. Several years before her death she dowered Margery, sometime wife of William Ram brother of Mariot her mother with a third part of half, which half William had held during his marriage. Owing to her idiocy it was taken into the king’s hands and so remains. It is held of the prior and convent of Plympton St. Mary in right of St. Mary’s church there as a fortieth part of a knight’s fee, annual value 18d.
Margery died on 29 April 1405 and Clarice on 4 April 1406. William Tolchet, son of Margery, sister of Mariot, is the next heir of Clarice and aged 60 years and more.

By the grant of Lawrence de Welles, formerly vicar of Offley, to Ellis Dokesworth, her former husband, and herself for the term of their lives with remainder to William their son, the heirs of his body and the right heirs of Ellis, she held 1 toft, 60 a. arable, 3 a. meadow, 4 a. pasture and rents of 21s.7 1/2d. and 2 lb. cumin in King’s Walden of the king by the service of half a knight’s fee, annual value 41s.2 1/2d., and 1 messuage, 2 tofts, 240 a., 12 a. wood and 20s.7 1/2d. rent in the same place of Reynold Cobham, service unknown, annual value 4 marks 12s.2 1/2d.; in all 8 marks.
William and Ellis died without heirs of their bodies. She died without heirs on 20 July last. Joan wife of William Beauchamp, sister of Ellis, is next heir and aged 50 years and more.

Long before his death he granted by charter to Richard Waldegrave and William Berdewell, knights, Thomas Lopham, Richard Mauncell, clerk, and Robert Cavendysshe the manor of Preston called Mortimers and the manor of Netherhall in Otley, and 88 a. arable, 4 1/2 a. meadow, 16 a. pasture and 4 a. wood in Barham, Claydon, Hinderclay and Thelnetham. Peter son of John de Monte Forti held in his demesne as of fee various lands, tenements, rents and services in Henley in Arden, Ullenhall and Wootton Wawen, namely 1 messuage, 1 a. arable, 2 a. meadow, 10 a. wood and 12 1/2d. rent in Forwood in the territory of Wootton Wawen, 16 a. arable in ‘Bockeleyfeld’, 6 selions in ‘Brodefeld’, 40 a. meadow and 8 a. wood in the little close of the park on this side of the stream, 1/2 a. meadow called ‘Margaretmedewe’ of the fee of the barony of Stafford in the same territory, 30 a. arable and 1 a. meadow in the field called ‘le Hyde’, 12 a. arable in the field called Nutlands in the territory of Ullenhall, 1 messuage called Park Meadow, 3 watermills and 300 a. wood in the great park, £10 5s.1/2d. rent from the burgess tenants of Henley in Arden with the lordship and services of all the tenants of the borough, tolls and all other liberties, and a quarter of a knight’s fee in Brailes.
By his charter dated at Whitchurch in Warwickshire on 14 May 1326 Peter granted all the premises to John de Lobbenham, chaplain, his heirs and assigns, and warranted them to him. Lobbenham held them in his demesne as of fee in virtue of this enfeoffment and the attornment of the tenants. By a fine of October 1326 [CP 25(1)/246/47, no.32] he regranted them to Peter and the heirs of his body, with remainder to John son of Lora de Ulnhale and the heirs of his body. This grant was exemplified by letters patent of Richard II.
Similarly Peter held 80 a. wood and 25s. rent in Studley and by a charter dated at Studley on 30 Nov. 1325 granted them to Thomas de Ilmynstre, clerk, his heirs and assigns, and he by a fine of January 1326 [CP 25(1)/246/47, no.18] granted them back to Peter and the heirs of his body with similar remainder. Peter died without heirs of his body.
William de Bello Campo intruded upon all these premises, and Baldwin Mountfort, knight, as son and heir of John son of Lora entered in virtue of the fine, but was several times disseised by William. He died whilst William was still alive, and the right to the premises then descended to William Mountfort of Coleshill, his son and heir, then a minor. He claimed the premises and an agreement was reached by which William de Bello Campo held them for his life. After his death William Mountfort entered and occupied them, and still does so. All except the wood and rent in Studley are held of Anne countess of Stafford, service unknown. The wood and rent are held of William Corbyson, service unknown, annual value of the pasture in the wood 6s.8d. These premises are a whole on their own and not parcel of the manor of Beaudesert or any other manor. There is a stream by Beaudesert church which separates the lordships of Beaudesert and Henley in Arden. Henley is a borough with a market on Mondays and view of frankpledge twice yearly. Annual values, tolls of the market 20s., view of frankpledge 13s.4d., pasture in the park beyond the sustenance of the game 40s., other lands and tenements apart from Studley £10, and the quarter fee in Brailes nothing this year because the tenants are living, but when it occurs 40s. To all the above premises William Mountfort, now aged 28 years and more is heir in virtue of the fines, being the son of Baldwin, son of John, son of Lora de Ulnhale.
William de Bello Campo held the castle and manor of Beaudesert for life in virtue of a fine of 1394 [CP 25(1)/248/66, no.12]. By this Thomas Botiller of Sudeley, knight, and Baldwin Frevyle recognised the right of Thomas de Bello Campo, earl of Warwick, and he granted the reversion of the manor, which William de Bello Campo held for life, half to Thomas and the heirs of his body by rent of a rose, and failing them to Baldwin and the heirs of his body, and the other half to Baldwin and the heirs of his body, and failing them to Thomas Botiller and the heirs of his body, with reversion to the earl. The heirs are now William Botiller of Sudeley, brother of John son and heir of Thomas, aged 23 years and more, and Baldwin son of Baldwin Frevile, knight, a minor in the king’s ward, aged 17 years and more. The manor extends in the vills and hamlets of Beaudesert, Hazelwood, Whitley, Forewood and Wike. It is held of the earl of Warwick, service unknown, annual value 40 marks.

He held the manor of Feckenham for life without rent by the grant of Henry IV, and the keeping of the forest of Feckenham by the grant of Richard II [CPR 1377–81, p.63; 1399–1401, p.118] with reversion of both to Humphrey the king’s son by the king’s grant of 22 Feb. 1410 [CPR 1408–13, p.164]. They are ancient demesne of the crown and worth £30 yearly beyond the wages of the parker, forester and other officers.
