He died on Wednesday after the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary last. Margaret his sister, of the same father and mother, aged 30, is his next heir, and was married to Andrew de Smytheton, sixteen years ago.

The hamlet (extent given) held of the earl of Gloucester of the honour of Clare for 1/4 knight’s fee. William de Jarpunvyle renders yearly 40s. at the aforesaid manor, which rent Sir Richard son of John gave to Bartholomew de Wedon for life. Clayndon [alias Cleydon]. The manor (extent given), including a wood within the precincts of the forest of Bernewode, held of the king in chief by service of 1/2 knight’s fee. Ayllesbury [alias Aylesbury]. The manor with the hamlet of Burton (extents given), including 237a. meadow on the wold (super Waldam), which can be mown in a wet summer but not in a dry, held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee, and a fee farm of 60l. at the exchequer. Querdon [alias Querndon]. The manor (extent given), including a wood within the precinct of the forest of Bernewode and within the regard, and a rent of 16s. 6d. at Beldyngore, held of the earl of Hereford by service of 1/2 knight’s fee. Agmundesham [alias Agmodesham] manor. A messuage, 180a. arable, … meadow, 3s. 10d. yearly rents, 2s. 6d. pleas &c. and … held of the earl of H[ereford by service of . .] 3s. 6d. yearly. Sir Philip de Verney holds 10 marks yearly rent in the said manor … for life. Heirs as last above.

LANCASTER.	Inq. made at Preston in Aghmondernesse on Friday after the octave of the Purification, 26 Edw. I.
	Wytheton. One Theobald le Botiller, who held the manor of Wytheton of Sir Edmund the king’s brother by service of 1/2 knight’s fee and by service of 5s. yearly to the same Edmund, was bound to Richard son of John in 560 marks; and because he had not the money wherewith to pay this sum, he delivered the manor to Richard son of John to hold until the latter should have levied the money, or until the said Theobald or his heirs should have fully paid the same. Nicholas de Marisco bailiff of the said Theobald delivered seisin of the manor to Adam de Balderton attorney of the said Richard at the feast of St. Michael, 22 Edw. I; and the said Richard died seised of the manor in form aforesaid; he held nothing of any other in the county. Heirs as last above, each aged 24 and more.

Similar extent with the addition of the manor of Shoppele, co. Southampton, to be divided into four equal parts and the fourth part to be divided into two. To Maud countess of Warwick are assigned the manors of Chiriel co. Wilts, and Potterespyry co. Northampton, except (preter) 10l. 15s. 10 3/4d. of land and rent in the same manor. 	[Lasham.] A carucate of land containing 120a., a capital messuage &c., 40a. wood and pasture in the forest of Wyndelsor, assised rents of free tenants (named) and rents of 6 customers, held by the prior of Portsmouth (de Porta Muta) by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, doing the foreign services when they shall happen. Lasham. A carucate of land containing 120a., a capital messuage &c., 40a. wood and pasture in the forest of Wyndelsor, assised rents of free tenants (named), and rents of customers, held by John Dabernon by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, doing the foreign services when they shall happen.

YORK.	Inq. Thursday after the Purification, 27 Edw. I.
	Skelbrok by le Sailes. A capital messuage, an alder grove, 102a. arable, 4 bovates of land each containing 12a., a windmill and tenants (named), held by Edmund le Butiller by homage and a sparrowhawk (nisum) yearly of the said Richard son of John, who held of the earl of Lancaster by homage and suit at his court of Pontefract. Endorsed: Memorandum that with the consent of the parties a day is given a month after Easter for the assignment of dower to Emma late the wife of Richard son of John.
	Writ to the escheator to warn the co-heirs of the said Richard to be present in the chancery, if they think fit, on Sunday in Mid Lent next, the day appointed for the aforesaid Emma to receiver her dower according to the extent made by the escheator, 3 Feb. 27 Edw. I.

SUSSEX.	[Benefeld.] 1 knight’s fee held by Henry de Benefeld; and 1 knight’s fee held by John Weps. Pippesty. 1/4 knight’s fee. Adelworthe. 1/2 fee held by the prior of Lewes.

BUCKINGHAM.	Bottecleydon. The reversion of 1/5 knight’s fee after the death of the aforesaid Emma. Memorandum of advowsons of churches which the aforesaid Emma holds in dower. To the countess of Warwick, Robert de Clifford and Idonea de Leyburn is assigned (the reversion of) the church of Granele, co. Surrey, so that the countess shall present first and Robert and Idonea have the second presentation. To the earl of Ulster is assigned the reversion of the advowson of the church of Wedbyry, co. Wilts, which the aforesaid Emma holds in dower of the aforesaid inheritance. To Joan la Botillere is assigned the reversion of the advowson of the church of Attefeld, which the same Emma holds in dower. Of the lands in Ireland which contain 40 townships, 13 1/3 townships of land are assigned to Emma late the wife of Richard son of John in dower, leaving 26 townships and two parts of a township, and so 6 townships and a half, and a fourth part of two parts of a township, are assigned to each heir. 	Writ to the escheator, whereas according to the partition, made in chancery with the assent of the heirs of the inheritance of Richard son of John, the king has assigned to Maud de Bello Campo, countess of Warwick, eldest sister and heir of the said Richard the manor of Chiryell &c. and of the lands held in dower by Emma late the wife of the said Richard the manor of Querndon, co. Buckingham, and 59s. 10d. land and rent in the manor of Aylesbury, co. Buckingham, after the death of the said Emma, the said escheator is commanded &c. Westminster, 26 Oct. 27 Edw. I.
