HERTFORD. Inq. made at Herpesfeld on Monday the feast of St. Edmund the Archbishop, 32 Edw. I, ending.
Mendlisdene. 160a. arable and 13s. 4d. rent of free tenants, held of Roger Lestrange (Extranio), by reason of the manor of Hicche which the said Roger holds for life of the king’s gift, which manor is of the barony of John de Bailolf sometime king of Scotland, in free socage by service of 2s. yearly.
Almesho. The manor (extent given) held, together with its members, of Robert son of Walter by service of 1/2 knight’s fee.
Langele by Almesho. 180a. land, 4a. meadow, 4a. wood, profits of court, and 40s. rent of freemen, held of Robert de la Mare for 1/6 knight’s fee, and there are rendered 50s. yearly to Lucy de la Mare for her dower, and 60s. for life to Henry de la Chaumbre.
Benyggeho. A tenement held of John Engayn in free socage by service of 10s. yearly, and a tenement held of the prior of Beremondeseye by service of 3s. yearly viz.—a messuage &c. 200a. land, 40a. meadow, 6a. pasture, 40s. rent of freemen, and 10 customers.
Thefbrigge. A messuage &c. 120a. land, 4a. meadow, and 40s. rent of freemen, held of the nuns of Sopwelle in free socage by service of 32s. yearly, and rendering to the abbot of St. Albans 3s. 4d. for sheriff’s aid.
Bishop’s Hatfeld manor. A messuage &c. 160a. land, 6a. meadow, 100a. great wood, 53s. 4d. rent of freemen, and 13s. 4d., 28 hens, and 15 capons rents of customers, held of the bishop of Ely by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and doing suit every three weeks at the bishop’s court in Hatfeld; a water-mill, 40s. rent of free tenants, and 4a. wood, held of the said bishop in free socage by service of 16s.; and 20a. arable held of Geoffrey le Heyroun by knight’s service viz.—rendering him 20d. for scutage when it runs, and 12d. yearly.
Titeberst. 16s. yearly rent held of Robert Saleman by service of 1/2d. yearly.
Edward his son, aged 6, is his next heir.
ESSEX. Inq. Monday after St. Leonard, 32 Edw. I.
Stanbregg. The manor (extent given) held with Petronilla his wife, of her inheritance, of the king, as of the barony of Reylegh, by service of doing suit every three weeks at the court of Reylegh. He held nothing of the king in chief alone in the county.
The said Petronilla can make whomsoever she will her heir of the said manor.

DORSET. Inq. made at Dorcestre, 16 Nov., 32 Edw. I.
Thornhulle. A messuage and 1/3 virgate of land, held of the king in chief by fee farm, rendering 4s. 6d. yearly at the king’s exchequer by the hands of the sheriff; and 40a. arable held jointly with Alice his wife of Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, in socage rendering 13s. 4d. yearly.
Leghe. A moiety of a messuage and of a virgate of land, held jointly as above of Roger Quentyn for 1/16 knight’s fee, rendering 2s. 6d. yearly; and the other moiety similarly held of Geoffrey Pusers in socage, rendering 1/2lb. cummin yearly.
Hamne Preston. 20a. arable and 2a. meadow, similarly held of Robert de Lucy in socage, rendering yearly 10s. and 1lb. pepper.
And the said Hugh and Alice render 4l. 6s. 8d. yearly for the tenements in Leghe and Hamme Preston to one Alice de Enham for her life.
Pimperne. A messuage and a hide of land, held by the said Hugh of the abbess &c. of Schefton for 1/8 knight’s fee; which land &c. he demised to Maud his mother for her life.
Bradeford Brian. 10 marks yearly rent held of William de Echyngham and Eva his wife by service of a rose yearly; which 10 marks, excepting 4d., he demised to Maud his mother for her life.
Up Wymborn. A messuage and a hide of land, held of the abbess &c. of Fontevrault (Fontis Eborardi) in socage, rendering 1/2 mark yearly; and 48a. pasture and heath held of John de Plessetis in socage by service of 1lb. cummin yearly rent.
Knolton. 34a. land and heath, held of Giles de Breouse in socage, rendering 20d. yearly.
Schapewyk. A messuage, 50a. land and 1a. meadow, which Laurence Albe (?) held of the said Hugh for life, held of Peter de Chaumpayne by service of suit at his court every three weeks; and a rose of rent to be received from Nicholas de Richemound.
His daughters, Maud aged 3 years, Joan aged 1 year, and Cutburga aged 11 weeks on the feast of St. Bartholomew last, are his next heirs.

Retherwas. A messuage, 1 carucate of land, 1a. meadow, and rents of 37s. 9d. from 25 free tenants and 19s. 4d. from 6 customers, 12 hens, 4d. rent of bread, and pleas of court, similarly held, by the enfeoffment of Richard de Welles, of Joan de Bagginden by service of 13s. 4d. yearly.
Cobwall. A messuage &c. 1 carucate of land, 1a. meadow, 1a. wood, rent of 28s. 2d. from 19 free tenants, and pleas of court, similarly held, by the enfeoffment of Master Henry de Bray, of William de Criketot by service of 1/8 knight’s fee.
Deuschirche. A messuage &c. 1 carucate of land, 6a. wood, 2a. meadow, 15s. 1 1/2d. rents of 9 free tenants and 6 customers, and pleas of court, similarly held, by the enfeoffment of Roger le Waleys, of the abbot of Gloucester by service of 6s. yearly.
Rolveston. A messuage &c. and a carucate of land, similarly held, by the enfeoffment of Hugh de Kynardesleye, of Alan Plokenet by service of 12d. yearly.
Lude Muchegros. A messuage and a virgate of land, similarly held, by the enfeoffment of Nicholas de Monemuta, of Theobald de Verdun and Geoffrey de Genevile by service of 1/24 knight’s fee.
Holemare. 60a. land similarly held, by the enfeoffment of Ralph de la Burcote, of William de Arundel and Philip de Holemare by service of 6s. yearly.

The said Walter and Sibyl continued their seisin of all the above until the said Walter’s death.

Heyton. 6l. 12s. 7 1/2d. assised rent of free tenants (named) and villeins who also owe a custom at the feast of St. Andrew called ‘gult’ worth 1/2 mark, and pleas &c. of court, held of Roger son of Edmund de Mortuo Mary by service of 1/4 knight’s fee.
